timmy's poetry - 2. Christmas Reason

Enjoy Christmas or the Holidays, but remember others.

Christmas Reason

As Christmas time draws closer

There are not enough hours in the day

We fret about what to buy

Then use credit cards to pay

We fight with crowds to get that gift

The receiver will like for an hour

Until the next thing comes along

And on the first they’ve gone sour

We struggle to find Noel’s context

If we don’t believe there’s a God

There is meaning all around us now

Overlook the jaded you, let yourself be awed

Life on Earth is the Season’s miracle

Though at Christmas most are asleep

Waiting till winter’s harshness goes

Then we’ll listen for springtime’s peep

Reach out your hand, give a small gift

Love and kindness are miracles too

Share a warm drink, or a sandwich

See what selflessness does for you

But no matter what you believe in

You don’t have to have a reason

To love and share your special gifts

And enjoy this Christmas Season

Happy Holidays!

I get to be first! Your appeal in this poem to reach out and give of ourselves touches me deeply. You are absolutely correct: it is in such acts that Christmas miracles, such as they are, are made. I will be trying to make such acts a reality this week. Thank you.

Yes Parker you're first .. candy cane for you! You do nice things all the time .. and don't argue with me, you do. Thanks for reading .. xo

I agree with you that presents aren't the be all and end all of the season, no matter what the commercials tell you. One of the best forms of Christmas spirit I've seen is giving something of yourself in some way. I heard of a Boston Pizza in southern Ontario who are putting on a free Christmas meal for people without family, or who wouldnt get a hot meal otherwise. It probably won't affect their bottom line very much, but it could mean so much for their guests. Thank you for this tim

Oh that's nice about BP. Been watch a cool series of shows called, The Big Food Rescue .. about food waste and rescuing food. If there is sin .. then wasting food is a massive one.. You can look up the Felix Project online. We have lots of charities here but this story is an interesting one. xox

Yeah, some receivers of gifts may not like the gift, but it's the thought that counts, because friendship and love last forever! I love this poem.

Thanks Ashi! You're right, friendship and love are the most important things! And the cost means nothing, you thought of me, when you made that, or picked up that gift...that's what matters! Thanks for your comments my friend!

Loved the poem, Tim! :)

I love the Christmas spirit even though I don't celebrate the holiday. The materialism of it has gotten ridiculous, and you are spot on about trying to find the perfect gift for someone, when in an hour they'll be tired of it!

Giving something of yourself is always the best gift. :)

Merry Xmas, Tim, and Happy New Year!!!

Thanks Lisa ... maybe the Christmas spirit is really just the human one? Maybe this time of year is when we free it? But there are lots who live it everyday of the year, and it has little to do with religion. Thanks for reading...Happy Holidays xoxo
