timmy's poetry - 68. Seasonal Ramble

I suppose this is a poem, kinda. More of a poetic blog?

Christmas lights of red and green twinkle and shine

Illuminating rooms and roofs

Snowmen wear last year’s scarves and fresh carrots

Hearts are glad and houses warm; welcoming family home

Sadness is an unwelcome visitor

When loved ones are gone

Or if we are alone

Melancholy settles into our bones

But Christmas is a time to remember

To keep alive love and traditions

The ones we love are always with us

Alive in our hearts and memory

And though gone now eighteen years

My mother remains alive in me

In my writing, in my smile and my heart

I celebrate the time I had with her

So embrace the sad, but welcome some joy

Helps others, and in so doing, help yourself

Start a new tradition; find the Spirit that lives within

Your smile is a contagious gift

*************************************************

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays but mostly i wish each of you peace, love and harmony.

Merry Christmas, tim. An excellent poetic blog of the duality of the Holidays. I love the last verse.

I lost my mom 12 years ago at the beginning of the holiday prep season. She was my shopping partner, my cooking partner, and overall partner in crime. I miss her every single day but mostly in the month before Christmas.

Keep your mom in your heart and she'll never be gone.

May you and Mike, and your extended family have a loving and peaceful holiday.
