timmy's poetry - 8. Dogs

To all our dogs who have passed from this life but not our hearts.

For Leppy, Mallory, Bella, Ripley and to those I don’t know ..

Dogs

They fill your life completely

You think they’ll never go

But all too soon it’s their time

It’s all just part of life’s flow

And now your heart is broken

the silence is deafening

you’re sure she’s up on the bed

When you reach, there’s not a thing

Many suffer at our hand

But still they love and forgive

Pure of heart; they are faithful

And with us they choose to live

We each still miss them every single day

In our hearts they’ll forever reside

Laughter and tears they brought; along with joy

In other words, dogs are love - simplified

Thanks for reading.

Emotional... made me think of those canine friends who spent their lives next to me, Rex, Oscar, Madi, and Ripley - yeah, we had a dog called Ripley (a Lurcher).

It's lovely, tim. Animals are such a special part of life. You could sub cats, horses, or whatever furkid in your poem. It's a universal sentiment. I miss my cats that have passed so much.

I am emotional this morning ...missing my Ripley. We've been watching Paul O'Grady's: For the Love of Dogs .. and we've a growing fondness for lurchers..thanks for the review, William xo

Wow, what a wonderful poem. Masterful too in its use of metre, I might add. I mention it because it's hard for me to believe only a little while ago you were self-continuous about learning the traditional flow of formed poetry. But now, you feel it in your heartbeat, and it shows in wonderfully effortless verse like this one.

As for the message *wipes a tear* it's beautiful. The shortness of their lives compared to ours is probably the only down side to living with a canine companion. But still...they give their all to us for the time we have them.

Thanks for writing and posting this. Mega hugs!

Beautiful, tim. It made me emotional in a good way. I love the last line especially... it sums it up perfectly. Mallory thanks you too... xoxoxo

"Dogs are love - simplified" That they are. They love with such single-minded devotion. I still miss our Princess even after a year.

What a lovely and loving tribute to all those missing companions. Doesn't seem to matter how long they've been gone or whether another has come to fill their place the memories linger.
Thank you for this.

Hi tim, wonderful poem! You summed it all up, what dogs or other pets mean to us.
Call me sentimental, but I visited the place, were we buried my dog over twenty years ago, when we were on holidays last week. (Because he died there during a stay.)

Wonderful homage tim. Truer words could not have been better written. I know it will be hard for a long while, but I have no doubt I will feel her love always...

Thanks for for writing this tim, for all of us and for you..

You write a simple, deeply powerful poem. A dog as love, simplified. I cannot think of a better way to describe so many of the dogs I have known - large, small, languid or energetic. I am especially taken by the empty space you describe; the form not there in body, but in our hearts and minds always. Thank you.

Thanks Parker. Lots of people say they feel the weight of the dog on the bed, snuggled against them.. but there's nothing there. Is there? I dont know. Is because we're used to it or something otherworldly .. don't know. I know what id like it to be.

Thanks Parker... tim xxoxo

Thank you AC. I remember trying to sort out metre, but it's second nature now mostly. Often a line pops out perfectly but often they don't, so have to work to make them fit and still say what i want them too xxxoo. Maybe one day i'll be ready for another dog...maybe

thanks for everything xoxox

A great tribute to those lost souls. I can feel the attachment those little creatures build with us. I know the pain of loosing them. I just lost a cat yesterday. :,(

A simply written beautiful poem...
