Disasters, Delights and Other Detours - 92. Appassionati

A couple of experiments with a form new to me. Perhaps this will be a successful trial, maybe not. You can decide.

Summer

The morning star has given way

to colors at the break of day,

in all their fabled panoply

before the sun

starts on its daily run

the birdsong to accompany.

Night’s storms and thunder are undone

as fresh winds from the north are spun

the moment dawn thought best to play

where sky meets tree

when one looks easterly,

the riven clouds to chase away.

The shadows from our blankets flee

and soon will daylight dapple thee,

so now, before the morn’s begun,

let us obey

that urge for sweet delay,

so two, entangled, be made one.

Winter

The sky above seems grey and cold,

and mirrors say that I am old,

but understanding is not theirs;

for they mistake

the green, new sprouted ache

for you is nothing that compares.

I cannot quench this inmost fire

Which burns my heart with swift desire

And leaves me breathless in the heat

Beneath the sun

Which overhead must run

Despite the bitter snow and sleet.

Outside the window all is white,

But in our room the flames burn bright

And shadowed, play upon the spread

Where I lie back

Awaiting your attack,

Upon my soft, surrendered bed.

You’re very kind. So you think the form works?

With regard to the form, the short answer is yes. The longer one is... the rhythm I prefer in poetry(the 'music/cadence' my senses want to feel as I read) is there in these stanzas... instantly found once I read line four and five as one and bounced on each end rhyming word of those lines. :)  Did you understand what I meant?

As far as the poems, regardless of form, I found them each, Summer and Winter, beautiful.

Yes. I understand, and thank you very much!

I read poems every now and then because I am  more a story reader. But I read yours because they are always good.

i don’t analyse them, I only taste them en say WOW.

I love the way you put it: you taste the poems. Sometimes I think one must read poetry slowly, just one poem at a time. A whole book of poetry might take quite a while to finish, but it’s worth reading it that way. Thanks very much for taking a moment to sample these.

I like them both, and the descriptions are evocative.  They are well-written, but I must admit to having difficulty with finding the right rhythm when it changes toward the end of the stanzas.

The change in meter and pattern can be jarring, or maybe just enough to give one pause over those lines. Thanks for your thoughts and for considering these poems.
