    Word Triggers

    By Valkyrie

Certain otherwise-innocuous words can be a trigger for some people.  Maybe it's a negative association with the word - a reminder of past trauma or a social faux pas.  It could be a word that becomes an inside joke - an innocent word given a not-so-innocent meaning.  These words make us cringe and avoid them and not really want to explain our reaction to other people.  For me, a certain spring-blooming flower is a word trigger.  I avoid saying the name of this flower because I have  negative ass

    Write, Write, Write!

    By Valkyrie

The deadline for the 2024 anthology is just about two weeks away, which is not too late to submit a story to the proof team!  Here are a few tips about participating in the anthology: Stories can be as short as 1,000 words The link to the theme can be tangential - it doesn't have to hit us over the head.  So, keep that in mind if the theme isn't speaking to you.  Participating in the anthology is a great way to get new readers.  A lot of people read all the anthology stories, so i

Abomination

I manage medical labs. Part of that management is I decide which tests ordered by our providers are integrated into our EMR (electronic medical record). Some will never be "mapped," as it's called, because they're esoteric, or just too rarely ordered; it takes effort and time to do this mapping, so we pick and choose which get added. Well at the request of a number of providers who particularly like this odd genetic-based test for cancer screening, I began the process of mapping this new it

Who W/we Are

Who W/we Are   First if I am out of bed at this god-forsaken time something is on my mind. Right now, it is the feeling I must defend who and what tim and I are, and how we live. I likely don’t. This will likely be repetitive. But I don’t care. Better out, than in! I am a Dom. A Dominant man. I have a boy … who is my submissive. That does not mean only that I take the dominant role in sex. Our lifestyle is one of Dominance and submission, it is a partnership. tim, m

June Classic Author: Chasing the Shadows by KC

June, June, oh miracle of months! It's June! Halfway through the year and the start of my summer break! I want to celebrate with one of my favorite genres, paranormal! So I picked a vampire story. Oooh! What could be better?!    Length: 39,181 Description: Shade’s job is simple, catch the outlawed vampire, Garrett McQuinn. Can he still turn the sexy vamp over to the court, even when he starts to doubt that the man committed the crimes he's been charged with? Can Shade ever t

I think I'm back!

Even I can’t believe it, but here it is mid-2020, and I’ve been incommunicado for over six months. I’m not going to bore you with all the details, but four months of that was taken up with an illness (mine), a family death, a move, and then for the last couple of months, I’ve just been recovering from all that. And after all that, whenever I went looking for things, they often proved illusive; “Three moves are as bad as a fire’—Benjamin Franklin. In many respects, I should be sur

The New Plague

Last Tuesday I woke up w. an ear ache from sinus congestion and  a slightly elevated temp; went into Urgent Care on Wed and -- based on my history of sinus infections and a lack of more serious symptoms -- got some antibiotics. Those haven't worked.  My normal body temp is at the low end of normal (low to mid 97's; occasionally high 96's. Hit hit 99.8F yesterday. Shortness of breath is getting worse, lethargy has been present the last few days, and this morning the "digestive upset" portion

Weekly Wrap Up (Jun. 7 - Jun. 13)

Another week, and another week of nice weather. I guess some of our US of A neighbours had a bit of extreme weather, so hoping you all are okay  Tonight, I actually sat at my computer and watched 3 completely separate thunderstorms move through the city. Great lightening shows, and thunder that shook the stuff in my place. Won't catch me going outside in anything like that again Oops, let me retract that! Watching the 11:30 local news and our major freeway going through the middle of the c

Pandemics, work, and my dad

Okay, so approximately two and half months ago my part of the world shut down. Public transport became empty, restaurants  shut down, doctor offices closed, and life as we knew it came to a standstill. My job also closed but I was lucky, the pay kept rolling in. Then a month and a half in the company furloughed all part-timers and 20% of the full timers. However, once again I was lucky and the pay keeps coming in. They decided last week to reopen. We are paid for 36 hours and any hours we a

Featured Story: Daddy Bears

Sorry all, running late, so let's get this review up! Daddy Bears by MCVT Reviewer: Aditus Status: Complete Word Count: 6,284 I read this story because of its title—and because a friend recommended it. In the beginning we learn about a young man’s abusive childhood and his way of coping with it: every time it gets bad, he sends his mind on a journey. He turns the knob of an imagined red AM radio, and immediately he visits wondrous places all over the world--the streets of

Weekly Wrap Up (May 31 - Jun. 6)

Exciting things happened this week in the GA New Blogs  Did you catch them daily, or do you rely on the Weekly Wrap Up to get caught up   So last weekend, I played 18 holes of golf on Sunday. We all practiced safe distancing and such. I say played, but I lie . We went to play in the Rockies and some of the tee boxes were quite the climb, and then back down to the carts. Since I don't wear my prosthetic leg much since I've been working at home, I don't get out on it too much during the week.

What I Think

WARNING ***Discussion of race, religion, bigotry lies ahead. It's what I feel and think. If you don't like what I feel and think feel free to ignore this blog. If your mind is closed, do not read this blog. If you are afraid of your own truth, do not read this blog. If you are looking for honesty and acceptance, I hope you choose to read on. ***   I've been thinking about what is going on in our world besides COVID-19. I wish it wasn't what has been happening. I've been debating saying

Why am I writing this?

We all get a bit mad during our lifetime. No matter what. It is happening to everyone and everywhere all around the world. So many things happen to us, and while we are all a bit similar, events in our lives effect us differently. I have decided to write this memoir to heal. One of the biggest challenge of my life has been to understand why certain things happen, especially when I think about my mother. We never really had a good relationship. She always finds something bad whatever I was doin
