Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

Let me introduce my musty little corner of the library...

From time to time, I'm going to be posting short essays on this blog about historical events affecting the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and affiliated community. The purpose is to show some snapshots in time of where our community has been and how through time we've gained acceptance, found hope, and created a shared identity.   Not all the stories I'm sharing are happy ones, but I think you'll see even during trying times, people with alternative sexualities learned, grew, and took ste

Celebrations, resignations and and excitations :-)

Well, the good news first I suppose. I resigned this week from my job - and nothing has ever felt so good!! I am most definitely leaving my employer in a difficult position, but there is an extent to which they just need to "get over it" and there is an even greater extent to which I really do not care. I am of course fulfilling my contractual and legal obligations to the letter.   It's not as if they didn't get warning... they have seen the signs of my unhappiness for months. Through a cou

Weekly Wrap Up!

Peek-a-boo! Ya, Renee was kind enough to allow me to do another Weekly Wrap Up while she is out of town. So let's look back on our week then. We started by looking at our Featured Story: Leopard Skin Cover by Signature Author Graeme. I was privileged to have been a beta reader for this great story and Wildone's review wonderfully captures the interest of this story.   Premium Tuesday gave us a look at Incomplete Recollections by Johnathan Colourfield, a part of the Summer Premium Anthology. Vacation

So, finally back from vacation. Did I have a good time? Shrugs. Cozumel is a great place. I visited there several years ago when hubby and I did a cruise.   Our resort was all inclusive. Drinks and eats free, lots of activities, etc. It was ok. Nothing wonderful, but clean, nice folks, and our room and view was to die for. We got up, sat on our balcony and watched the cruise ships dock every morning. The pool and pool bar was right below us. So, that was a plus.   We met a lot of n

Post-Grad Life Update

So I graduated. It was the first time that a graduation actually felt like an accomplishment of sorts. Graduating high school wasn't really an accomplishment because if you IQ was above the single digits you would have to work to NOT graduate. They basically spoon feed you through, which IMO does a disservice to those going to college. But thats a different topic. But yeah, I was actually really proud of myself for finishing on time because college was a lot of work, especially the last two year

Premium Tuesday: Incomplete Recollections

Every Tuesday we showcase just one of GA's Premium Content stories. This week we're featuring "Incomplete Recollections" by Johnathan Colourfield. Last summer GA had a Summer Premium Anthology, but rather than post all the stories at once, they were posted one right after the other. Johnathan's story was just one of the three that were posted. Incomplete Recollections by Johnathan Colourfield   A journey to the centre of the mind. By clearing the mind and reconfiguring p

Silence

It's been five days since her passing and I have yet to have a heavy cry. I know it's in me, but for some reason I'm holding it back. Everywhere I look I see something that remains me of her. Some memory of the past. I keep expecting to hear her voice or see her walking down the hall. But all there is is silence. The house seems so empty now, even when dad is here. Friends stop by, but there's little comfort in their visits. I miss my mom and best friend.

Weekly Wrap Up!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!! I want to start the Weekly Wrap Up out by announcing that Wildone (a.k.a. Steve) has been promoted to Site Admin. Welcome Aboard Steve, good to have you! For those who haven't already noticed it, JSmith has posted a blog that he will be resigning from all areas of the site. He has been a major part of the site for many years and it is certainly a sad day. We certainly wish him the best and he will be missed. I'm sure I speak for many when I say, Thank you Joe

Resignation

Nine years. I've been a part of GA for just shy of a decade. I've seen it grow from only a few forums and some scattered author websites to a community of thousands of people across the world with millions of visitors every month. I was member 937 to join the site. GA is now approaching the 25,000th member. I joined this site on a random Wednesday and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. The people I've met through this site have guided me and made me who I am today and I co

Changes

Life, if nothing else, is one of constant changes. The older I get, the more I seem to realize just how much and often those changes come to you. I think I have finally realized you just can't set boundaries and all, because the moment you do life sends changes your way.   I went away for a wedding last week. It was for a friend who I look upon almost as a daughter. I have never seen so many things go wrong for one wedding. All I can say is for the invited guests, who knew nothing but the even

Ask An Author #17

The first Wednesday of the month, for anyone that follows the GA News Blog, you know what that means! It's time for another edition of "Ask An Author". For those new to the site (or to reading the blog), Ask An Author is our month feature provided by Dark. GA Members are able to send questions they'd like to ask their favorite author and Dark tries to get the answer and compile them in the monthly Ask An Author! Now, let's see what Dark has for us this month! Ask an Author #17   Welcome

Premium Tuesday: Project X

Gay Authors has always managed to remain free to it's members, one of the ways that it has managed to do so is through it's Premium Subscribers. Members choose to help support the site and keep it going by purchasing Premium Content which consists of a number of stories that are only available on the site by purchasing Premium Content. There are many great stories to be found in the Premium section, one of which is "Project X" by Nephylim. Project X by Nephylim   Mo

Co-worker learned an important lesson

So I am part of team where it is 75% female and over 50% has tenure on the team. It can be a tough group.   One thing I want to make clear is I don't care that it is a heavy female group just giving our dynamics.   I joined the team 7 months ago and have been making a great contribution to our team. I have been recognized at a regional level for my work too. My bosses love me and many of teammates do too.   There are 2 that absolutely do not like me and are troublemakers. Many times they

June Csr Book Club Selection: Cjames' Anthologies

June is the month our summer anthology comes out, and that's always a great event for our authors, new and experienced. I like to feature the anthologies from time to time, but this month I thought we'd take a peek at a single long-time member's various takes on the themes through the years. C James is the well-known, and popular, author of Circumnavigation--the longest story on GA. So how about taking a peek at some of his shortest, if you're not up to tackling his 1.1 million word epic? C J

Weekly Wrap Up!

As we end yet another week, we start another month. I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by! For those who haven't noticed, we added another new moderator to the Forum Moderation Team! I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome DynoReads to the FMT, we're happy to have you on board! Now, who's ready to see what happened this week in the GA News blog?   As the last Monday of the month, this week included the CSR Discussion Day. Not only were readers able to discuss this month's sele

Stuck like Chuck

Yup, in a rut in the mud or as I like to say a turtle in frozen molasses. LOL. Basically: writer's block.   The prompts here have helped me, but I am still frozen on my other major wip's.   Life has me stuck, I'm 4 weeks unemployed now and nothing in the hopper...which is scary and taking my focus away   Plus other family issues, etc...   Any advice from those in the writer's block prison?
