Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

Age.....

So lately I have been asked how old I am.   I don't understand why it is frequently coming up and I am fine with my age. Really.   So the issue has been people don't believe me when I tell them I am 32.   When I joined the Y they didn't believe me and I had to show my license. I told them who would lie and make themselves 32 to be older? Maybe I would put myself in the 20's bracket but definitely not 30's,   This has becoming increasingly annoying. So now when people ask I think I should

After School Special Lessons

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I went ahead and got through the humiliation of turning back in my state I.D., badges, uniforms, and signing my exit papers. It was difficult and upsetting, but also pretty illuminating as I tried to put into words what failed about this internship- on my side as well as on my supervisor's side.   It seems as if there are two guys that I can be- there's the responsible one that developed in grad school, through four successful internships, and can be pretty

#amwriting - All About Twitter

As some of you know, I am a fairly recent and fully immersed convert to the power of twitter. I have discovered cool new art through twitter, bought awesome things, been amused by cats and found new horse-based free to boot. And boots, the guy who sells my western boots often posts pictures of new arrivals on twitter – it’s generally delightful.   My twitter feed is made up of three things: general and often strange musings; #cowboyhour, a weekly event I run where each Friday we indulge in som

Crater Lake

As a geology geek, I've always wanted to see it.     There something really unique about the color blue of Crater Lake.     View from the South rim.     Phantom Ship Rock.     Waterfall fed by Crater Lake

Questions? PC v Laptop, manufacturer v dealer

I'm looking for advice here. I'm in the market for either a new pc or laptop. Money isn't the over-all issue. I want a device that has windows 8.1, i5 or i7 chip, 8-16 gb of ram, 500 gb-1 tb hard drive, that comes with whatever is the best word processor. Where would be the best place to look, the manufacturer or a dealer? And which would be better, a pc or laptop?

Premium Tuesday: Ice Fairy

It's time for another look into the Premium Section of Gay Authors. As most people know, the Premium Section is our way of saying Thank You to those who help support Gay Authors by purchasing a Premium Subscription. There are quite a few stories that have either only posted in Premium or have been moved to Premium for one reason or another. This week, we are showcasing "Ice Fairy" by Stephanie L Danielson.       Ice Fairy by Stephanie L Danielson   Sam is an up-and-

When Things Don't Work Out

Well, my internship with the state park did not work out. I'm pretty shocked and sad about it.   Long story short, they felt like a particular incident showed that I had not gotten over my behavior problems from a decade ago, and given that I had a lot of baggage with them from that time period, they did not feel like I was a fit with them. I was given a second chance and I blew it.   It sucks and I'm pretty angry at myself. I know I'll move on- I closed a door with ever working with the sta

Csr Discussion Day: Advent By Cole Matthews

Sometimes I cannot believe how fast a month flies by! July has come, and nearly gone, already! This month, in honor of Christmas in July, we featured Cole Matthew's story, Advent. He was kind enough to do an interview for me, and he'll be here from 7 to 9 PM, Central Time, to discuss Advent, and his writing in general. Please feel free to share you thoughts on his story, and post any questions for him you might have, even if you can't be here during his live blog chat.   Single people work mo

Gay Themed Movie Review "Yossi and Jagger"

I am bias about this movie, I really liked it as an 18 year old trying to figure himself out, and as a 27 year old, I still like it, because it is relevant to our times, which is quite sad and tragic.   I am going to leave my commentaries about Israel and its military towards the end of this review:   Plot:   Yossi is an Israeli military commander and Lior,, his subordinate and a team leader nicknamed Jagger due to his handsome looks, are in a budding gay closeted relationship on a Lebanon

Weekly Wrap Up!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend! Before I forget, I want to let everyone know that Cole Matthews will be doing a live Q & A via the blog tomorrow (Monday) from 7pm-9pm Central time. If you won't be able to make it, feel free to leave your question as a comment on the blog for him to answer, but we hope to see lots of people there. Now, lets see what happened this past week in the blog!   On Monday we did something a little bit different. We still featured a review, but instead

Thanks for the EXTREME pateince!

I just want to start by saying THANK YOU FOR PATIENCE!   It means so much that all of you have been so kind about my long absence. I have been astoundingly busy with getting ready for college and being a senior in school, it's been wearing on me.   There is good news however in that brand new stories are coming SOON.   There is bad news as well and that involves Trigger. I've been able to complete over half the story now, but complications have led to the halt of future writing for this s

Three WW1 Poems, a tribute

Poem 3: Many Vespers   On a road stretching to the horizon, The grey arrow of our marching is deterred By muddy feet and hearts without the sun To troop along behind the line of one life pilfered.   His boots placed reversed in the riding mount Remind us all that we are leaderless, Tho no tears can come from the dried-up fount Where once our sorrows flowed pure and boundless.   The funeral procession will march on, But this fuss for one rankles when many others Received cold obse

Nostalgic TV Shows: Happy Days

Well, I was channell surfing last night and just got a nostalgic itch for watching something older than me   Behold, the king of Nostalgic comedy: Happy Days.   Ron Howard and Henry Winkler had a good comedic duet, Ron's conventional Ritchie Cunnningham and Henry's immortal womanizing rebel, Arthur Fonzerelli, played to each others' characters perfectly. The supporting casts of stereotypical 1950's family and friends were equally comedic in their own ways from slapstick to understatement.

Endings

In a purely technical sense, as of now, I am unemployed. I left my employer this morning having handed in my ID card, blackberry, laptop etc and very much feeling the effects of my leaving party last night.   Obviously this is good news, not least because i will now have time to actually fulfil my obligations as a beta reader.   I now have a week of unemployment before starting my new role - I'm very excited

Hope everyone has had a wonderful week so far, but now it's almost over and that means that it's once more time to bring you a couple of new prompts courtesy of the prompt guru, Comicfan. Hopefully one of these two prompts spark something for you, if it does, make sure to share it in the Writing Prompts Forum and maybe we'll feature it next week in the Friday Prompt Me!   Prompt 342 – Creative Tag – List of Words Use the following in a story – a flag, flowers, a letter, a broken cell phone, an

Lava Beds National Monument

In Northern California, Lava Beds is a rugged beauty created by the Medicine Lake Shield volcano.     The landscape is covered in basalt- a thick, dark lava and many features like hundreds of lava tubes and vents.           If you ever get a chance, it is well worth a look.

The Brazilian Steakhouse

My partner and I often take walks in the evening and some months ago we saw that a new restaurant had opened a few blocks from our home. Under the name of the restaurant, in elegant script, were the words “A Brazilian Steakhouse.” The architecture was modern. Large, plate glass windows offered a view of the bar and beyond that we could see white tablecloths under atmospheric low lighting. It looked inviting, but expensive. We determined to keep it in mind for a special occasion, most likely my b

What should I watch next?

Suvitar suggestions: I am adding some notes in Blue   Sommersturm (summer storm Germany 2004)- This was actually my first gay non-pornographic movie (I had used Bearshare to download it, because I didn't have a credit card and I didn't know where else I could find gay movies, I wish I could pay the producers for giving me a great introduction into coming out. I saw this movie in 2005, when I was 18 and had left my home for college, 2 week early move in and right before they put the P2P blocks

"Don't Panic!" – or, how to read a screenplay

"Don't Panic!" – or, how to read a screenplay   In a scene from the pen of the immortal Douglas Adams, we are presented with this image:   "Ford!" he said, "there's an infinite number of monkeys outside who want to talk to us about this script for Hamlet they've worked out."   Adams’ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (London 1981) explains that the situation of the monkeys with movie ambitions is merely temporary, and is one of the unavoidable res

Redwood Highway

One of the places you must see before you die is a highway in Oregon and Northern California called the Redwood Highway.   US 199 runs from Grant's Pass Oregon to Crescent City, CA and points south. It's a frikkin magic ride that takes you past crystal clear rivers running to the sea through canyons that they have cut over the eons. Those valleys are filled with redwoods and sequoias.   That's just for starters. Those woods are full of wildlife. I pulled off the road to an Elk Viewing Area.

Trials and Tribulations

I have decided to end Trials and Tribulations Book 1 The Beginning with chapter 26, Family. I will be taking some time off and then begin the second book, yet to be named.   Thank you everyone that ever wrote me, commented on a chapter, and/or left a review. I never expected to have a story of mine to be so well received by so many of you. I truly look forward to writing again on this and other stories.   It will take some time to gather together a team to edit and beta for me, but most impo

Writing Tip: Copyright Infringment - Keeping It Legal

Every once in a while I like to take a look through the blog to see what has been used before that could be useful to some of the newer authors here on Gay Authors. Back in October 2012, Sara Alva (known then as KingdombytheSea) shared her experience with using song lyrics in her story Social Skills. Many authors use song lyrics in their stories without ever thinking of the repercussions that they may be facing if/when they decide to publish. I hope that Sara's experience helps some authors here
