Weekly Wrap Up (Apr. 28 - May 4)

    By wildone

Any and all spelling and grammar mistakes are fully mine and not the fault of my editors. Maybe I should think about getting an editor for once   Today, as in this afternoon I went to the Calgary International Beer Fest. Over 200 Craft breweries with over 700 types of beers, spirits, ciders and meads 😮 Oh my. Considered the largest in Canada and one of the top 5 in the world. Somehow I had a few shots of moonshine too!  I may or nay not be a bit tipsy  If I had the foresight, I could h

60

I tried writing an entry yesterday, as it was my 60th birthday, but luck would have it I was in a pissy mood.   Maybe it was the mojitos I had the previous night. I'd never tried one, much less two. They're good, but they remind me of the mint growing like weeds where we searched for wild asparagus when I was much, much younger. You know, kid days, when tromping around in mint to find fresh asparagus heads was fun.   Or, maybe it was the news, which I've been watching too much lately. The gu

Seriously!

Is it so damn hard to read over your post before posting it?! It gives me a headache trying to read what some people have posted. Try using spell check once! Most of the errors could be found by just REREADING your post before you post it. We are all old enough here to use proper sentence structure, to get our spelling correct, and to fix typos!!   DAMN IT!!   (Rant over)   Hope you all have a good evening!   Toodles.

Been a while since I blogged

Let's see some updates:   1. I am kind of in and out of this relationship with a boy. He's nice, but I get mixed feelings from him.   2. I have changed my job, which is interesting. I was not fired, but I got a better offer through my searching and left my statehouse job. I am now a Business consultant with specialty in taxation, health care, organizational structural dynamics, and a few other things.   3. Well with the list of my specialties, I think it is well assumed, I have my Master's

UD Student Gets Arrested on Rape Charges

From Myspace to Rape Charges   Man. I know Nick. Nick is the boyfriend of my friend, who's a pretty sweet girl and absolutely doesn't deserve this. It's absolutely creepy to think that just after the weekend I hung out with him and his girlfriend, he got arrested for having sex with a 12-year old girl. I mean, I played beer pong with him two weeks ago! *shudders*   It's crazy. Something about the guy always creeped me out, although I could never quite articulate it, and n

Hate Crimes Overview

Hate crime is defined as "any of various crimes (as assault or defacement of property) when motivated by hostility to the victim as a member of a group (as one based on color, creed, gender, or sexual orientation)." This is according to Merriam Webster. Thus, it can include cross burnings, spray painting epithets on someone's home or other property, assault, or even murder. What's more is that these crimes are actually increasing, or at least the reporting of hate crimes is on the rise according

Series of blogs on hate crimes?

I've been thinking of researching hate crimes. No, not just hate crimes against gays either. Hate crimes are a serious problem. The level of violence perpetrated in some of these crimes is quite high. Worst of all, some governments turn a blind eye to these heinous crimes, and some others even participate. So the question I ask is, "Should I start a series of blog entries about hate crimes?"

Stop trying to communicate while being quiet

Its late and I should be in bed... not really. What I should be doing is sitting at work while a group of people count every item in the store. This plan however is simply FAIL. Turns out the scanners they brought have an older version of the software on them. I went through this fiasco about 4 and a half months ago. Had to call the company and get the software updated. Turns out I have to do this again. You would think they would have run through this issue by now. Nope certainly not, if it can

A Message from PETA

While you are out there exploiting new worlds, please don't wipe out the native wildlife. That's sooo 20th century.   There are unique species and ecosystems that took eons to evolve. It's a crime against nature and science to destroy them.   Besides- you never know what creature may become the next Siamese Cat or Golden Retriever and have great value. Here's a little pup I found on a survey in the Rho Andromeda system.     I found this cute little fellow on a survey of an ugly little

Working With Your Hands

When I was younger, I really had no use for doing any sort of crafty type of work. Re-finish a chair? No way. Build a deck? There are people you hire to do that. Put in a marble floor? Too easy to f**k up.   Then somewhere along the way I decided to actually try doing some of this stuff, and I discovered that when I shed my pampered shell, I was actually pretty damn good at it. I just finished re-doing a bathroom entirely in tile (natural stone, I won't work with that fake ceramic shi

Man-candy...what's in a name?

Two cute boys talked to me today ! For a guy my age, it's memorable when that happens.     Okay, I can't just leave it at that...here are the details.   I think I mentioned in an earlier blogs that I've taken up running in the mornings. I've been running pretty regularly since May. I crawl out of bed, throw on my running shows, and am usually out by about 5:00am. I run about 6.2 miles (10km) on the bike path and take the same route everyday. Apparently, there's a running club that meets d

Early night

Good news for once   Well, it's just 8:30PM and I'm already heading to bed. Reason is that we need to get on the road tomorrow around 5:30 AM (or 6AM at the latest) for a 9AM follow-up appointment at Stanford. And ya - NONE of this early morning part is the good news - lol - especially as anyone who knows me in person KNOWS that I am NOT a morning person.   Tomorrow is also day 57 since my transplant. This is the good news part as tomorrow's appointment will be the LAST time I have to go

Dogs are Evil

I was at work on Friday, brought my laptop in to write and everything. Halfway though the night it was time for me to get out of my nice cozy little office and walk around the park, make sure everything's still intact, no one got stabbed in the parking lot again, that all our buildings were still locked and unharmed. So I got to the playground, when I noticed a dog, just sitting there. So long story short, it seemed like it was a lost/stray dog, and every time I walked towards it it walked away

Chock Full 'o Nuts

Is it the coffee I'm drinking this morning, or our federal government? After reading that Timothy Geithner sent a letter to senate majority leader Harry Reid asking the senate to raise the national debt ceiling, I have to wonder. He wants to take our debt to out of control levels, and no one's talking about how in the hell we're going to get this shit paid off.   One can only hope that the democrats that control the senate can do the right thing for a change, instead of laying down for the Ob

August 9, 1942

Aug. 9, 1942   The United States and her Allies are on their heels in the Pacific. Japan looks invincible. From December until June, Japanese forces had over run Wake, Guam, the Philippines, Java, Malaysia, the Caroline Islands, the Marshall Islands,   Everything had been going Japan's way up until they were turned back at the Battle of the Coral Sea and were defeated soundly at Midway on Jun 4th.   The United States and her allies Great Britain and Australia decided on a time and place

I like to complain!

Do you ever feel that you're the only one to make contact?   I'll use my mother as an example, I decided that I wanted to see how long it would take her to phone me, so I held off calling. Three weeks later she calls to tell me off for not keeping in touch. I ALWAYS make the call.   It happens online too. Like with some friends if I don't bother to send the hi message it never gets done. I've left it with some contacts before for weeks and finally I get a message all pissed off asking why i

so, how's it hangin'?

I just had to blog about this. I told myself, 'Chase, wait a week or two then blog something, stop blogging so much it'll make them think you spend to much time on the computer' well f**kers, I'm not, but still, I couldn't pass up this opportunity to show you how incredibly hilarious my life is.   I love awkward moments. They make the best ice breakers at parties and if you haven't seen somebody in a long time and lets say you gave each other hand jobs and blow jobs all throughout high school

Act Like an Adult...

So it seems recently that some people around here cannot seem to play well with others. Take it from me. Calling people names or publicly attacking them is not the answer. There's no reason to go around calling people names simply because you disagree with them. I realize that people have different views on things. That's a good thing. I don't expect people to agree with me about everything. I learned the hard way about what can happen when one goes too far. At one time, some people even wanted

Rules of Disengagement

So there's this girl I used to work with.   We used to be close, but she had problems with her boyfriend and started pushing everyone away. Then, when one of the girls in her dept stated the obvious (i.e. dump him, he's a dick), it all ended in a rather fiery confrontation. I believe her exact words were "The only reason we fight is because of all the f**king stress at work". I believe the other girl's exact words were "You tell yourself that, honey." And then, psycho girl stopped talking to

Changes. Good or Bad?

Are you the type of person who shows people you care about them by being mean to them? But wait, you're not trying to be mean, but you just end up doing it, but in a joking manner. Yet everyone takes you seriously, and it gets you wondering why you even do it in the first place, because seriously, who wants to be friends with someone who's always teasing you/ being mean to you right?   Well I am this type of person, and I'm trying to change it. It just seems like I'm pushing the people I car

Thoughts on "Chronicles of an Academic Predator Series"

When I started writing Chronicles of an Academic character, my goal was to create a lead character (JP) who was smart and rich enough to surf through the era of the early sixties and experience the events of that time without being consumed by them. To do that, I needed a stoic, impervious character, someone who had a lot of secrets and buried them deep within and who thus was constantly guarded and deliberate.   The response I got from readers was like a fuel to me, motivating me through t
