Weekly Wrap Up (Nov. 17 - Nov. 23)

    By wildone

Steve has climbed into his cave and don't wake him up until the end of April.  I think it it is @Slytherin's turn to stay awake this winter   That bear just happens to be the colour of outdoors.  We got dumped on the past week. No road lanes, no sidewalks, no nothing. All buried in snow. It is beautiful if you don't need to go out into it  Also, the temperature dropped into the minus celsius without windchill  Winter is here, I hereby declare. May you all share the wonder of it

Kentucky Clerk Jailed By Federal Judge Over Gay Marriage

Sep 3, 1:59 PM EDT   Judge jails Kentucky clerk for refusing marriage licenses   By ADAM BEAM Associated Press       AP Photo/Timothy D. Easley   ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) -- A defiant county clerk was sent to jail for contempt Thursday after insisting that her "conscience will not allow" her to follow a federal judge's orders to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.   "God's moral law conflicts with my job duties," Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis told U.S. District Judge David Bunning. How A Student Chose A Shakespeare Sonnet.

M. has to memorize and recite a Shakespeare sonnet for school.   Most important criterion: No ‘thee’, ‘thou’ and ‘hath’ and shit.   My comment: I never found ‘shit’ in a Shakespeare sonnet before, so I googled it. I didn’t find any, thank God.   His final decision fell on Sonnet 130.   Next step: How do I pronounce this shit? Again with the shit… Anyway, for a German student that’s not an easy task. He needed some help and he found Stephen Fry:   http://sonnets.touchpress.com/titles/sh

My Dumb Ass Of The Year Award

Given the actual existence of Kanye West, it is difficult for anyone to be a bigger dumb ass but this summer, some one has risen to the challenge.   My dumb ass of the year: county clerk of Rowan County, KY Kim Davis.     This attractiveness challenged individual has been divorced 4 times. She has taken it upon herself to stand tall for the sanctity of marriage by refusing to give gay couple marriage licenses.   Only the most incredibly tone deaf, insensitive idiots would fail to see th

Serial Killers

Well I took a slight break tonight from marathon reading and writing to watch some TV, or more precisely catch up on some TV. I don't know how many of you watched Hannibal, but it really is a provocative TV drama centering around Hannibal Lecter, America's favorite Cannibal. I finished the final season today and had several thoughts about this version of Hannibal and Will Graham.   Yes, they are most definitely a messed up gay couple, but in a weird horror movie way, Hannibal makes sense as he

Here's To Us

No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us, WE ARE AWESOME !!!! OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!! · To Those of Us Born 1950 - 1979 TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE 50's, 60's 70's and 80's!! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright c

Now I Remember How I Got Into Gay Fiction

I just started re-reading one of my earliest bookmarks from Cryboy.org. As I read Jeff Allen's story "When Love Comes" part of his trilogy of stories, I realized why I started down the path of reading gay fiction and I can even now pinpoint something else, the balance of an erotic story and a gay fiction story. I will do an in-depth review on these three classic gems in a few weeks after I am done with the over 100 chapters, but for now, I just want to share something I rediscovered.   Like it

Another Retro Review: "wilderness Survival" By Jim Carter, Also My First Negative Review

I am going through a camping fetish stage right now, so bear with me as I dig through my old story bookmarks. I don't know why I feel like digging up the past, but there's just something interesting and reminiscent about reading old stories I used to like.   So let's review this story: http://www.nifty.org/nifty/gay/highschool/wilderness-survival/   To start off, I thought The Journey by Sunshine boy was dated, but pleasant and capable of being updated if the writer ever returns. This story

New York City Dreamin'

I got a new job. It pays better then the last one I had (so thats a plus), but there are also a lot of drawbacks to it also. First off, its across the river in New Jersey, and there is no train connection near where I'll be working. That means I have to keep the expense of having a car, paying for gas, and the tolls every day to cross the bridge. I also HATE driving. Its even worse because its in heavy traffic both in the morning and afternoon commute. At my old job in the city, I hoped on a sub

Retro Story Review: "the Journey" By Sunshine Boy

I am avid reader, but not always bound by GA's collection of talented writers   Today, I am going to review an oldie that I fished out of my bookmarks from years ago. It's a short story that can be read in one day if you feel like it, despite being split into 20 chapters. I never met this author during his time, but I do appreciate a nice reading.   http://iomfats.org/storyshelf/hosted/sunshine/   To start off, how much is love worth to you? I don't know about you guys, but $1500.00 sound

Silence Cnn

I am always on the lookout for ways to silence these media web sites that automatically activate my speakers and stream video into my computer without my permission.   To read CNN rather than hear it, Firefox users can install NoScript, then forbid scripts running from turner.com. This simple solution transforms CNN.com into an online newspaper.

Vick As A Steeler

You don't have to be a football fan to read this, or to understand it because it isn't really about football. What it's about is our priorities, what we allow as a society.   I can't get it out of my head how horribly dogs died at the hands of Michael Vick and, for my part, I think he's a monster. Many people defend him with the notion that 'he did his time and he's trying to do better, raising awareness, etc'. Well and good but, yes, he's a monster. He didn't make a one time mistake, he merci

Housekeeping In Old Virginia

On our recent trip, we did some antiquing and I found several fun old cookbooks. I think I will present some of my most interesting findings over the next couple of weeks. If you like cooking, eating, history, or goofiness, it should be enjoyable. Of course I am easily amused   Let's begin our old cookbook adventure. I started collecting these chestnuts from history because I love eating, the past, and of course reading. Soon I found so many interesting things about how food, cooking, and the

Lgbt Movie Review: "the Way He Looks"

Time to watch some movies and I pick the 2014 Brazilian film "The Way He Looks"; ironically, the movie is about a gay blind boy, like I could relate to that   Sometimes, I feel like a unicorn, being both gay and legally blind (I am fully blind in my left eye and have 20/300 distance with 20/70 reading in my right eye). It's a rare subject and it's a rare concept. To me, this subject is extremely interesting and important. Through boyfriends and hook ups, one thing I learned about modern gay

Sunjunctivitis

Having experienced a jillion years of Latin , you don't know how difficult it is for me to not use the subjunctive when David and Twoey are describing their points of view. But not too many 15 year old kids use the subjunctive case, at least not since about 500 AD. So I just wince and carry on.   O! Utinam ne pueri Diligibat!!

Another Late Night Confession

I'm tired but can't sleep and I have to be up again in just seven hours.   My mind is on the go and right now I can't get it to quiet. Too many things to deal with, too many things to wish for, too many bills to pay, too many demands, and above all far too little time and too little me. Ideas and Ideals, stories, obligations, dreams, and hopes swirl around me like some dizzy kaleidoscope of the unknown and the often traveled.   I have been informed that I am now the only one in my family - g

Cautionary Tale: I Almost Fell In Love With Donald Trump

One More Political Observation, I really am trying to get away from this, but for some reason; I keep getting pulled in by how ridiculous this stuff is getting.   Also for the people who keep saying wait it's only summer, this is not too early to speak politics or candidates; remember Citizens United ruling has made the idea of a honeymoon moot in politics. As long as you have one major Super PAC left, you are always running. It's an ugly concept and I think older Republicans and Democrats don

Bts Supplies

Okay, no more ranting this time around   Some of you may or may not know my obsession with stationary and office supplies . And I am a HUGE fan of BTS Haul videos! And also the What's in my Pencil Case/Backpack videos.   I really love watching the videos and seeing what students from all over the world would normally bring for school, though I mostly watched US/Canadian and Japanese ones and the occasional local ones.   And after watching countless of videos, I realized that students in t

Ugh! I Have To Talk Politics, Because This Is Ridiculous

Rant Start:   http://www.politico.com/story/2015/08/south-carolina-republican-party-donald-trump-run-2016-121725.html?hp=rc2_4_b1   Loyalty Oaths? What the hell is wrong with these guys? This is not the People's Republic of the United States, we don't need to pledge unconditional loyalty ot a political party in order to make our way in life.   I don't like Trump, I made that extremely clear, but this is stupid and is only causing the rifts within the GOP to grow bigger. Well, Over-Speculation And Over Leveraging Again

I miss Bluesox, who was a former member here from Boston in the Finance industry. Being an accountant, I am technically his mortal foe on valuation purposes ,but I loved arguing with him over the future of Capital markets and Capitalism itself. Beyond politics, my first love is Economics and we are seeing a classic example of Supply surplus with weak demand. Yes, the great recession was started with too much hype over Supply side economics, but the current situation really shows that there is m

A Serious Decision Concerning "18 Weeks"

I think I mentioned somewhere that 18 Weeks was begun in the middle of September '14 and finished sometime in April '15. I am (obviously) not a writer by profession, but the story just kept pouring out as I wrote all the chapters, every one. Then, of course, the hard part. I must have rewritten the chapters thousands of times, moving stuff around, adding and subtracting characters, etc. I'm sure every writer does this, but I certainly had never written a 250,000 word story before! Prior to
