Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

Writing Tip: Keeping It Legal

No - this has nothing to do with pharmaceuticals or jailbait - it is a much more serious tip on how to avoid legal issues when publishing your writings. We thank KingdombytheSea for this great and very timely tip, as more and more authors are looking to take the plunge into being published. Enjoy!       Keeping it Legal by KingdombytheSea   The Copyright Police do exist, and if you’re an author planning on publishing, it’s a good idea to keep that in mind.   When I wr

Leukemia - Light the Night Walk

It's a rare occasion that I'll blog about anything serious (or at all really), so I'll keep this short.   It's rare that you go through life and meet someone that doesn't have some sort of heartbreak in their past. I'm not talking about relationships either, but more of the kind that causes you to stop and wonder how life can be so cruel sometimes. From cancer, to domestic violence, to losing a loved one in an unfortunate accident, everyone has had something like this happen to them in their

Fatal Festivity

My last post here said how happy I am to go home. Ironically, last night I recieved a call from my mom telling me, my childhood best friends dad has died. He was suffering from Parkinsonism for a long time, had a mass compressing his spinal cord, which was found to be thankfully benign and he was bed-ridden since early last year. But, he was recovering well. The physiotherapy was paying and the last when I saw him about six months ago, he was able to walk on a surface but couldn't take stairs ye

Festivals and Cold

This is my first blog entry here in GA, and I must tell you I am a lousy bloger. I have started three blogs in my online life and abandoned all three after a while because of lack things to post. Then, why am I doing this now? Do I have more things happening to me now? Well... for starters, I am indeed going through a period of change, no not Sex change, but a change regarding my career, my life, my surroundings and what not. More over, I have matured over the years to be able to find few stuff

Why am I still such a Romantic, when I am so Rational? fixed typo

The job is ugly, my numbers don't see any light at the end of the tunnel if we keep this up. I am awaiting a Board meeting to make a presentation of my findings and hope some of our outside directors can see the inherent flaws in internal management. Heck, even portions of senior management are siding with me (partially to save their own asses, sad but true).   Outside of work...I have just found my new favorite gay movie: From Beginning to End   http://youtu.be/BH6vtx3HVB8   This movie wa

Featured Story: The Art Of Walking In Snow

What better way to start off a week, than with a review by Radiant Renee Stevens - and especially when the review is of Hosted Author Libby Drew's The Art of Walking in Snow. Enjoy!   The Art of Walking in Snow By Libby Drew Reviewer: Renee Stevens Status: Complete Word Count: 10,666   Scanning through Libby’s story, the title of this little piece caught my eye. I’ve read a few stories by her, but I had not yet had the pleasure of reading this one. I’m so glad that I f

It does not and has not proceeded in a straight line.”   Dr. Jerry Cassidy drew a time line on his white board and put five tics on the graph. Weekly Wrap Up!

Announcement: As we've recently noted, we're working with our Hosted Author's to promote their eBooks. A few weeks ago we were proud to announce Cia's eBook Pricolici, and in today's "New Reading", we have Lugh's eBook Catara - which has a surprising ending. This is just the start and we look forward to working with more of our author's in the future and, as always, are exploring other ways of supporting the authors of this site.   October is almost half over - this year has been passing so f

Blast From The Past!

Looking back on old newsletters, I'm reminded of a program that we had of Author Chats. This was before we had a regular chatroom, and so it was a special occasion to schedule a time that an author would go into chat and talk to the community. I very clearly when DKStories had such a chat time, and I got to ask him some questions, that led to PM's and eventually meeting him for a movie. Unfortunately, now I'm stuck with him ;-)   So with these fond memories, here is an article from our October

Reflection

Recent events have had me thinking about a lot of things lately.   One thing is what lead me to this site. A little over 6 years ago (tax day 2006) I decided to follow the link to the site from Nifty. The link was at the bottom of my favorite story from author Vance aka Vlista20. When I joined the site I didn't know what to expect, nor did I think I would find some many different stories. I eventually branched out and found some really cool stories to follow and authors. I eventually became a

Will have to be off GA for a day or so....

Crazy shit happened today as I just found another $250,000 in costs and problems with cashflow with these contracts that senior management agreed to.   Need to do a cash flow analysis, sorry if I am late with Chapter 2 of Big Squeeze.   Here's a little reminder of me for you guys:

Writing Prompts #174 & #175

Thank G*d It's Friday! A chance to relax for most, a time to look forward to partying or time with family. For us, it is also a time to take a chance, for one last dance for romance... errr - I mean for writing.   Thanks to our Prompt-Guru Comicfan, we have two great new prompts this week, The Storm and The Job. I'd love to see how YOU might respond to either (or both) of these prompts. And then, please, share what you have with the Writing Prompt Community!   Prompt 174 – Creative Tag – The

Big Bird had two gay dads! I'm serious

Writing Tip: Using Description

First, Happy National Coming Out Day (NCOD)! First started in 1988, with the date picked as the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington, the simple theme is to come out - to those you love, those you know, as people's opinions of LGBT persons and rights is better if they know someone who is LGBT.   Now on to our tip, generously contributed by CassieQ, on Using Descriptions in writings. Enjoy!   Using Description by CassieQ   I like to use description to help set a m

ER

I was going to just do a status update, but it was getting a little long for that, so I decided to do a blog entry instead.   I kinda hate myself for doing this, but I finally went home and left my Mom at the ER with my dad and sister. I didn't want to leave, but my Mom was worried about me being able to drive home safely (I work 10 hours shifts and by the time I get off of work, I am exhausted). So after the fifth or so request for me to go home and get some rest, I went.   I am getting

Oh, damn, now what?

Well, I guess the time has arrived.   This morning, I worked with an enrollment advisor at a university that thinks I have what it takes to pursue a Bachelor's in English. At least I got the language right. So, at 62 years of age, I'm going back to 1968 when I dropped out of college the first time around.

Good things coming.

Okay as I promised I am working on things. I finished my Halloween story and I have a beta going over it even as I write this. Huge thank you to KC.   I am revising the end of my Prompt Story. The sucker is over eight pages and still not finished so looks like it will be going outside my usual "The Prompt You Say" stories and getting a heading all of its own. I never do that unless a tale reaches ten pages. I will be shopping it around for a beta soon.   Work continues on my other two main p
