What elements make for a believable character? What can writers add that aids in the complete and utter suspension of disbelief? Lots of thing come to mind like quirks, back stories, associations, inner thoughts, tribulations - and the list goes on and on. However, something many authors have done with beloved recurring characters is to give them hobbies. Certainly Sherlock Holmes had several and varied 'pursuits'. Agatha Christie had Miss Marple constantly knitting. Let's try rounding out
How do you feel about dragons? They're some of my favorites! I also love to feature all different kinds of stories for the CSR. Established authors, promoted, new authors, brand new stories or stories that are the latest in a long list of author's backlist. Dark said that was the first specific MM fanfic of Anne McCaffrey's Pern stories written and shared on GA, and I thought it'd be good to return to the series roots. What did you think of it?!

It's been a busy week and our buddy @wildone has went out to the wilds on vacation. Somebody, somewhere forgot a little something... so I'm dropping this in and you'll have to check back later for more updates. -Myr Update: That somebody was, me Cia... and I developed a migraine last night and went to bed at 7:30 PM and slept for 11 hours. Isn't that always the excuse? 😉 Too much sun yesterday, and I'm not as good as Wildone to get a nasty burn and keep on working. He's a machine! My family ri
Elements That Don’t Work
There are always going to be times when an artist, in any genre, is going to run into a few problem elements in writing their story. It happens. There’s no reason to panic, and certainly no reason for you to give up on your project. It’s a normal part of the process. Sometimes you have ideas that seem so exciting and engaging at the time while you’re planning things out...and then, once you start writing, you realize that those ideas aren’t as supportive of your stor
I’m writing this blog on July 26th, which is the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. July is Disability Pride Month, which honors the passage of the ADA. The ADA prohibits discrimination based on disability and guarantees equal accommodation to people with disabilities in areas including access, transportation, and telecommunications.
I had a wonderful discussion today with one of my patients (I work with adults with developmental disabilities) about the ADA and wha
I wrote my first anthology story for GA for the summer 2014 anthology, The Backup Plan. It was the start of my Max and Elliot series and hooked me on writing short stories. I’ve participated in every anthology since then, sometimes with multiple submissions, for a total of 27 stories. I’m planning on keeping the streak going with the upcoming Anniversary anthology with at least one story.
I thought I’d give some insight as to why I continue writing for all the anthologies and the proce
Welcome to the last Monday of the month. I hope it's gone well for you, and if not, you're here not to enjoy this interview 😉 with @James Matthews and share your thoughts on his story, Him in the Dust. Don't be shy now!!
Are you a person who makes their bed in the morning, or do you not see much point?
I really had to think about this question before giving an honest answer. I'd say my bed is unmade most of the time. I do like to get into a made bed as I'm sure we all do so on a weeke
Whew, getting this in by the hair of my chinny chin chin
Even though I'm fair haired (in the summer my hair turns strawberry blond), I know I burn, and I do everything possible besides wearing a snowsuit, touque, and ski goggles in 30 C weather, but I still am burnt to hell tonight I mean, about a hour before I went out I took a shower and rubbed in a generous supply of SPF 30 Sport and then waited 10 mins and sprayed on SPF 50 Sport. Went down to my vehicle 5-10 mins later and put on so
As we work to fill up our queue of features and what not, I thought I'd drop some stats information about some of things going on at the site.

Vacation!!
Nothing stimulates the recreative juices like a getaway. Here we are in the middle of July with a lake beckoning, the hammock swaying gently between two trees, and a grill smoking away with barbequed delights searing and sizzling. A cold, condensed mist trickles down the side of a glass of lemonade, or an adult beverage, and a dog-eared open book splays on your lap as the birds chirp and the squirrels wrestle.
Maybe it’s time to relax and try a new prompt! Pull out the c
While the anthology is now a combination of poetry and stories, in the past, site poets participated in poetry-exclusive anthologies. I thought I'd feature a couple of those and hopefully get some of our poets inspired to contribute to the anthology. I know of at least a couple of poetry submissions for this year, so let's have a solid showing to honor GA's anniversary!

Firstly, @Paladin, you are most welcome.
I think I will hold on to my two cents worth, in the hopes of getting yet more feed back from the membership. I await and watch, till later, bye.
Although I've been in the UK many times, I've never had marmite. Since it's salty, I'd likely try it in porridge. After trying it on crackers first.
Vegemite is a maybe too. I've never had it either.
As I said once in my youth when I mixed bourbon with grape soda, it might be good.

BTW - I did drink two, but my taste buds were quite dull at the time. It did look rather pretty when it came back up.
This word prompted me to pause for breakfast, porridge.
Since I like my porridge savory, I put odd things in it. People typically make faces when they hear my additions. This led me to consider inporridgibility. Are there things I wouldn't put in porridge? Yes, there are. Tuna for one.
What would you dear readers never put in your porridge?
Thanks @sandrewn for making one of my favourite words even more interesting. I have used it in relation to people and their behaviour and some people have used it in relation to mine.
Even so I had not come across it in Philosophy. Unfortunately I don't have access to the full article at present and will need to go through a library. The concept is that a proposition is incorrigible if it cannot be corrected; that is, it is not possible that belief in it should be found to be mistaken. Robi
Never used some form of incorrigible? I find this hard to believe. But I suppose I have an unfair advantage. I've been called incorrigible more than a few times.
