@Parker Owens

You have your own line of watercraft? This greeted me this morning when I came on to post today's chapter. I think this is the brand of boat Phil Martinez buys his father as a present after signing his first contract with the Baltimore Ravens. :P

I have a bit about Phil and Riley buying the man a present as a thank you for negotiating on their behalf.

For anyone who didn't bother to look it up, this is the Montjuic Communications Tower in Barcelona.

I wrote Flying Circus months ago. My use of the Orient Express was wishful thinking since it had resumed service at some point and shut down again.

Way after I was done writing, I came across an article about someone discovering old railroad cars and restoring them to their original grandeur. There are plans to restart service during the summers.

These are pictures of the restored cars.

Those are stunning!  I would love to travel on that train!

Me too. Those interiors are stunning. Since I can't afford it, Ie'll have to settle for something less grandiose. :P

Would so love to get to Cuba.  I managed a couple of trips to Mexico years ago.

A question, Carlos, the visit to the Holocaust  memorial which you describe above has been published or it’s a trailer?

hope your weekend goes well.  Here it’s a rainy end to the 4 day holiday.🌈

Spaniards and Brits can travel there a lot easier that Americans can, and Cuba I think is not very expensive. Go for it.

The excerpt was part of CJ's trip to Israel in Goodnight, My Angel. His trip was interrupted by Owen's sister falling ill and he traveling to Australia to be with Owen.

Good luck, Gary!  I remember getting to this point and being filled with both excitement and trepidation, especially at the point of officially turning in my papers. It was surprisingly difficult to actually do that!  I was looking forward to it and scared of the change at the same time.  I’ve never been sorry I took this step, however.

Retirement can be a two-edged sword. If we remain active and find something that interest us to occupy our time, it can be wonderful. If we sit at home watching daytime TV, it could be maddening after a while.

Well, I have a husband who is 82 years old who takes the majority of my time, but I also do handwork like crochet.  Although that has fallen to the wayside for a while due to carpal tunnel.  That is, hopefully being taken care of now.  Had the first surgery on Friday.  The second will probably be sometime in January or February.

Hope the recovery's swift and complete. My Mom had the surgery and it solve most of the issues. Arthritis still bothered her, but she was able to use her hands again.

What a coincidence, just a few hours ago a friend recommended a youTube video of a TedX talk on "The Four Phases of Retirement."

I wrote this as part of CJ’s visit to the Holocaust Memorial in Israel.

A smart reader made this comment

According to CNN, Senior U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton noted similarities in the mindset of January 6 rioters to the Nazis during a sentencing hearing.

I wonder if Judge Walton’s a CJ fan.

This afternoon I saw a play, Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski, which addresses this very topic. It's about the Holocaust framed by the question of  What are we, today, going to stop what's going on. It's a one-person show starring that great actor David Strathairn. It's touring the U.S. and the world. I highly recommend it if it comes your way. Here's a description of the play.

In a tour-de-force performance, Emmy Award winner and Academy Award nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck, Nomadland, and Lincoln) portrays the Polish World War II hero and Holocaust witness Jan Karski, who risked his life to carry his report of the Warsaw ghetto from war-torn Poland to the Allied Nations and the Oval Office, only to be met with inaction and disbelief. Strathairn captures the remarkable life of this self-described “insignificant, little man” and his story of moral courage and individual responsibility.

Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski comes to Berkeley from an off-Broadway run, having previously received acclaim both across the United States and internationally in Bilbao, Spain, and in London at the 75th Anniversary Commemoration of the Liberation of Auschwitz.
