I think you identified both strategies and the reasons for them. I think if your goal is more readers, than your standard style is best.  On the other hand, it’s an ideal opportunity to experiment, and possibly make it harder for readers to figure out who you are.  😈

That would definitely be my strategy. Anthos are a great time to experiment and I'd take the same mindset here... Also, a British 'accent' is kinda noticeable...

I've personally been trying for almost an entire year to finish a vampire story. I hoped to get it done before this Halloween season, but I have my doubts. Next Spring perhaps. Halloween in Spring? 🤔 Why not?

I started a vampire novel back in the early '90s   One of these days, I may actually finish it.  😁

I've still got about four or so to read, but so far some of my favorites are:  Unmasked, Fledgling, Can I Tell Ya a Secret, Well, This Happened, Septima‘s Potential,  Family Secret,  Thesis, Green Lightning and What It Takes.  

The front runners for me are Fledgling and Septima‘s Potential.   Both have great world-building (jealous) and Fledgling surprised me in a way I wasn't expecting.   They set a high bar.
