Tristan's High School Life - 2. Chapter 2
I walked into the room and took the seat next to grandma
“What’s going on?” I said looking at both TJ and grandma
“Just waiting for the principal” grandma said putting her hand on mine
“Jackson can’t get out of his meeting but said we can fill him in later” TJ said putting his phone down
Just then the older lady I talked to his morning came in
“I am so sorry about this” she said looking at grandma and TJ
“Principal Graves you told us both you had things under control” TJ said
“Mr. Michaels as I assured you, your partner and the Mayor we are very tight on security. A student leaked that Mr. Campbell went to school here.” Principal Graves replied
“What are you talking about?” I said louder than I should as Grandma gave me a look
“Tristan, someone took a picture of you and posted it on twitter and Instagram about the rich boy slumming it public school” TJ said
“Ali saw it and called her father after alerting me” Grandma said as she started to rub my back
“So who are the people outside?” I asked
“The press and nosy people” Grandma said irritated
“If you had just done private school this wouldn’t have happened.” TJ said angrily
“TJ this is neither the time nor the place to discuss this.” Grandma said giving him a look
“Madam Mayor, if you please, we do have a few other high profile families whose children attend here; for example there are two students in his grade whose parents work at the United Nations.” Mr. Cartwright said
“Andrew, it’s funny how the Romero boys have gone undetected.” Principle Graves said looking at Mr. Cartwright
“They aren’t in my homeroom Agnes, so they may not have been noticed.” Mr. Cartwright replied
“So what am I going to do?” I said to no one in particular
“Go to private school” TJ said which earn him a slap in the head from grandma
“Mr. Cartwright, Ms. Graves; I do understand this to be an anomaly but I need to make sure Tristan is safe.” Grandma said
“Yes I understand and we are working on a plan for security. I just ask for patience” Ms. Graves replied
“You know” TJ started to say before grandma cut him off
“If you mention private school one more time TJ I will put you over my knee in front of everyone” Grandma said which made everyone laugh except TJ
“Ms. Carmine you are Mr. Campbell’s legal guardian correct?” Ms. Graves asked
“Yes, I am his guardian but he lives with his brother” Grandma said
“Ok, so with your approval we’d love to have Tristan stay with us” Ms. Graves said
“Grandma I’d love to stay” I said giving her puppy dog eyes
“You have my approval to stay” Grandma said much to TJ’s dismay
“We will talk about this later” TJ said
“We will not” Grandma said giving him the stare down
“I am sorry we had to go through this” Ms. Graves said
“I take it the child responsible will be dealt with” Grandma asked
“Yes, I was able to identify them and they are being take care of” Mr. Cartwright said
“You don’t need to kill her” I blurted out which got me some strange looks
“Tristan” Grandma said
“Sorry” I said looking down
“She will not be in any of his classes and she has been suspended” Ms. Graves said
“Let me show you out” Ms. Graves said to Grandma and TJ
“Tristan, please stay and let’s chat” Mr. Cartwright said
Grandma, TJ and Ms. Graves left
“So Tristan, I wanted to let you know a few things. I was supposed to retire last year but your grandma and Ali asked to stay on so you’d have someone here you could talk to and trust. My classroom is a safe haven for you anytime you need it. I only have your homeroom and math class.” Mr. Cartwright said
“Thank you Mr. Cartwright but I feel like they don’t trust me to be here” I said
“On the contrary young man, your grandmother moved heaven and earth for you. She told me that you wanted to have a normal life and wanted to be in public school. She and I had many meetings and talked quite frequently over the summer. Every teacher you have was carefully chosen and the reason for that was so we didn’t have a teacher step out and say you went to school here. We didn’t expect it happen on the first day.” Mr. Cartwright said being interrupted by a knock at the door
“Andrew, the Romero’s are here after hearing about Tristan they are worried. I’ve called their children down to the office. I was hoping the three of us could talk to them” Ms. Graves said
“Ok, I’ll escort Mr. Campbell back, who is the third person.” Mr. Cartwright said standing up
“Mr. Campbell” Ms. Graves replied
“What?” He replied shaking his head as if he didn’t hear her correctly
“I want them to see that Mr. Campbell is not leaving us over this matter” She replied
“Ok, which conference room?” He asked
“This one let me get the Romero’s” Ms. Graves replied
Mr. Cartwright just smiled at me as we sat there. The door opened and Ms. Graves came in followed by two parents and three boys. My mouth dropped when I realized two of them were Justin and Julian.
“Mr and Mrs Romero, this is Mr. Andrew Cartwright our Math Chairperson and Mr. Tristan Campbell the young man at the center of the news story” Ms. Graves said
“Nice to meet you Tristan, I am Alberto Romero and this is my wife Isabelle Romero.” Mr. Romero said shaking my hand
“These are our boys Julian, Justin and Ricky” Ms. Romero said
“Nice to meet you” I said
“Now let’s get down to business. I understand your concern about the boys being here. I just finished meeting with Tristan’s guardian and she and Tristan decided he can stay.” Ms. Graves said
“With my work in the UN and being the right hand of the Spanish Ambassador I cannot say our situations are similar” Mr. Romero said
“Sir, I think our situations are different but similar. My grandma is the Mayor of New York and my brother is the Deputy Mayor, my brother in law is a judge on a nation T.V. reality show, my grandfather is the President of Julliard, my other grandfather is the head of New York City’s LGBTQI Legal Center, my other brother is a federal court judge need I go on?” I said perturbed
“As you see Mr. Romero, Mr. Campbell’s situation has more at stake than yours” Mr. Cartwright said smirking
“When I sat next to you in class I didn’t realize you where that Tristan Campbell” Justin said
“Why does everyone keep saying that Tristan Campbell; my name is Tristan Campbell. There is not that in front of my name” I said
“We saw you on that talent show with your brother in law.” Ricky said
“Oh, that was so long ago.” I said
“You were also in the news for the mayoral election” Justin said
“If you would Mr. Mrs. Romero, you see Mr. Campbell has just as much attention focused on him as your boys would.” Ms. Graves said
“Tristan, if I may ask, why are you are going to school here and not to a private school” Ms. Romero said
“I’ve been in private school my whole life. My brother and grandma want me to have the best education possible. In private school everyone wanted something from me including some teachers. I made the choice after talking with my grandmother and she agreed after doing some research that she was fine with it.” I said
“You’ve mentioned grandmother and brother. What about your parents? Where are they?” Mr. Romero said
“I don’t know” I said
“Surely you must.” Mr. Romero pressed
“I don’t and I haven’t talked to my dad’s in over 10 years and I don’t plan on it” I said
“Are you homophobic?” Mr. Romero asked but before I could respond Ms. Graves did
“Mr. Romero frankly that is none of your business.” She said and gave Mr. Cartwright a look
I started to shake as I was getting angry but before I lashed out I teleported out.
Where did he go?
What's TJ's issue?
Has Tristan finally learned to control himself?
