    Word Triggers

    By Valkyrie

Certain otherwise-innocuous words can be a trigger for some people.  Maybe it's a negative association with the word - a reminder of past trauma or a social faux pas.  It could be a word that becomes an inside joke - an innocent word given a not-so-innocent meaning.  These words make us cringe and avoid them and not really want to explain our reaction to other people.  For me, a certain spring-blooming flower is a word trigger.  I avoid saying the name of this flower because I have  negative ass

Author Guess Who #5

Once again, doing this from my phone, so please forgive the lack of extra formatting. You'll have a couple of weeks to guess who this author is, and then I'll do the reveal. Happy Guessing! What is one thing that most GA members might not know about you? I enjoy singing and acting in amateur performances, though I’m not very good at it. What prompted you to write your first story? Reading an article in the paper about online story writing. What genre of books do you enjoy read

Weekly Wrap Up (Nov. 3 - Nov. 9)

Well I look outside and it is yet snowing again! This is the 3rd time it has snowed this week, but this time it is actually going to get cold. You all can think of me as I go to the Western Semi Final of the Canadian Football League between my Calgary Stampeders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers! Will still be snowing tomorrow at game time and with the windchill it will be a balmy -22 C (7.6F). Add in fact that it is getting dark out at 4:50 PM now, it should be a great day!!! I think I shall imbib

Music - Henry Purcell 1659 - 1695

Henry Purcell 1659 - 1695 Purcell was a 17th century English composer and songwriter who died aged just 36 having lived his entire life in London.  He was born in the final year of the English Commonwealth - a turbulent period in British history of bloody civil wars which ended when England became a republic under Oliver Cromwell, after chopping off the king’s head (Charles I). By the following year, 1660, the republican experiment was all over - the English monarchy was restored.

The year just keeps flying. I'm already looking ahead to Thanksgiving, mainly because I work in retail. So the prompts reflect that. Prompt 799 - Creative Tag - List of Words Use the following words in a story - a fat turkey, a long table, a parade, a winter coat, and an apple pie. Updates and NaNoWriMo 2019

What to say.  What...to...say. First of all, it's the 7th. I'm tired. So very tired. I've been either in a lot of pain (knees were grapefruit sized they were so swollen) and I've been doing Nano! So how about I break it down? Week 1 of National Novel Writing Month: Week 1 has been interesting to say the least. On the 3ed, our friend's van died. She had to get a jump to start it up and we couldn't let it shut off (which made getting around a bit interesting), but I got so

Ask an Author 2.0 #25

Welcome to the final installment of Ask an Author. Yep, you read correctly. I’m out of questions, so unless I get a few new ones, there will not be a December blog entry. In the meantime, a member sent in a query for several authors.   "Which is harder to write and why... short stories (so much has to be crammed into so little space) or a chapter story (so much research to get it right, like CJ and his environs or Donny and Louis in Mikiesboy's Changes & Changes Again?)

Decades of Production

How in the world is this possible?  How can I have an idea decades old and I'm still holding on to it?  Is it possible that I struggle with letting someone else write it?  Truth is, I struggle with the reality that this story deserves a better writer, because I want it to be perfect.  Is that why it's taking so long?  Am I building my talent, and trying to get to the point where I"m good enough, or am I hoping that someone will step up and write the DAMN thing?  Lol.  You don't even know how lon

Memories and Lyrics

I'm not really a writer - things pop into my heat now and then and demand to be written down, but not good otherwise; and at the moment there's too many competing emotions to make any coherent statement. So I'm going to do what I've done before, and use a selection of song lyrics to express my feelings on this -- both my birthday, today, and the 1-yr anniversary of the loss of my boy at the end of the week. Kind of traces my emotions from the beginning or our relationship, and the hesitancy he h

November CSR Feature: Those Cerulean Eyes by Arran

Happy November! Just 2 months left until 2019 comes to a close, and I thought I'd feature a story that just came to a close as well, Those Cerulean Eyes by Arran. Long-time member of the site, this is one of a few stories Arran posted this year. Did you read it? If not, here's your chance before the Discussion day at the end of the month! Also, I'm still looking for ideas on how to feature site stories and authors to change up the first/last Monday of the month blog. The CSR format has been goin

Confession

Confession  When i started this journey of discovery i had a lot of help from a lot of Great Sirs. They answered all of my questions and gave me a lot of things to think about. i had a bad experience and learned from it.  I then met my  current boyfriend he has open my eyes to a lot of new experiences. (i have been given permission to share this) we are both older over 65. We have a good time together. Our first meeting was 7 hours just sitting and talking on his deck. We then have bee

Finally got back to writing.

So, I've finally made it. I'm back at the point where I manage to write. Over a period of about ten years, I got pulled further and further away from things that gave me inspiration to write. (or do anything creative for that matter) The reasons, may or may not be disclosed at a later time, but the gist of it is  that even if I didn't understand it at the time my life wasn't doing so good anymore. Top that with denial of being trans from way back when I was 10 or 12 years old. I b

Things Don't Always Work Out

Like the title says not all things in life work. It's a shame, but it's true.  My desire for our new boyfriend to become more in our little family didn't come to fruition. He decided it wasn't right for him and moved on. I've talked to him, but we'll leave it here for the moment.  All of this was hard on tim. Especially since he'd grown so close to Jim.  tim is willing to continue on this adventure - he has a big heart and wants to make me happy - but we will see.   I am awar
