    2025 Poetry Anthology Announcement!

    By Valkyrie

The GA Poetry Anthology is returning for 2025 with the theme "Diversity"!  It's the perfect theme to show off the diverse world of poetry and its various forms.  I look forward to reading what our site poets come up with!  Please note the earlier due date.  The extra few days will give me more time to get submissions ready for the big reveal in April to celebrate National Poetry Month.     2025 Poetry Anthology - Due: March 30, 2025 The 2025 Theme is “Diversity” Feel free to

Perils of Cooking

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I have been forced to stop eating take-out for lunch and now have to eat my own cooking. As I'm a fairly good cook, this isn't exactly an ordeal, but the clean-up promises to be. You see, I can start cooking just fine, but it is a little difficult to stop once I'm going. This weekend (my job is three days on, three days off, making my weekend a roving holiday of sorts that bears no particular relationship to the weeks of other people) for instance, I decid

Going Home, Part Tres

Today, I hit 58 on the annual counter, 6 years further than my father.   Today, I quit long haul driving mostly refrigerated loads across America.   Today, I finished getting Chapter 1 of The Pastel Cowboy read to put up on eFiction. I haven't put it up before because I thought it was a bit much for GA, but it seems some at GA want it, so I've acquiesed to their demands. I'll have it up as soon as I get home or Wednesday, whichever comes first.   Today, I finished the second section of Cha

PLEASE vote, If I can figure out how to make this poll work...

If you have no idea who S t e v e n is or need to evaluate some evidence... you can do that here S t e v e n's Gallery I, myself, would like to point out numbers 106, 101, 95, 77, 70, 48, 45, 44, 33, 32, 30, 25, 11, 6, 3, 2, 1... so like... all of them   Anyway, besides that, there's not a lot to tell really. I've been working, and tired, and my house is a disaster so I'm going to round up the troops as soon as I'm done here and make them help clean up since this is what happens when I work t

My Drunk Life!

So this past week has already started off to being a great one.   One thing I noticed this year was how close I and my co workers Brandon and Ashlee became over the school year. See we all met each other for the first time last year during the summer, and so how we just really clicked. Even after the summer was over, we would still see each other at least twice a week. And it's weird because we are each so different yet we get a long so well.   So this year when we all worked together for

Going Home

I'm on my last load for this company, headed for the barn, as the saying goes.   I'm sitting in the first rest area on I-80 in Iowa thinking I shouldn't be writing this, but should be eating my breakfast and getting down the road. After all it's past 0800 and my 10 hours were up at 0700.   I'm writing like I'm crazy, again. Chapter 16 (5,500+ words) was done in one day. Chapter 17 may take three, depending on how I do on the road.   I'm definitely not dropping as fast as usual. I'm still a

"I ain't never been in love"

You know that song, "Jane Says", by Jane's Addiction? It goes like this:   "Jane Says"   Jane says I'm done with Sergio He treats me like a ragdoll She hides The television Says I don't owe him nothing, But if he comes back again Tell him to wait right here for me Or just Try again tomorrow I'm gonna kick tomorrow Gonna kick tomorrow   Jane says Have you seen my wig around? I feel naked without it She knows They all want her to go But that's O.K. man She dont like th

day two...

So my SUPER BIG BOY started first grade yesterday. I know SO early... but we have year round elemetary school here so... anyway. I was sorta pissed off yesterday when Rich and I went to drop him off cause they had the walkway all blocked off with signs saying 'No Parents Beyond This Point'... I'm like... yeah, he's 5. I know we were just here last night to see what class he was in and who his teacher was, and we walked over and showed it to him and where he is supposed to line up, but... yeah,

Mr. Perfect (or what I'm es-saying about character)

Mr. Perfect   Mr. Perfect     What would we have in common and why would I be interested in reading about him?   We have all met Mr. Perfect in literature. Perfect grades, perfect teeth, perfect family, perfect life.   What an perfect ass-hat. We have NOTHING in common. I'm hating this guy already.   He's one of those rich, preppy guys that have parties with their rich, preppy friends on their perfect yachts and their perfect mansions.   Where's an F-ing U-boat when you need one?

Detroit Tigers & San Fran

The Detroit Tigers are on a winning streak again ... well, it's only two games so far, but it sure beats how crappy they were doing the past couple weeks. AND, it looks as though Gary Sheffield will be back in the line-up tonight. Now, all they need to do is get Joel "Zoom-Zoom" Zumaya off the DL (aiming for Aug. 21st, baby!) and get Kenny Rogers back in shape, and we've got a good shot at the World Series again. Woo-hoo!   I got my plane and hotel reservations today for my trip to San Francis

The Down Escalator

I wish I could figure out how to make money with this. There should be some way to get this thing to be productive.   I hit my peak a couple days ago.   I'm still pumping out the words on The Pastel Cowboy, finished Chapter 15 and got it out the door. Chapter 16 is muddling right now. I need to make a time shift. I need to be a couple months forward, but I also need to use the gun introduced a few chapters back, get two boys back together, get two other people (note how I don't say who) toge

Coolest thing I've seen in a while

This is Old Faithful at Yellowstone erupting in front of a June skyscape featuring the Milky Way to the left. The bright object at the top of the plume is Jupiter.   You can find really cool astronomy pictures like this at Astronomy Pic of the Day.   This one comes from Astropics.com

Just a second

First off let me appologize for my last entry. I was really upset when I posted it, and the more I think about it, the angrier I'm getting. Mainly at myself for buying into a bunch of crap that I shouldn't have bought into. I won't get into the details of everything, but what I will say is that I was told some pretty hateful things by someone last night and I let it all get to me when I should have just brushed my shoulders off and held my head up. To be honest, what was said to me made me rea

you know those sayings?

Anything that doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. God only gives you what you can handle. When the going gets tough, the tough, get going. Etc...   Who decided I needed to be this able or any stronger than I already am, which if I do say so, is pretty damn strong already. I have had one heck of a time since Wednesday. Let me see if I can explain this in a way that will make sense... So, where I live, across the street is a neighbor, Jesse, and he has been my neighbor for the last 27 years si

Oh man.

Today has been an amazing day. Although what happened was pretty great, it's not so much because of what happened as more of how my mood has been.   I wake up to go to work today, and my roommate finally moved in. He actually got here 5 minutes after I got up. It was good to see him again, and after I got out of the shower (I haven't shaved, so I have a little bit of stubble) his girlfriend said "that's who you remind me of--JOHNNY DEPP!" I have never gotten that before, but man did i

Taking Some Time For Myself

After a very stressfull 18 hours, I've decided to take a little time off of the internet and just chillax. I won't be writing and I won't be reading. I'll just be living my life. Going to work, spending time with my bf, friends and family and trying to remember what life was like before I got caught up in the grind of keeping up with stories and all the drama that comes with it. When I get back, I just want to write and send my chapters off to Joe. Nevermind me, I'm just venting. Anyway, I ju

Doctors suck and so do squirrels and other tomato thieving creatures

I'm going to whine now, so be forewarned.   My hand hurts. Well duh...I suppose it is supposed to hurt still. But it hurts when I do stupidly easy things like folding towels. It also hurts while typing and driving. The driving is a joke because really, Sam has to turn the key in the ignition and shift for me--but it still hurts to steer the damned thing.   So I asked the physical therapist this morning and he said I am doing things that are pulling or pushing... Well...in general mos

Alone

Alone   From childhood's hour I have not been As others were; I have not seen As others saw; I could not bring My passions from a common spring. From the same source I have not taken My sorrow; I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone; And all I loved, I loved alone. Then- in my childhood, in the dawn Of a most stormy life- was drawn From every depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still: From the torrent, or the fountain, From the red cliff of t
