November CSR Discussion Day: Hustle by Talo Segura

    By Cia

Wow, November already. With the year almost over, I wanted to keep featuring things that kept readers guessing and challenge the idea of the traditional reading genres and stories. What did you think of Hustle? Share your thoughts below, but first, the interview!! Chocolate or Vanilla? I have to cheat... both! What's your favorite room in your home? Do you plot or write there? I don't have a favourite room and I write where ever I find myself alone and not being disturbed, of

Weekly Wrap Up (Nov. 17 - Nov. 23)

    By wildone

Steve has climbed into his cave and don't wake him up until the end of April.  I think it it is @Slytherin's turn to stay awake this winter   That bear just happens to be the colour of outdoors.  We got dumped on the past week. No road lanes, no sidewalks, no nothing. All buried in snow. It is beautiful if you don't need to go out into it  Also, the temperature dropped into the minus celsius without windchill  Winter is here, I hereby declare. May you all share the wonder of it

eBook Review: Bratty Angel by Chris T. Kat

My rating: 4 of 5 stars   Today I'm featuring Chris T. Kat's newest release, Bratty Angel. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Okay, I don't have much to say about this book... except go buy it now! It's a great fantasy, with a mythological twist I really enjoyed. Good and evil aren't quite so clear cut in this tale. Nope, no siree. You find that out when you learn a hellhound and angel are hanging out. And the angel's harassing someone for some pleasure.   Reading this

What's worse than being stuck between a rock & a hard place?

The answer is being stuck between a bud and a bro.   There's something you might not know about Southern culture. In some ways we are almost Arabic.   Once we make friends, there's very little that can change that. We're loyal to an absolute fault even when it hurts and goes way past making any sense. Why sure Butch, I'll follow you over that cliff.     There is one place that I absolutely hate to be: in between people I care about in a controversy.   I literally don't know how to han

The Class of '05 Rides Again. (200th Entry- Wow-hoo!)

I just got invited to my 10-year high school reunion. Oh my god, I can't believe it went by that fast. 19 just feels a couple of years ago. Does this mean I'll be 39 before I know it?   Anyway, here are four tunes I associate with my senior prom. (We're actually having our reunion at the same place, apparently. That'll be a trip.)   "Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing   Prom theme. 80's nostalgia was riding high in 2005. They played this on the fake red carpet they set up in front of my s

My Love/Hate Gym Relationship

I love the gym. Its the place I go at the end of my day where I expend the last bit of energy I have and it never fails to leave me on a high when I'm finished. It has given me a focus and discipline like few things have ever given me before at times when I sorely needed it. It has done wonders to my own self-confidence and body image and given me more social confidence, and not to mention helped get me laid more than I thought I would ever get. So what the fuck is there to dislike about somethi

2015 Academy Awards Predictions by BarricadeBoy

THE 2015 ACADEMY AWARDS PREDICTIONS DONE BY BARRICADEBOY   For the first time, I will be predicting the winners of the 2015 Oscars. I haven’t watched all of them so my predictions will be based on Oscar buzz and award season results but mostly who I think will take the prize this coming Sunday night. Some categories are missing like foreign language and documentary because I did not see ANY of the nominees and I did not want to guess a winner.     BEST PICTURE: Boyhood

Reflecting on my decisions - Two years later

Most of you don't remember me when I used to write and beta on a regular basis. However, since the majority of my friends and family don't know much about me - and I'm trying to figure out a delicate balance between keeping my mother happy by not blasting "my unacceptable lifestyle" (trust me, this is a separate issue way too complicated for one single blog post) and keeping my boyfriend happy - I wrote a section of this as a Facebook note, and promptly deleted before posting.   Two years ago,

My Favorite 10 SNL Skits

In honor of SNL's 40th anniversary, I thought I'd post my favorite 10 sketches.   10.) To Love, Honor, and Stalk: The Gillian Woodward Story   Senator John McCain kills it as the "personal space infringer" in this 2002 skit of Lifetime movie parodies.   It is such a dead-on parody of Lifetime movies. I've watched plenty of those.   9.) Schmitt's Gay   Two guys get the best (gay) surprise of their life when they house-sit.   This one made me tingle in ways I didn't quite understand a

Ghosts

Do book websites help?

I am a first time author and am looking for some help. I have created a website for my new book (my first one), Skeletons Of A Murder. I would like to have users go to the website http://www.skeletonsofamurder.info and read the Home page, the Prolog page, and the others if interested. Let me know what you think. Does the site generate any interest in reading the book? Is the site organized in such a manner as to be easy to use? Does any page need additions, deletions, corrections? Does reviewing

endless circles

I've tried to write this so many times, and keep deleting it. I really don't know how to say what's on my mind. My brother, R, wasn't feeling well at the end of October, but our sister, M, thought he could wait until he saw the specialist in December. I spoke with M before thanksgiving when she wanted one of our dad's recipes. I suggested getting R to a doctor then, but she felt it could wait until the specialist visit in December. The appointment with the specialist was January not ea

answers to a quiz

I posted a little quiz in a status update. Here are the answers, and thanks for looking.     Original question: A little game – can you name two of the ways in which W. S. Gilbert (as in Gilbert and Sullivan fame) changed and contributed to everyday English? One is a two-word expression he coined, and the other has a definite Gay connection!     Answer one: Two word expression = "hardly ever." It all has to do with seasickness. In H.M.S. Pinafore, the chorus of sailors takes umbrage at the

My Backyard Adventure

I have only been out of the house once since January 27th, the date of winter storm Juno, aka. The Boston Blizzard. I made three trips to various stores and groceries the day before in order to stock up on supplies so that I could tuck-in and wait things out. Things went well, my supplies lasted quite a long time. My first journey out was to the grocery again, fresh produce was my target, and in that goal I was successful. The journey allowed me to marvel at the mountains of snow at intersection

It Doesn't Have to be Pretty, When it's True

People tell me I write beautiful things, wonderful things, adorable things. And I hope this is all true. But I also write awful things, painful things, terrible things. And these are true too.   There tends to be a lot of discussions about what makes good writing, and so often I find myself coming back to that immortal phrase "Write what you know." I might not have grown up in the hayfields of Texas, or ridden in the rodeo, or fallen desperately in love with a beautiful girl in the back of a t

What is the Best Move for White?

Click "Read Full Entry," below, to view the illustration. In this ten-minute blitz game, I played the White pieces against a New Zealander of a similar rating as mine. Black is just two moves away from resigning. What is my next move? The answer is below. In this game, as usual, I played the Drunken Knight. My opponent adhered to Classical principles by opting for a strong center occupied by pawns, while I went the hypermodern route. The board above displays the f

No More Computer Viruses

I've been fighting viruses all my life. As a kid, I got cold viruses. As a young man, friends died or got sick from the HIV virus. Now, my friends get computer viruses. These are good people, intelligent, creative types that have their computer taken away from them by a malicious trick played by lowlife scum. I hate viruses and I hate virus writers because of what I have seen happen to my friends and family.   To my knowledge, my computers are virus-free. I only say to my knowledge, because on

abusive relationships part. 2- Red Flags

Abusers isolate you from family and friends.   Abusers abuse you and make you think it's your fault.   Abusers cheat and then they are insanely jealous. All to often they don't even acknowledge your relationship.   They will use you.   Abusers use sex to reward and punish.   The problem with abusive relationships is that they only get worse.   Cops see this crap everyday and hate it. They get called out to the same house or apartment break up a fight where someone is obviously

Dabeagle's "Everything's Jake" and abusive relationships

Occasionally a story will come along that goes beyond just being good and becomes important. Dabegle's Everything's Jake is one of those stories. It rather graphically illustrates how gay teens and young adults can wake up and find themselves in abusive relationships.   No one that I've ever met just decides one day hot damn, where can I find someone to abuse me every day? Abusive relationships happen to gay and straight young people every day and none of them are looking for it.   There is

Another real-life theme to use in medical stories!

Britain approved 3 person IVF‏.         In this process they'd remove "faulty" mitochondrial DNA from a cell and replace it with mitochondrial DNA from a donor female egg to help reduce genetic diseases before implantation. Examples of "curable" mitochondrial genetic diseases: Diabetes mellitus and deafness, blindness, multiple sclerosis-type diseases, some epilepsy, liver disease, heart disease... The mitochondrial DNA doesn't affect genetic information like hair and eye color, personality

My "Heart" Songs Playlist

These tunes are basically what I'd consider the core of my heart. They're tunes I can't ever get sick of. Check 'em out.   "Heart Songs"   1.   2.   3.   4.   5. (1997 live version)  6. "   7.   8.   9.   10.   The mass bulk of these songs are from the 1990's. Shocker. LOL   I've never come across a song that depicts youth in it's pure, beautiful form better than "1979" does. God, I can't tell you how much I love that song.

Moving forward, maybe

Yesterday was bittersweet. My sister sent me a text to write our older brother's obit. She had wanted to do it, but a crisis with her adult children interfered. It was also my younger brother's 37th birthday.   The obit was simple, we had a max of 4 lines. XXX, 51, of XXX passed away on January 24, 2015 at UPMC. He is survived by 3 sisters and one brother. Preceded in death by both parents and 1 sister.   Very sad summation of nearly 52 years.   It says nothing of the boy I remember: The b
