timmy's poetry - 21. Morning After Poetry

If you have read these in a forum, no need to comment. I just want to keep them published.

Some morning after poems:

1.

You lay me down and hold me there

with a look and spoken word

breaking them i wouldn't dare

nor my vows of obedience

Your power and strength sings to me

in submission i answer

for you and i are symbiotic

together in this dynamic waltz

2.

my love for you is a spreading oak

with roots deep to hold us steady

happiness each budding leaf

opening when its ready

3.

Often I write of depression as fog

Or a place with walls you can’t climb

Deep and dark, it’s a lonely berth

I face it with useless weapons

4.

Exhaustion will finally take its toll

Restless sleep will be filled with ghosts

Of a past that’s ever nipping my heels

Waiting for me to stumble or slip

It’s a monster bigger than I can know

With a sucking maw ever open

Patiently waiting for me to fall

And oblivion will then take me

I find the images and metaphor released in number 2 to be very powerful in my mind. Ursula LeGuin wrote about oaks, memorably, and so have you. Number 4 tells us of hurt and being spent, of a darkness few can understand, even as you and those who care for you fight it. Number 3 is part and parcel of this, and its simple eloquence is chilling all the more for it. Number 1 recalls the love which anchors you, and which calls to the reader even as one progresses into darkness. Beautiful and eloquent.

What a stunning little collection, and I know they come from the heart. I also know they deal with rough emotions, so hugs for that.

Several before me have singled it out too, but I'm touched and blown away the oak tree poem. The form is a perfect complement to the message, as each line decreases by exactly one syllable as it steps down - like the roots mentioned. This is a nature poem even a great Nature master like Basho would be proud to call his own.

Very well done. Your poetry always achieves so much.
