Disasters, Delights and Other Detours - 35. Simple Thanks

I wish a Happy Thanksgiving to anyone and everyone.

I lift my voice in fulsome thanks

for blessings in their serried ranks;

pink fingered dawn, the forest bird,

my lover’s kiss and muscled flanks.

No friend will pass without some word

of gratitude for love conferred

by gentle hugs from near or far

which amity and kindness stirred.

My heart will praise the evening star,

the scent of Uncle Rob’s cigar,

late autumn feasts where yarns unfold,

and tunes arise from Dad’s guitar.

And even though I’m grey and old,

still I am grateful, truth be told,

for simple gifts not saved in banks,

but far more valuable than gold.

I offer you my deep thanks for reading.

If I equate what I have read to the progress of a meal, this poem is like the warming snifter of brandy in my hand. Mature, mellow and yet well equipped to be piquant, it's a worthy end to a rhetorical feast.

Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, and you really have become a master at the Rubaiyat form. It's an inspiration

Your kind words warm me like the brandy you mentioned. They leave a lovely trail straight to my heart. I’m very grateful you read and enjoyed this.
