Reckoning - 32. Chapter 32
Adam showered in an open space, working like a waterfall. Patrick prepared a bath for him in the in-ground bath tube. When the water touched his skin, the pain from the night before came rushing at him. He kept his ache to himself, not wanting to worry Patrick.
“Adam your bath is ready.”
“Thanks.” Adam shut off the water, grabbing a towel. The wide room didn’t look like a bathroom, at least not one he’d been to. He crossed the granite floor to the tub where he found Patrick half submerged. “Well, I wasn’t expecting this.”
“Want me to get out?”
“You wouldn’t make it past me.”
“Then climb in so I can—comfort you.”
Adam stepped down and settled beside Patrick in front of a picture window view of a water garden. “This is nice.”
“I’m glad you like it,” Patrick said, grabbing two bath booms and dropping them into the water. “This will help your sour muscles.”
“I know something else that will help.” Adam moved towards him, but stopped when Patrick placed his hands on his chest.
“First, I want to apologize.”
“You have nothing to apologize for. I shouldn’t have compared you to AJ. I understand your concern about my safety.”
“Adam, I almost lost you.”
Adam pulled Patrick closer. “Nothing would ever keep me from you. That’s why I come here. I wanted to be by your side when your father grilled you.”
“You did?”
“Yeah, we’re in this together.”
“We are, aren’t we?”
They embraced, and as Adam’s hands moved over Patrick’s body, a knock came to the door. Both sighed their frustration as Adam answered.
“Yes.”
“Mr. Potter?”
“It’s Carlos,” Patrick whispered.
Adam held his finger up to his lips for him to be quiet. “Yes?”
“Mr. Valdez needs to speak to you about the accident. He said it’s urgent.”
Adam’s head fell back, then looked at Patrick.
“It could be important,” Patrick said.
“Yeah, okay. I’ll be right out,” he called.
“He’ll see you in the garage. Young Valdez can show you the way.”
Adam jerked his head to the door as Patrick laughed. “You find that funny?”
“He already knew I was in here.”
