Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

lyrics

Written as lyrics for Mendelssohn's Song without Words, Op.30, No. 3 in E Major. Some recapitulation is necessary to accommodate the couplet. Listen while you read.       Sonnet No. 113 [November 13th, 2013 – 7:10 am]   Mendelssohn wrote his lovely Songs without Words, Where harmony alone carries content – And this vibe from a cold sleep came by thirds To wake with its pulse by ardent intent. Sometimes feeling alone is the message, And word following word just lets it flow; Like

Wow... the next to last CSR for 2013. I can't say how much I've appreciated the readers who stuck with our book club and have helped keep it going this year. This month we have a great review from Renee Stevens about And0grene's story, The House Always Wins. Share your thoughts about the story.   Don't forget to suggest a story for December!! The House Always Wins by Andr0gene   Review by Renee Stevens   Before I became a beta reader for Andr0gene, I first read his stor

Swimming

Sunday afternoons are for swimming. I’ve been swimming ever since I can remember. When I was 18 months old, my father went to Vietnam and my mother moved back in with her parents, taking me with her. They had just relocated to Florida and their home backed up onto the intracoastal waterway. They docked their boat at the back of their house along a floating dock that would rise and fall with the tides.   All this was, of course, blocked off to me, a curious toddler with an uneven walk but a wic

Renunciation

My beloved didn’t answer my prayer I tried all my usual tricks I dried my tears at his feet I covered my head in my shame and walked away   Finally understood what it is to lose, to a pretty face An uncaring smile and those ravishing eyes Snuffed out my soft ambers’ austere plea My beloved didn’t look back   ©asamvav111

Catching Fire- My Thoughts (Spoilers)

I'll start out with my disappointments.   I really hated that they took out Johanna's "I don't care if you are knocked out, I'll rip your throat out" line, as well as the Second Quarter Quell. I was expecting that they would take them out, but I was hoping I was wrong. I think they should have kept in the foreshadowing about District 13 somewhere- I get why they cut out Bonnie and Twill, but they should have found another way to foreshadow them. I think they should've put in a little more abou

a falling leaf...

Sonnet No. 104 [November 7th, 2013 – 10:52 pm]   The other night, when you teased me and went to bed, Did you really think I'd prefer my TV show, And not trail you to where your pettish footsteps led? – Oh no, from the bedroom doorway I watched you go, And settle yourself like a leaf upon the sheets; One moment, eyes to the light, the next gliding down, For every inch your body a graceful arc meets When your head finally makes my pillow your crown. But, it was the smile that you turn

Touched

Ever stopped to wonder why some people leave an indelible mark on our lives?   It is something that I ponder often.   Take for example JFK. 50 years ago this week, a president that has in so many ways touched all of our lives, be us from a generation that were there at the time, or children of today's generation, he is a man that stood out in our world as a special man.   Was he perfect? Far from it. In fact, if you listen to the in depth analysis of his life as a man, he was pretty much

Biphobia

Disgusted cat is disgusted.     Biphobia.   What a strange word.   So bisexuality actually never has been a huge topic of interest to me (ironic since I identify as bisexual), but since I've started to become more open about my preferences I've seem to be meeting more and more people who find the concept confusing, controversial, and even highly offensive. When I started dating, I was actually really surprised at the number of people who doubted the very existence of my sexuality.   I'v

"I've Got the Blues" Tale of the Day

So, here's what happened to me. I worked a retail job for the Holidays last year. This year, I was told by the same retail job at the Holiday job fair that I would get to come back and do the seasonal job again. I came in a week later and asked to leave a message with the person who told me I was hired, but then they never got back to me.   Lo and behold, I came in today to find out what was going on and they told me that (shocker) I wasn't hired. They told me some bullshit excuse about

Not in This Lifetime

So, I just found out my grandson is being bullied. My daughter's roommate said some of his neighbors were calling him a faggot. No, not happening. My hubby went ballistic, and I am livid. Kyle is kinda passive because he's been told not to fight. My hubby just told him the next time this airhead called him a faggot or fairy to knock the hell out of him. "not because of the names, but the principle"   Kyle is so sweet, and very protective of friends. He took up for a boy at school the other da

Starting to write again and some details on my Holiday Theme entry

I know, it's been only two weeks, but I had to stop writing as I wanted to create a few degrees of separation between my fiction and my dream world. I have stopped dreaming about President Obama's assassination, which is a relief (Unless, it comes true, but I am not Christopher Walken )   Today marks the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination, so I will give the man his due and a moment of silence as a fellow New Englander...   Writing As for my writing schedule, Causality will probably g

November 22, 1963

For the current generation 9/11 was when in a sense they lost their innocence. For my father's generation December 7, 1941 was when their world changed. For my generation November 22, 1963 was the shock that changed our world.   I was in highschool and it was the first period after lunch and the subject was English when my generation's world was changed. Suddenly the intercom speaker over which all school announcements was made came on playing our local CBS radio affiliate KMOX and then we

Apple Picking

Sonnet No. 105 [November 8th, 2013 – 7:54 am]   Bundled in grayness, clouds become your coat – You step out into the autumn's day and Cast eyes skyward; tug a scarf 'round your throat – For here conserved warmth takes the season's stand. I love to see you prepped, just like a child, Going out for a day of harvest work, With clothes rigid, but with expression mild, For apple-picking time we must not shirk. And later, with our fruit and our labor, Sweet cinnamon will lace our pies and

Writing Prompts #280 & #281

Here we are again, another Friday. Where has this year gone? Well, looking at the calendar it is now late November, and the Americans are heading toward Thanksgiving. (Sorry, the Canadians have already had theirs and I don't mean to slight them, but I am horrible keeping up with everyone's holidays.) However, no matter where you might be it's getting close to the holidays and time with family. With that in mind you might have a reason to be thankful, for the close-knit ties, or maybe for not bei

Unfinished/Unrehearsed

So I got some good news today   I've been commissioned to create a short piece for a performance festival in February I'm beyond excited.   Only problem is xD I need to actually write the show in two weeks. so i can do a scratch performance before christmas lol   I'm screwed. LOL   The title of the blog is because of my two shows coming up   Unfinished explores what we see and what we don't see in our every day lives. It is a non walking promenade game (promenade is walking theatre)

Why I Suck at NaNoWriMo

When I write a short story, I usually sit down and write until I'm done. Then I go back, revise, edit, remove stuff, add stuff, read it out loud to myself, fix every minor thing in the dialogue, and then, when I'm happy with it, I'll send it to a beta or an editor, or both. That is my process.   When I write a novel, I can't just write until I'm done. I'll write a chapter, go back and read it, polish it, add stuff and take stuff out. Then I'll move on and write the next bit, and maybe

How to Cook a Turkey

Ok, so its holiday season coming up, and of course for all our American friends, they'll be doing the traditional turkey in a week or so, and for the rest of us, come christmas, we'll be catching up with our own celebration of bird flesh.   So figured I'd share my recipe for a smashing Turkey Roast.   HOW TO COOK A TURKEY.   Step 1. Buy a turkey. Step 2. Have a glass of wine. Step 3. Stuff turkey. Step 4. Have a glass of wine. Step 5. Put turkey in the oven. Step 6. Relax and h

To be soon (in about 6 months) 85 years old

The older I get, the more days goes by quickly. People of my age, at least the ones I know well, are all very busy. In 1948 (65 years ago ! ) We were 148 to finish our high school and to successfully pass our exams. Today nearly a hundred disappeared. We, the "survivors", we usually meet us each autumn at a luncheon in the Geneva countryside. 3 weeks ago, we were 25 around the table and 22 bothered to send us a letter of apology, stating that they were still alive, even though they were often n

Hibernation can suck

Whoa. How long has it been since I have sat down to tap on the keyboard to write a blog???   Too damn long if I am honest. So, yeah, I kind of fell off the face of the planet for a while. Actually still not totally in control of things for that matter, but as they go, there is not an awful lot of difference I can make to anything, other than keep the old chin (actually all three of them haha) up and plod on.   Medically I was dealt a blow a number of months back. Never a good thing to h

Featured Story: Endings And Beginnings

It's time for another featured story! This week, Lisa was kind enough to provide us with a review of "Endings and Beginnings" by Viv, one of our Hosted Author's here at GA! Not only did she provide us a Hosted Review, but she also provided us with what could be considered a "Blast From the Past", so in essence, it's a two for one! We're always looking for reviews to feature in the blog, so if you've been reading a story that you would like to review for the blog, please PM me! Now, without any m
