Not in This Lifetime

So, I just found out my grandson is being bullied. My daughter's roommate said some of his neighbors were calling him a faggot. No, not happening. My hubby went ballistic, and I am livid. Kyle is kinda passive because he's been told not to fight. My hubby just told him the next time this airhead called him a faggot or fairy to knock the hell out of him. "not because of the names, but the principle"   Kyle is so sweet, and very protective of friends. He took up for a boy at school the other da

Starting to write again and some details on my Holiday Theme entry

I know, it's been only two weeks, but I had to stop writing as I wanted to create a few degrees of separation between my fiction and my dream world. I have stopped dreaming about President Obama's assassination, which is a relief (Unless, it comes true, but I am not Christopher Walken )   Today marks the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination, so I will give the man his due and a moment of silence as a fellow New Englander...   Writing As for my writing schedule, Causality will probably g

November 22, 1963

For the current generation 9/11 was when in a sense they lost their innocence. For my father's generation December 7, 1941 was when their world changed. For my generation November 22, 1963 was the shock that changed our world.   I was in highschool and it was the first period after lunch and the subject was English when my generation's world was changed. Suddenly the intercom speaker over which all school announcements was made came on playing our local CBS radio affiliate KMOX and then we

Writing Prompts #280 & #281

Here we are again, another Friday. Where has this year gone? Well, looking at the calendar it is now late November, and the Americans are heading toward Thanksgiving. (Sorry, the Canadians have already had theirs and I don't mean to slight them, but I am horrible keeping up with everyone's holidays.) However, no matter where you might be it's getting close to the holidays and time with family. With that in mind you might have a reason to be thankful, for the close-knit ties, or maybe for not bei

Unfinished/Unrehearsed

So I got some good news today   I've been commissioned to create a short piece for a performance festival in February I'm beyond excited.   Only problem is xD I need to actually write the show in two weeks. so i can do a scratch performance before christmas lol   I'm screwed. LOL   The title of the blog is because of my two shows coming up   Unfinished explores what we see and what we don't see in our every day lives. It is a non walking promenade game (promenade is walking theatre)

Why I Suck at NaNoWriMo

When I write a short story, I usually sit down and write until I'm done. Then I go back, revise, edit, remove stuff, add stuff, read it out loud to myself, fix every minor thing in the dialogue, and then, when I'm happy with it, I'll send it to a beta or an editor, or both. That is my process.   When I write a novel, I can't just write until I'm done. I'll write a chapter, go back and read it, polish it, add stuff and take stuff out. Then I'll move on and write the next bit, and maybe

How to Cook a Turkey

Ok, so its holiday season coming up, and of course for all our American friends, they'll be doing the traditional turkey in a week or so, and for the rest of us, come christmas, we'll be catching up with our own celebration of bird flesh.   So figured I'd share my recipe for a smashing Turkey Roast.   HOW TO COOK A TURKEY.   Step 1. Buy a turkey. Step 2. Have a glass of wine. Step 3. Stuff turkey. Step 4. Have a glass of wine. Step 5. Put turkey in the oven. Step 6. Relax and h

To be soon (in about 6 months) 85 years old

The older I get, the more days goes by quickly. People of my age, at least the ones I know well, are all very busy. In 1948 (65 years ago ! ) We were 148 to finish our high school and to successfully pass our exams. Today nearly a hundred disappeared. We, the "survivors", we usually meet us each autumn at a luncheon in the Geneva countryside. 3 weeks ago, we were 25 around the table and 22 bothered to send us a letter of apology, stating that they were still alive, even though they were often n

Hibernation can suck

Whoa. How long has it been since I have sat down to tap on the keyboard to write a blog???   Too damn long if I am honest. So, yeah, I kind of fell off the face of the planet for a while. Actually still not totally in control of things for that matter, but as they go, there is not an awful lot of difference I can make to anything, other than keep the old chin (actually all three of them haha) up and plod on.   Medically I was dealt a blow a number of months back. Never a good thing to h

Featured Story: Endings And Beginnings

It's time for another featured story! This week, Lisa was kind enough to provide us with a review of "Endings and Beginnings" by Viv, one of our Hosted Author's here at GA! Not only did she provide us a Hosted Review, but she also provided us with what could be considered a "Blast From the Past", so in essence, it's a two for one! We're always looking for reviews to feature in the blog, so if you've been reading a story that you would like to review for the blog, please PM me! Now, without any m

Weekly Wrap Up!

Wow! What a week it has been here at GA! For those who didn't know, on Thursday, the site moved to a new server! I'm sure I'm not alone in thanking those who worked on making the move go as seamlessly as possible. Hopefully the move to the new server will help keep the site from bogging down due to the high amount of traffic it gets during the day! While I know this is the "Weekly Wrap Up", I also wanted to give a heads up to look out for a new feature coming to the blog this upcoming week. I do

Notorious professor

So there is this class at my university and there is only one professor that teaches it. Everyone I have spoken with has had terrible reviews for him because of his incomprehensible method of teaching, the exam curve balls, the grading scheme and that he seems to enjoy giving bad grades. I know of someone who had a 4.0 GPA and got a DC (equivalent to C-). I think the class average for last semester was 37%. The students who took it last semester filed a formal complaint through student governmen

An incredibly sad weekend

This weekend was particularly sad for me, but to understand just how sad and why, I have to go back a little.   First of all, I want to tell you about my dog. She came to us 13 years ago as the runt of the litter, and right from the start she seemed to have a charisma about her. She was also a born nurse. Just after she arrived as a puppy, I got sick and had to go back to my mum to recover, and the whole time I was there she never left my side. She cuddled right into me when my fever was

Ending the Cycle

I found this somewhere.. I think it's really good. Since I was abused this resonates with me..   "I made this for folks like me, many of whom are still living with shame, guilt, and fear (many of the responses I've received have mentioned similar suicide pacts). I'm aiming to get this out into the public consciousness, because while most facts people know actually come from hearing them in stories, updated information takes decades to filter back into new stories, as most writers cover the sam

A quick update

Life has a way of going forward, even when we might be frozen and not paying attention. Please forgive me for being a bit out of it lately.   I try my best not to let my daily life keep from doing the things I love or the things that are important to me. However, sometimes the daily life overwhelms everything else.   I'll start with my father. Tuesday he went in for surgery on two aneurysms that have been growing for over ten years. His doctor stated that most people who have this happen wit

eBook Review: Bad Idea by Damon Suede

Bad Idea by Damon Suede My rating: 4 of 5 stars   This was my first Damon Suede eBook. I'm a tad torn on the review and hopefully this won't come off as a bad review. I have to say I enjoyed the story. Trip and Silas were well fleshed out characters and their motivations were easy to see and understand. The plot was arced well and fit together seamlessly. The supporting characters, especially the women, blended together a bit for me and I'd have liked to see more character definition and quirk

Still having those dreams and now I know what next friday marks!

Fuck, this is starting to go down Twilight Zone territory. I am still having those dreams and it is getting more vivid. I also just read what next Friday marks; it's too much of a coincidence that I am getting these dreams now.   Next Friday marks the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's Assassination.   I will admit, I am dreaming that someone is going to assassinate President Obama. In my dream, it is someone disenfranchised by the recent Great Recession, who is part of the underemploye

Wacky Wednesday: Interview With Totallyy

You might know Totallyy from chat or *coughs* his very colorful gallery pictures, but today's blog is all about his author side! Read on to learn what Ashi found out motivates one of GA's newer authors. Interview with Totallyy   Interviewer: Ashi   Totallyy is one of my favorite authors on GA. His writing is concise, and each of his word delivers a lot of punch than its initial impression. Some use of words are very poetic, and may require some deeper work on readers' part, but a coup

Fear

FEAR ITSELF IS ONE THING BUT DEATH IS SO MUCH WORSE   As I write this tears stream from my eyes, the memory burns so painfully in my head. That bright spark, that role model that number one gone like a flash. seven years of hate how I regret it that much, not being there and disbelieving. Now death has come and taken all that away, the death of a loved one is something, but the death of two loved one in a matter of second is something else. My grandma the only person I could call a role model
