Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

A Phone Call Can Change Your Life

The last six or seven weeks of my life has been full of chaos and turmoil, some good, some bad. Death knocked on the family's door, happiness greeted some, and a phone call just turned my life upside down.   My hubby and I acutually sold our house and a guest house in the worst housing market ever five years ago just to be within fifty miles of my daughter and grandson. Don't get me wrong. We would not have had it any other way. They were use to having us close, and we were certainly used to h

The Ravens Win the Super Bowl

How incredibly awesome was that moment? Let me tell you, I have been breaking out in smiles randomly since yesterday.   I started the night watching the game at Grotto's Pizza, during that first amazing half by the Ravens. People there were just going wild. I even got photograped by an area magazine- I was wearing my Flacco Delaware 5 jersey, and I was standing next to a guy wearing a Flacco 5 shirt, and it was pretty cool. They took a photo of us reacting to one of the touchdowns.

A story idea or too outlandish?

I just got an idea last night about a story set in Hollywood California about a special agency that works for the big studios.   Sounds simple and easy enough, but here's the twist, they aren't the standard movie star agents, deal breakers, or Entourage-like groups that make people smile. These people are there to dig dirty secrets of the stars or even create them.   They would be the one's behind the curtain, filming sex tapes, getting movie stars into compromising situations, arranging dru

Superbowl... you mean that was today?

I try not to get upset or bent out of shape, but today was really screwed up.   On Friday I left work all excited. I had Saturday off and I was opening Sunday. I really don't follow football, yeah my brother thinks I'm daft but when did the Jets last win? Anyway for me the Superbowl simply means I get to see friends, eat, and have fun. Right?   I got to work early to find the schedule I had was wrong and had been completely rewritten. I was now closing instead. Needless to say I didn't eve

When Imagination Moves Me

I haven't written on my blog for a while. Several reasons for that. I've been working on a piece for my personal blog, one I've been doing for a fair amount of time, and been thinking it through much. Work has been pretty hectic to be fair.   I been able to catch up on some reading this week too. It is some of this which I choose to write about today, and pay tribute to some of the amazing talent that comes freely to us here on GA.   Each of us has something that makes a story, book, narrati

A little local Massachusetts politics

Sometimes, I think Democrats overreact too quickly before they consider everyone else. Republicans fall into the same on a national level as well.   http://www.wbur.org/2013/02/02/democrats-3                 The humor was that Democrats were preparing for Scott Brown to run again for Senate, because he had the best chances of winning. Everything was set to take down the Republican front man, but Scott Brown hadn't even decided to enter the fight again.   I applaud Scott Brown for n

Weekly Wrap Up!

So as we end January and enter February, we started the week with our first wrap up for our Can't Stop Reading Book Club with Discussion Day. If you've read January's CSR book, Memories of Forgotten Love, by Nephylim, you can still head to the discussion in the link above to give your thoughts on this great work.   For Wacky Wednesday, Yettie One continued his monthly Pulse Behind the GA Crowd, with an interview of KingdombytheSea. It is fantastic to get to know a little bit more about one of

Writing Prompts #206 & #207

"It's me again, Margaret!" No, I'm not quite that old but my Dad controlled the TV growing up. For you young'uns, maybe this will prompt you to google it; the man was funny! Okay, so this week I'm bringing you two more great prompts from our resident flash fiction guru man, Comicfan and a prompt selection from a new GA Author, Wicked Witch!   First, our dose of weekly inspiration:   Prompt 206 – Creative Tag – The Dance There is a long standing story that if any of the fairy folk ask you to

Scottish independence?

Bad news: this has had to be moved from The Lounge Good news: you can now say what you like     Next year Scottish residents will get to vote in a referendum on whether Scotland should become an independent country. For this process to work you have to have an appropriate question. One that is simple to understand and neutrally worded.   Responsibility for coming up with a suitable wording was delegated to an independent body, the Electoral Commission, and has been accepted by the UK and

The Last Grand Master is Published

Today my newest book - The Last Grand Master is released by Dreamspinner Press. For those who've followed me, you know what it is, but here's a bit more for those who don't know.   Last year Myr asked me to write something for the Premium Content sections of GA. I did. It was titled Chosen of Honorus and it is still available in Premium - always will be. After it finished posting, I was able to shop it to a publisher and Dreamspinner Press bought the book. They renamed it The Last Grand Master

Wacky Wednesday - Pulse Behind The Ga Crowd

I'd like to thank Yettie One for his regular feature here at the GA News Blog - the Pulse Behind the GA Crowd. This month, he gives us a great interview with KingdombytheSea. Enjoy!   Pulse behind the GA Crowd by Yettie One       In the tail end of December I managed to pin KingdomByTheSea down while she was in Costa Rica (lucky fish) and grill her about her time here on GA. For me this proved to be an interesting insight into a long standing member of GA and the self published writer Sa

Decluttering

So every once in awhile, I get into a mode of getting rid of stuff that I have, whether it's old clothes I never wear anymore, books I no longer want to read, or newspaper articles that I once saved but decided to get rid of.   I'm in that mode right now...I'm selling off my old books from college(Don't worry, I saved the books I really love), and I went through my old newspaper collection(stuff saved from 1998 all the way up to 2008)...I'm probably going to look at my clothes at some point, a

I miss my old GA/Writing Life

Back in July '10 when I joined GA I had these 'dreams' for my writing life. I wanted to get get better, write more and one day get published. I suppose I believed the last part wasn't a pipe dream, but a part me also expected to get shot down by the readers here and told, 'yeah, you need a lot of work.' So fast forward two and a half years and I've been fortunate to say the least. One book out, one book due out in three days, and a third July. The GA readers have been extremely generous with

Show Every Human Flaw in Your Story

When I read, sometimes I have some internal dialogues for various reasons. Today the internal dialogue I had was about how much information is too much information (no, I am not talking about my daily ritual, thank you very much). At which point should I, as a writer, get my hand off.   Whether it was when I was in my business training or when I was writing some programs (yes, Ashi was some sort of a computer nerd long times ago), one of the things I learned in those disciplines was trying to

Csr (Can't Stop Reading) - Discussion Day On Memories Of Forgotten Love

First - thanks MUST go to Cia for coming up with concept and the legwork to make this happen.   Well, that wraps up the reading time for the first story of the GA Can't Stop Reading Book Club! Hope everyone enjoyed the story Memories of Forgotten Love by Nephylim. Now, before we get into the discussion, Renee contacted Nephy and asked her to give us her thoughts on the story. What gave her the idea in the first place? So to start off this discussion, let's here what Nephy has to say!   **SP

Friends...

So over the last couple of days I had been corresponding with this guy through my tumblr page. Turns out he lives about 20 - 30 minutes west of me, not far at all. We were writing back and forth via tumblr and last night and today it has turned into text message city. We have sent countless text and the strange thing is how much in common we have. It feels like we are long lost friends. He is very easy to converse with and we have been joking back and forth. We've traded picture's and he is all

Weekly Wrap Up!

REMINDER: The first discussion day for our brand new GA book club, called the "Can't Stop Reading" (or CSR) Book Club, is this Monday, January 28th. Nephylim's Memories of Forgotten Love is a fantastic read that even if you haven't started yet, once you start, you'll not be able to put it down until you're done and so you'll easily be ready for Monday's discussion. Give it a try so you can join us on Monday!   For this past week, we started with a great review by Radiant Renee Stevens of No St

Venting and Such

So my new class has started and I already hate every bit of it which is never a good way to kick things off. It’s an advanced 2D animation class and I figured out years back that 2D was not a style that I preferred, but this is a core class and the last 2D class I have to take for my major. The plus is that my classes are only five and a half weeks, the drawback to that though is that they are a very intensive five and a half weeks and the teacher is picky as hell about every little thing and t

New tick borne infections identified

One of the most nasty and difficult to treat persistent infections is Lyme Disease. It is caused by bacteria spread by the deer tick. There really no sense in running away. The damn things are everywhere.   the deer tick, geneus Ixodes   the "bull eye" pattern that appears soon after a tick bite that is common in lyme cases   Lyme disease is pretty nasty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyme_disease). Strange things in life

I will leave this blog short for now, but I think I need to write something. A short story is now in my head that cannot be removed. I don't know if it is the right thing to do or the wrong thing, but I have to write out and play it in my mind.   Hope my favorite editor NNN is still up to the challenge.   The Big Squeeze is still being written, so don't worry, I haven't abandoned that story.
