Weekly Wrap Up (Jan. 5 - Jan. 11)

    By wildone

First a disclaimer, I'm tired and none of me editors are around to read the wrap up for me   I hate to say but the first couple of weeks have been terrible for our US friends and neighbours it seems. With LA burning down and the east and southeast getting blasted by ice and snow, I have to say I hope that all of them are okay  I'm sure there is other places too that are having strange and wakey weather too, like Friday we had an actual thunderstorm (rain) and a blizzard Saturday night. Here a beta, there a beta, think I'm nearly done a beta

Okay I fell behind. There is no other way to put it. I took on a few writers who all happened to have work for me at the same time and I fell apart. So now I am playing catch up.   For those who follow the writers I work with, I'm sorry. They aren't getting out because, well, I'm behind.   I'm nearly all caught up now. So look for a new story from Daniel shortly, and a few chapters in the Legacy story from Mark. Then I might be able to put my beta to work as i finally play catch up with Jon

A passing and remembering

Funny, my day this morning started so normal and I was feeling up. I was working back and forth between two beta projects. Finally getting things done. I took some time this afternoon to do a little food shopping, do some laundry and get myself ready for life.   This afternoon I signed in and then I seen it. KC's mom lost the battle and had passed away. I know too well what that is like. i can relate and sympathize with his loss. For each person that loss affects them differently. For some it

I'll start reading all the anthology stories this weekend

Too much hectic stuff happened this week and last weekend to allow me to read the stories. Sorry guys, but thanks to the few who took a chance and read my play.   You know real life stinks and my life in particular is hectic enough with drama and issues from everywhere. I know the job is disheartening, but I can't abandon everything and just leave, I've got obligations to everyone around me: Patients, Doctors, general staff, secretaries...I'm trying not to start a rant, just an update on my li

Writing Tip: Said-Bookisms

Today we have another very informative writing tip from Cia! Enjoy!!! Said-bookisms   I'm betting you have NO idea what a said-bookism is, do you? I know I didn't; I do know what the term means though, in a general sense. A said-bookism is a speech tag other than said or asked. Quite often they are used to describe the speech or the tone.   A few examples: He laughed She shrieked They intoned He smiled   Now, these are really common in usage, yet frowned upon more and more. A break at last

I think most of us get caught up in our lives from time to time. Mine has been a bit busier than I'd like and I have been unable to focus. It is something that happens to the best of us at one point or another.   For those following the odd bits and pieces of my life, Dad had his skin cancer removed last week and the doctor is happy with the way he is healing. My sister in law undergoes the biopsy on her throat cancer next Monday, after that is complete they will begin to figure out her treat

Writing Tip: Oops, It's Wrong... Or Is It?

Cia has done it again and written what I think is a fantastic writing tip. Check it out and see if you agree... Oops, it's wrong... or is it?   So many times I get confused by the complexities of English grammar, I'm sure many of you are the same. The rules are often contradictory, and the exceptions to exceptions are absolutely a quagmire of missteps and misspells waiting to trap you. I recently read an article that said to polish your writing skills, spend thirty minutes a month revi

ASB 2012

I just got back from a week in Tennessee, helping to build new paths for the Cumberland Trail. We stayed at a lodge in a small hole-in-the-wall called Soddy Daisy, with kids from schools all around the East Coast and Mid-West.   I can't put into words just how wonderful that experience was. I came into the trip expecting that we'd be putting down gravel and trimming weeds for some biking/cross-country trails. I had never hiked a day in my life, unless you count walking around flat Delaware
