Weekly Wrap Up (Jul. 12 - Jul. 18)

    By wildone

We had an interesting discussion last week with the Weekly Wrap Up. I see the weather has broke in some places and yet others is getting worse 😮  Up here in Canada, it is so hot and dry we are burning up. Over 1000 wildfires going on right now   I wouldn't go camping now unless it was on a river or lake shore.  So back to one of the parts of the camping theme, I mentioned about swimming. So if you never went camping, or you like 5 star service in a hotel or you camped on a lake or you

Absurdity

I wrote this poem the other day after watching about five minutes of 'America's Got Talent'. Hope you can relate.   ---------------------------- Absurdity   With curious gazes do we transfix Our eyes to things bizarre; O! how we know (or entertain) Ideas that are so far From things we maybe ought to think- Or also entertain But no heads turn, no gaze transfix Upon me or my name-   I am the invisible; the sensible; the good;

Trump: Another Look

I've been fascinated by this guy for some time.   You see I was around in 1992 when the evil midget H Ross Perot showed up, acted crazy and took the margin of victory away from Papa Bush. I was expecting the daffy billionaire with a bee in his bonnet to make a statement and then fadeaway.    When he won the republican primaries, I was surprised.   Trump out-republicaned republicans. Mainstream republicans like Cruz, Rubio and Paul were bulldozed.   When he

What scares me

The thing that scares me most is love. I'm scared because I love easily. I find someone I can connect to and within a week I feel love for that person. I've done this twice and both times that love was not returned. In fact the first time the other guy and I were planning to celebrate his birthday together. The day before I was to come over I tried texting him and he didn't reply as a matter of fact the message was never delivered. I then called his number and that's when my heart broke when the

Guero, in Memoriam

Before I begin, I just want to let you all know I'm trying to keep this blog happy and positive, despite the turmoil I'm experience today.     In the summer of 2007, my family at the time had only one pet, a cat, named Shata. While she was mostly an indoors kitty, she did like to go outside every now and then. And since our neighborhood had other cats roaming the street, it wasn’t a surprise when we found out one day that she was pregnant.   Funnily enough, just the year before, m

Unity and Pride

Something came across my Facebook feed recently that I thought I should share here.     At last year's Toronto Pride parade there were issues that many of you are aware of.  The end result of those issues had the Toronto Pride Committee banning uniformed police officers from participating in this year's Pride festivities.  (I won't even get into the irony of Pride Toronto still expecting the police to be there as security for the event.)  I have many acquaintances and friends who are e

#BCVotes postscript, Hunter's career palpitations

For those of you who read my #BCPoli election blog, thanks. It was fun, never doing it again.  This is a postscript for those of you who read through everything. The BC Liberals nominally won the election with 43 of 87 seats. However, the NDP won 41 seats and the BC Green Party won 3 seats, and they have agreed to a written accord (not a coalition, which is a formal governance agreement in Canada) whereby the NDP will govern with the tacit and supporting votes from the BC Greens to achieve

Wine of Wyoming

I’ve been reading a collection of Ernest Hemingway’s first forty-nine short stories and I finally came to “Wine of Wyoming.” I suppose it’s a nice short story, except for the French dialogue of which there is quite too much. Two of the characters in the story are from France and, of course, speak French quite a bit, even though much of it is broken. But, enough of it is illegible to someone who does not, nor never has, spoken the language of France, Quebec, French Guiana, and other foreign outpo

What's It Mean To Be Young & Free?

It was was Saturday night, and I was going to meet up with a few friends later that night. We didn't plan on meeting till around 11, but by 9:00 I was getting restless so I decided to head out early and start on my own. My first stop was at The Bike Stop, which is a VERY dimly lit leather/cruising bar hidden away in a back alley. It's one of those places where all kinds of stuff goes on in the dark corners. I have a drink and chit chat with the bartender, who I sort of know from the gym. He's a

Sneek Peek - The Pack

Ash didn’t like school much. Too many people, too many questions. He never had to go to school before, all the kids in his old pack had been home schooled. But Gwen and Lennox had insisted. They registered him under their name, told the school they were fostering him. At first Ash had resisted, flat out refused, but they thought it would do him good. He would be bored at home all day by himself anyways they had told him; the adults would be working and the rest of the kids were in school themsel

A Choice to be Made

There is no easy way to say this, but these last few days have been trying and absolutely overwhelming.   I, tried my best, to stay afloat, and go about my business as usual- like hanging out with my friends on GA and joking around with them. But, my god, it felt hollow this week.  There is a hole in my heart right now, and everything has simply gotten too much for me to handle.   GA no longer felt like my home away from home, so, I faced a grim choice concerning my future on

The DL Diaries 2006

This book belongs to Cole:   2006   Things with my living situation had changed. At this time only Skyler and I were living in the house. It was nice since now I had two rooms, one was my sleeping room while the other was my chill room. Kitty had moved out with her current boyfriend. He had been a not so nice guy to me and Skylar, but when she decided to move we still supported her. The good part about it being just me and Skyler was I had more privacy. Skyler was going back

The DL Diaries 2003

This book belongs to Cole:   2003   Once I graduated from high school I made the move from a small town to the city of Portland, Oregon. I have to admit at first I was scared and very nervous. It was hard to leave the life I had known for eighteen years. Only soon things would start to fall into place and I was more than excited. I had a feeling that my life was now starting to make some sort of sense. The first few days I kept my guard up. You have to when making a huge life

The Value of a Dollar

About twenty years ago I stopped at Tim Hortons to grab lunch.  I needed to go grocery shopping, but had to wait until payday and had five bucks to last the rest of the week.  A dollar went further then than it does now, which meant I had just enough to pay for some cheap groceries until I got paid.  It was very crowded due to it being "Camp Day", when they collect donations to send needy/ill children to summer camp.  There were several people with boxes collecting donations and a girl approache

Non-Binary

From the time I was old enough to choose my own clothes I preferred my brothers.   Baggy pants and t-shirts, long shorts, hoodies. My interests and hobbies were those that would be considered masculine; sports, action figures, super heroes, camping, hiking. I have a very distinct memory of playing Barbies and putting them in the jeep and pushing it down the stairs. My mother definitely thought it was odd. My preferred friends we're boys and my favorite cousins were boys.

Blog about a Dog

So here’s what’s new.   I’ve got a dog. A golden doodle or is it a labradoodle, I’m not sure, but my sister told me that it was big and hard and she must have known that I wouldn’t turn that down.   I wasn’t looking for a pet, but he was looking for a home to destroy and I just happened to have one available. The alternative for this poor creature was the pound but like the fool that I am, I didn’t ask why. My sister; love her, talked me into it but forgot to mention to me th

A Lesson in Basics

Confucius' philosophy and my views have differences in social organization and morality, but in terms of government organization, and the role of leaders in a nation, I am probably one of his deepest disciples.   I am going to paraphrase a Chinese question and its dialogue:   A question in the Confucian Dialectics is asked among Confucius scholars that is both broad and narrow: How does one "know" what they are doing is right for a nation?   Student 1: "One does not

319 Winesap Lane Is Back!

lt's taken a bit of time, but I've finally been able to pull all my teeth with a some rusty pliers and get this story going again.   Due to my diminished mental state I do not know when Chapter 19 will be out, but at least there is enough material pending for that chapter.

Just Over a Week Later...

So, it's been just over a week since my last blog post. Thank y'all for talking me through my over-analytical mind fuck of the possible situation. Thank the gods I didn't have to face the bitch-in-law, since my brother was the only one that came from Austin. She evidently fell off a ladder or some bullshit and hurt her back. Oh and all of the kids were sick with a stomach virus, conveniently. That was probably for the best. The first night we were down there, I had to sleep out in my aunt and un

Microbes Never Quit SO VACCINATE!

Infectious diseases have changed the course of whole civilizations.   There is archaeological evidence suggesting that plagues may have wiped out or caused huge changes in several prehistoric civilizations.(1)   The Antonine Plague (2) of 165–180 AD was a major factor in weakening the Roman Empire to the point that it could be defeated. Most people think it was smallpox but we can’t be sure.   Black Death(3) was the most devastating pandemic in human history killing
