Just by reading your posts over time, and knowing how hard you work and your energy level, I have little doubt you are well prepared to fight "mother nature". We have candles, health problems, and rely on a steady source of power. If that fails for long periods of time, we will be just S**t Outta Luck, like most of our other elderly neighbors. According to our extended weather forecast, this is just our first storm front, with more to follow. 😟 1 6

Bluetti is a great brand, and that's what we went with. We've got two big battery back-ups now. If you rely on a c-pap or other medical machines, it's a good idea to get one. They're not all that expensive for the smaller models, and those will run a c-pap for days. In the meantime, good luck. Do the best you can, and if you have family/friends who can help, keep them updated on your status. Edited January 25 by Wayne Gray 1 4
Popular Post Mikiesboy Posted January 25 Author Popular Post Posted January 25 The snow has started here, it looks like a couple of inches so far. We will be out shovelling it throughout the day to keep it manageable. Michael was saying he's glad he no longer has to drive in it to rescue idiots that could just not stay home, or were delusional enough to think they had the skills to drive in it with or without a vehicle that was ready for snow. I hated when he was on duty and was out in these massive storms - like a cat on a hot tin roof. He is still frustrated with people who do not do some preparation and decide it's a good day to go shopping after a foot of snow has fallen. I know there are people who must get to work....cops, fire, paramedics, docs, nurses etc. but if you have the option to stay home, do that. Companies should also realize how dangerous it is and allow people to be off, or work from home. Maybe it's time to think of people before money - yeah i know, what am i thinking? When i was at the bank they stopped allowing us to leave early...one snowmageddon it took me nearly six hours (normal time to home was 45 minutes on the bus) to get home and one brave Uber driver who got a massive tip. It's scary out there, and we have to stop pretending it's all okay. People can easily die in this weather (and other massive storms around the world). Oh, btw, happy Sunday. Take care of yourselves. 6

Maybe it's time to think of people before money - yeah i know, what am i thinking? Way back when I worked QA in a factory about 15 minutes from my house. At the time I drove a sporty little 2 door. Snow started about an hour after I arrived for my 2nd shift stint, 2 to 10 pm. By 4 pm the production floor shut down and everyone headed home. Called my supervisor to inform him that I would head our as soon as I finished up the paperwork. Got chewed out, informed there was plenty to do to fill the 6 hrs remaining of my shift, and if I leave I will face disciplinary action, not only for attendance violations, but for not following direct instructions as well. By quitting time snow on the road, a major highway, was so deep my tire tracks looked like a sled track where my undercarriage was dragging. 20 min ride took about 2 hrs of white knuckle driving at night. OK, I am finally home well after midnight. I crash, and when I get up around 10 am the snow is well up the door of my car. Governor has declared a state of emergency, issued a driving ban, all non essentials stay home. I call the attendance report line and leave a message saying I was complying with the travel ban and would not be in. Within 5 min boss calls and says get my ass in 2 hrs early because there are a lot of call outs and we are short handed. If I refuse he will fire me. I told him I would see him in court. Funny thing, I was still there when the company closed the facility and moved operations out of state. He was long gone by then. 1 5

I’ll be doing the same and shovelling in stages to keep on top of it all. Stay warm, tim. 4

Popular Post kbois Posted January 25 Popular Post Posted January 25 It started snowing here an hour ago. I've got the shovel ready on the back porch to keep an area cleared for Camden. Anything deeper than 6 inches and he disappears. He hates the white stuff. I've experienced those hellish white-knuckle drives several times. Once in D.C. when all the idiots who never experienced snow before created a grid lock that turned a 50 minute drive into 6 hours. Another time my car broke down and I had to abandon it at a gas station in the middle of a rough neighborhood and trudge 6 blocks in calf-deep snow to get to the closest Metro station and have someone come get me at the end of the line. I've got stuff thawing out to do meal prep for the next week or so and I think I'll get some baking done Stay safe and warm everyone! 6 1

Anything under 50°F and we have to literally push his tail out the door. We're about to get hit with several hours of snowfall rates between 1"-3" per hour. So if we get 4 hours of 3 inches per hour that's 2 dachshunds high. 🤣 2 3
Kitt Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Ok, this is a first. NJ Transit have stopped bus, train and handicap access busses tfn. 5

He was a mini that thought he was a standard, Michael more than once had to pull him out of snow drifts he was sure he could run through. 5

I can thoroughly picture Camden getting his nails trimmed and buffed while his human servants hand feeds him milk bones and puperoni. He's not keen on being bathed but he loves the blow dryer. He's definitely prissy lol. Dogs that love the snow are awesome. Our first girl couldn't wait to go out and chase snowballs. Camden would no doubt sit his ass down and look at me like I had 3 heads if I tried to throw a snowballs for him lol. Edited January 25 by kbois 3

Our three family mini long-haired dachs (Henry, Digby and Oliver) loved the snow in Uk. Here Fosca was not impressed when shown it but tolerated a quick comfort stop near a ski resort. And as for the short-haired pups, anything colder than 15°c is considered cruelty (by them)….. Hope you guys all survive the winter stuff. Xxx Edited January 25 by Gary L 5
Mikiesboy Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 And ... 3000 words later, i am pretty nearly done my latest story. Don't all jump up and down, i've still got to edit it etc. Luckily, for me, i had little to do today other than shovel every couple of hours. I'm excited about this one...i like it a lot. 4

Now, if only it will stop… 2
kbois Posted January 26 Posted January 26 We're at 16.5 inches so far. The guys are out shoveling. I'm sure the plow will come by again right after they're done. More of the white stuff to come, maybe another couple of inches. Camden is packing his things. Pretty sure he's going to be hitchhiking back to Florida. 1 2
