Occasional Poetry - 66. Thaw

All errors are mine, including those about the weather.

Thaw

One morning in a February thaw,
I chanced to stroll a sunny campus path
together with my colleague in the law,
enjoying a reprieve from winter's wrath.

The borders glowed unnaturally green,
for Sol had carried all the snow away;
the stratus clouds were nowhere to be seen,
bewildered by his mild and gracious ray.

The lovely earth had shaken off her shroud,
and though untimely, still the warming soil
encouraged both the lowly and the proud
to raise their flowered heads above the spoil.

At this, my comrade shouted in offense:
"Get back you fools, ere winter's recommence!"

Ah yes... the February thaw. It gives us hope that winter will be over soon and makes us crabby when winter returns... lol  I'm guilty of yelling at bulbs that want to sprout too early too, although with not quite the same phrasing. ;)  Thanks for the giggle. :gikkle:

We can tell the plants what's good for them, but they never seem to listen, do they?
