Occasional Poetry - 30. Seminar

em>Something light and academic to commemorate summer vacations....and all the errors herein are mine. Enjoy them.
Seminar

The sciences, so I am told,
are cut and dried, so very cold,
no shades of grey, all black and white,
like Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Psychology is not as chill,
and Econ might be warmer still,
while going further, what might be
as warm as Anthropology?

But if you'd really rather freeze,
then mathematics you should seize;
equations analytical
all iced and hypercritical.

Suppose you need a summer breeze,
you'd better choose humanities:
their hazy, humid lines are blurred,
so much if fiction is inferred.

Art history is balmy, too,
as we discuss the works on view,
for taste cannot have much to say
of right or wrong on Claude Monet.

No ambiguity is thus
examining the calculus;
its frigid form is set in ice,
mere argument will not suffice.

Consider n raised to the naught:
the answer's 1, as we are taught,
but n at zero? There's a flaw -
I think I may detect a thaw!

For zero raised to zero fails,
no answer we can use prevails;
for is it one or zero, eh?
Oh dear, it's looking warm and grey...

Wow!!! That so thoughtful. And Brilliant. And Excellent. And Marvelous. And Fantastic. I can say more, but that will look like I'm just blathering. I really liked how you have given connections of every subjects so far.

It made me think of one of the local hit song of 90's. So normally I'm humming and a little bit dancing. Nice poem. Drew gonna love it... ;)

Okay, now I am blushing. Not a pretty sight. But you can keep saying nice things about the poem, and I won't stop you. Many thanks, Emi, and I'm glad it got you humming.

Study in humor, humor in study. Nicely done Parker.

You have a perfect way of formulating a Bon Mot. Thank you for your comment, Dugh.

Perfect, Parker. Sparkling and amusing. The cadence was superb... it will be hard to top this one, but I have faith you will somehow manage to... cheers... Gary... and, oh yeah... thanks for the sheer enjoyment....

This is truly delightful. I love the motion from subject to subject, and how math is not delayed to the end, but intro'd as a foil rather early on so it can be developed and perfected by the end.

Your impeccable sense of/and use of/metre here shines through and adds immensely to the 'feel' of the poem. Pretty darn masterful, dear friend.

Bravo!

Well, now Parker!

So refreshingly, ...refreshing!

Better than lemonade on a warm summer day. :D

You are so very kind; hope you didn't mind my academic tour de force (suppose it could have been much worse). Your metaphor made me smile, SD. Thank you.

I am so very happy you enjoyed this, Gary. We don't always get to back to school and like it.

You are so very kind and generous in your praise. I am so happy you found this enjoyable. It was fun to poke at the academe, and play with what occurred to me. And math does make a great foil...we love nerds for lots of reasons, no?
