Occasional Poetry - 50. Suitability

i>A simple poem for number 50; something I hope for everyone.
Suitability

The proper dress for jays is blue,
or so the sages tell;
each feather to its bird is true,
each flower to its dell;
and dappled dawnlight favors you
as music suits the bell.

The trees that clothe the mountainside
were tailored green for June,
while rain that swells the ocean tide
must answer to its moon;
so joy your countenance must guide,
as sunshine answers noon.

The dance in early morning bright
was fashioned for your eyes,
and afternoon's embraces tight
all heaven may comprise,
but love becomes you in the night,
as stars adorn the skies.

A beautiful and powerful poem. Strong images, especially for me the blue jay's coloring. I fancy I see a bit of inspiration here from the James Fenimore Cooper poem I posted in Live-Poets last night, and that thrills me. Cooper's stanza form is beautiful and I think you were as taken with the shift in metre in the second and fourth lines as much as I was :)

Wonderful, inspiring work, Parker. Thanks for posting it.

As I said in the previous comment, the last two lines inspired the beginning. I am glad you liked the first line, as the Jay's blue was such a vivid and arresting image when it first arrived. The shift in metre was a real change of pace, and it was fun to try. Thank you for your very kind and generous words...

I love that the last two lines inspired the poem. The ending of my story "Alex's Legacy" was what prompted me to write the entire story, so I can relate. It's well-done as always. Very evocative. The blue jay really stood out to me as well. :)

I am glad you liked this; it is a personal favorite. The last line got under my skin, and would not let me go.

Something is wrong here - I understood every word ... :P And such beautiful words, fashioned with such skill and love. A hymn in praise of the natural world and your beloved. A fitting poem for your half century. :)

Thank you so very much for your kind encouragement. The images simply would not let me alone, and I fussed a rather long time until I was moderately satisfied.

Such a beautiful poem with simple yet powerful words. Every image is on-sight as you're telling them. And most importantly, the morning sunshine in last stanza was just splendid to me. Really really Beautiful poem.

~Emi.

I am so very happy that this poem appealed to you, Emi. The morning sunshine you speak of came to me only later as I was editing the first draft; the first attempt was far clunkier. Many thanks for your thoughts!
