Occasional Poetry - 53. Planck and Photosynthesis

em>Let me apologize to all biologists and physicists right away. Thank you. Now I feel better.
Photosynthesis

It's photosynthesis, I know,
that makes my garden lettuce grow
when sunlight causes plants to make
their carbohydrates then to stow.

They do this when I'm just awake,
the chloroplasts, their fluids bake,
producing sugars, which we crave
in corn, or in a chocolate shake.

By doing this, my roses save
their energy for blooms that wave
when breezes blow and rainclouds mass,
and birds seek homes in maples brave.

I worry for the summer grass;
we lie upon it, bold as brass,
force photosynthesis to slow;
but then your lips make thinking pass.

Planck

The energy from stars aflame,
or other source you care to name,
was measured by a man named Planck,
whose constant won eternal fame.

Now Max thought physics' hanky-pank
left radiance theory looking blank;
it's not continuous at all,
for quanta Planck is whom we thank.

These bits of energy, quite small
get measured, when we have the call;
Planck's constant times the frequency
is what we in the margin scrawl.

Now Planck may have the chieftaincy
in physics, but for frequence he
has nothing on our love's acclaim;
your radiance fires your piquancy.

The first made me smile... don't ask me why, though, because I'm not sure. I do love how these 'brainy subjects all get reduced to a feeling for someone loved... the last verse was beautiful...

Planck? Well crafted, sir... again, in the end it is about love... speaking of love... loved the last line... "your radiance fires your piquancy." Fracking(I know) brilliant... I may use 'piquancy' sometime in the future... my favorite word of the day :) . Cheers, buddy... Gary....

So glad you saw right through me...I am one of those hopelessly romantic scientist types...if that is a type. But I am happy you liked Planck, as I wasn't sure it came off all right, but doesn't it all make one wonder if love is a quantum force? Or, as I'd like to prefer, continuous? I think I shall need to do more in-depth research....and I am very happy 'piquancy' tickled your fancy. Many thanks for your kind support... parker

Thank you, Val. That's grand that you liked either one...but that verse about the grass was fun to conceive.....

Love em both ... last verse of the first is wonderful. Nicely done, Parker!!

Thanks, tim! The poor, unfortunate grass, interrupted in making its own food as we lie out upon it...but perhaps our need is greater, still ;).

They are fantastic Parker. I loved the last stanza of the first poem. Just lovely. You rocked science class this time. ;)
