Occasional Poetry - 10. Lyric #3.5

em>I made many mistakes herein; edited them, then put them back. I own them. Written in response to Poetry Prompt 3, Lyric.
Warmth and comfort, arms so gentle
wrapped around my torso;
scent familiar, transcendental,
fills my spirit; more so
 
Fanning memory's glowing embers,
flick'ring dim lit rapture.
And the body still remembers
all consuming capture.

It's perfect just the way it is. It's okay to ask what others think, but it's always yours and personally I think you made the right choice.
This works beautifully in my mind.

The back and forth of the rhythm here (from 8 syllables to 6; and repeat), is great. This prompt challenge is all about getting comfortable with a limited amount of space per line to get your message across.

 

Here, your 'melody' (as achieved by really fine metre) just sings! They don’t call this type of poetry lyrical for nothing! And I think you're proving that.

 

I also love the images in the poem itself. Sensual moments...well, those are the stuff of poets' hearts and poets' quiet moments too. I like the idea that the body remembers just as well as the mind does.

Thank you Tim. Your encouragement means so much to me. Like a tricky math problem, writing poetry leaves me wondering if I really got it 'right.' But unlike Calculus, there's no way to check your answer!

Thank you. The images and senses drove what I came out on the paper (really. paper!). The body remembers a lot for us; reminds us of what we felt, touched, yearned for. And the metre is fun - yes it's counting, and my fingers are getting calloused from ticking off syllables. Thanks for the challenge and your encouragement.

I shan't mind a whit; there is the real poetry I'm trying to learn, and the doggerel you're used to seeing from me. Both have their places. And I am very glad you liked this poem.

Beautiful.

 

Really, that one word captures my review. So wonderfully full of tenderness and love, and the fire analogies fit both that and the time of year it was written.

I am glad you liked this small gem. Like an ember, it still glows brightly. I have always liked this one, thank you for enjoying it, too.
