Occasional Poetry - 62. Valentine

em>Usually I post sonnets in pairs. However, I have but one Valentine's Day sonnet this year. I therefore chose to add another one, perhaps slightly less apropos. I hope I may be pardoned.
With thanks to AC and Gary for inspiration.
Valentine

I rue the day I came into this world,
and blame the angels who misread the date
of my arrival, limbs and hands unfurled,
untimely, and abominably late;

Not only did they err as to the year,
they utterly mislaid the proper map,
so I came all too wrongly, and I fear
geography compounded my mishap.

Yet even though both time and tide divide,
our spirits join together in the dance
of poetry and story, closely tied,
to celebrate the triumphs of romance.

Though age and distance keep us far apart,
I feel you ever nearer to my heart.

Fulfillment

I ventured out beyond my conscious walls,
and there we met in dreamlit mansions fair,
amidst a crowd of myriad faces there,
I wandered, searching for you most of all.

A glimpse, perhaps a chase down paneled hall,
through loggias, hustling past the guests who stare,
to find a portal plain, but do I dare
to find within who holds my heart in thrall?

But when I press beyond into the gloom,
the mists dissolve, and lonely do I wake;
our bed is cold and silence fills the room,
yet instantly I feel the mattress shake,
your breath upon my neck begins to bloom,
now enter to my chamber, still my ache.

em>I beg you will leave a review, or perhaps a rant, or even a rave. I shall be glad of whatever you say.

I know it is trite to say so, but your poems are beautiful - I like the sonnet best this time - beautiful, flowing easily...

Although I did never get Valentines day, I really like the first sonnet. It is so charming and sweet! I enjoyed reading it.
The second one seems a little sad, but if there was no sadness is part of life and lets us know what we had possessed. Very insistent pictures, you drew.

Thanks so very much for reading and comments on these. Sometimes, the words just take care of themselves.

Thank you very much for reading through these and responding to them. I hoped that the first one would have the power to charm. The second is a bit sad, I agree, but I hoped to give the sense of waking to one's beloved. I am glad the pictures are vivid enough to come through.

Lovely, as always. The second one reminds me very much of something I wrote many years ago (although yours is much better ;) ). I'll have to dig it out and possibly post it. :) Happy Valentine's Day, Parker.

Would you be my valentine? Across time and space? :)
I loved them both, Parker... but especially Valentine
"Yet even though both time and tide divide,

What a charming bit of star-crossed valentines. Both are each lovely in their individual sentiment. Thank you for sharing them.

Perhaps not what Hallmark would have printed, but they express a love and hope that's true. I am grateful you read them, and thought them good.

Hoping these made you feel a little better, brother. I am glad they appealed to you, and maybe they were as good as a hug.
