Occasional Poetry - 67. Hospital Visit

Impressions from a difficult visit. There are probably mistakes. I shall have to live with that.

Pale, translucent skin
drawn across ancient cheekbones
belies a live mind.

Blue eyes, bright with tears
recall a lifetime of love,
laughter and blessing.

Warm hands, still holding,
brief, whispered words caressing,
promise forever.

If these move you, I would love to know about it. Thanks.

I think you captured the moment perfectly.  You reminded me of when my grandmother was in the same situation.  Nice job.:kiss:

Recall a lifetime of love.....that line is so important.  Whatever else life throws at us, it's the love we remember most.  Loving, and being loved...a beautiful feeling.   Thank you for sharing!!

These distilled several long days in a tiny dimly lit hospital room. They are like snapshots, perhaps. Thank you so much.

No, go, this us not an easy experience to distill into words. But maybe they help to ease the ache, and remind me of the love that remains. Thank you for your care and strength.

If anything can be recalled from this visit, it is the love, recollected with every quiet breath, every beep of medical machinery, every twitch of a finger. Thank you for reading and responding to these.

Thank you for reading these. Such farewells and partings tear at the soul, sear the spirit.

(In a good way)

I am grateful you read these. They were hard to distill.

Whether in a hospital room, in a hospice room, in a bedroom, or anywhere, being witness to a life expiring is heartbreaking. You captured the sentiment. I'm sorry for your loss.

It is like an unraveling, an unwinding. It is so very hard to be there. Thanks for your comment and kindness.
