Greg didn’t appear to realise I could see his reflection in the mirror above the sink. It was obvious he was shocked to see me striping off. It’s not something I make a habit of doing in public (especially in a toilet block), but there was no way I was going to sit in that car for the whole trip, still covered with the sweat and sawdust from a day’s work. I needed to get out of those clothes, wipe myself down with a damp towel, and get changed into something clean.

It’s funny. Once they know I’m gay, the gay guys make no bones about leering at me when I’m half dressed. The straight guys, however, always try to avoid being seen looking at me. It’s the reverse when they don’t know I’m gay. The straight guys will ask questions about whether or not I work out, and the gay guys try to avoid staring.

Greg’s definitely in the “don’t let him see me looking” class. At his age, if he’s never met a guy he knows is gay before, he’ll be wondering if there is something different about me. I’m sure he’ll be disappointed when he doesn’t find anything “queer” that he can see. But it is cute the way he’s trying to sneak a peek without being noticed.

I think he’ll turn out okay.
