Falls Creek Lessons - Links - 21. Chapter 21

[Chris Everington]

Something happened in Euroa between Greg and his sister. I could tell that Paul was as puzzled as I was, but Diane wouldn’t talk about it. I overheard her tell Rob that it wasn’t Greg’s fault, but that just made it stranger. If it wasn’t his fault then it must be Diane’s. Why won’t she say what it is?

Greg seemed to retreat into a shell when we got back into the car. It was if he was withdrawing from the world into his own little space. I could see Paul giving him worried glances as he drove the car along the highway. We had a quick chat when we changed drivers at Glenrowan and Paul told me that he was concerned. He told me that he used to do something similar after his incident – retreating from reality into a private world. His counsellor had told him that he was retreating from what had happened to him. Paul’s still not over it. He’s told me that, apart from the counsellor, I’m the only person he’s told the complete story to. All I can say is I hope that hasn’t happened to Greg too.

Why was Greg retreating? Or is Paul just getting over-anxious?

Now that we’re here in Mt. Beauty, Greg seems fine. He’s working with Paul without a qualm. There’s no sign of any anxiety that I can see.

We have a mystery here. The only real question is whether or not it’s any of my business….
