Author Guess Who #21 - Reveal!

    By astone2292

Ah, the fourth Thursday of the month. We all know what that means, right? It's time for the Author Guess Who reveal! Did y'all have any guesses as to who the mystery author could be? If not, time to take another look at the interview...   > > > HERE < < < So, we have someone who is a fan of both Alan Alda and Jerry Seinfeld, has two Bachelor degrees, and is allergic to dogs. Well, that last part is pretty tragic. How awful! Unable to pet floofy doggos... Those poor, h

Points of View - The Ultimate Personification of an Object

    By Cole Matthews

Points of view are so important in stories.  As writers, we have to pretend to be someone else, feel what they feel, and ache with their longings.  As an exercise, let's pretend to be something not alive.  You can fill the object with whatever you feel or think.  The object will become a character, a witness, and your sounding board.     #215 - You are a porch swing.  You must describe the events that unfold around you, but only during times of great emotion.  That's when you awaken.

Rush Limbaugh to get $38M a year for next 8 years

NEW YORK - Rush Limbaugh will make about $38 million a year to continue his radio show over the next eight years. In addition, he says will be getting a nine-figure signing bonus from Premiere Radio Networks. ADVERTISEMENT   Premiere wouldn't disclose details of the deal but Limbaugh gave the information to The New York Times for an article to be published Sunday.   Limbaugh's three-hour show, broadcast from his office in Florida, is heard on some 600 radio stations across the country. A recount of recent events

I stayed up till 5am chatting with my best friend (Scott) last night/today. I was really nice, we hadn't had a chance to hang out just the two of us and really talk for several weeks.   FF ('former friend' from previous entires) seems to be interested in reconciling. Things have been warm and pleasant between us of late. Nevertheless, while I'll continue to be nice to him, and even welcome his presence among our mutual friends and shared activities, I don't think I have any interest in re

July Vacation Trip

This has been one exciting trip so far. It actually started several days ago. I went to call my brother to let him know I would be coming and when. I discovered that somehow I had lost his number off my cell phone. I couldn't find my younger sisters either. I had noticed several days ago, that I couldn't make or receive calls. I wound up pulling the battery and sim card to get it working again. So emailed a cousin of mine asking her to contact my sister and let her know and to get a hold of my b

Dance Dance Dance!

Mike dances???   Holy shit...   Someone is breaking my shell and I don't know who it is but I'm angry...   The shell I've worked 20 LONG AND HARD years to form. The shell that no man or woman could ever break. The shell that kept me in my comfort zone no matter how much deep down inside I wanted to branch out. The shell that held me back all these years from the things I enjoy, for the things I keep hidden for the things that make me, well me. and just like that BROKEN!   I go to work

Camping and Zoloft

I had a great time at the creek last weekend. Paul invited me, and it was a f**king blast. I got to meet his boyfriend, Levi, for the first time really. I'd seen him around before but never really spoken to him, which is a total shame because the boy is absolutely one of the nicest people ever.   He talked me into shotgunning a beer with him after I'd already had SEVERAL, lol. Then he didn't complain at all when he had to help me to my tent because I was drunk enough for the sand to be m

Is Pokey Dead?

Yesterday when I was driving up US-550 toward Durango, CO, I saw what looked like a small rottweiler puppy lying beside the highway. There isn't a breakdown lane in that stretch so the little doggy was lying in a narrow, a tire's width, space between the pavement and the weedy shoulder. I imagined Mom moving the kids the previous night and little Pokey trying to keep up before the next car came careening down the highway. It was probably too dark and the driver was probably distracted by the mot

Waxing Hypotheticals

Let's say you have this person you consider a friend, even though the last time you communicated with them, it didn't end up so well. In fact let's just say they never replied back.   Now you notice another person warming up to this person you consider a friend, offering unsolicited, but by all means welcome, advice. Do you warn the friend off? Do you tell them about the odd ways of this new person? Do you tell friend that all he has to do is disagree with the new person once and the new perso

Grease monkey or cat?

Have you ever had an animal under the hood of your car? Had someone asked me that yesterday, I would have said no. However, if I said no to that question now, I would be lying. I left my house around 2 and went to Missouri. Before I left, I noticed a kitten crawling underneath my car. I thought nothing of it. I put my key into the ignition, turned it over, and let the engine roar. Once I arrived at my destination, I heard a distinct meow, one I had heard before. So, I open the hood, and nested o

Before I dash off to work

Mostly I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank the admins for all the work they put into this website. I've been a member for a couple years now, mostly lurking, but it has been a joy to watch the site expand and improve over time.   As to the current unpleasantness, I won't say that I am taking the Admins side, because they have not asked anyone to do so. Besides, the fact that I have met four out of the five admins, and liked them, prejudices me to look at their words with a little le

30 past prime

I'm an introverted Kinda guy. I don't mean to be, just kind of turned out that way. thats not the reason for this little rant however. Sometimes it feels like the past decade has been wasted. Wasted waiting, or merely floating through life with no particular aim. I guess that is the bane of the tail edge of Generation X, a complete lack of motivation.   As I have stated in earlier blogs I'm tired of feeling ... lost in the world. I want something more then the prospects of another dead end jo

Deer Time

Last night as I was driving here (Clarksville, AR) I saw a deer standing in the grass beside the interstate. It was not looking into the oncoming headlights, but away from them. I thought that was rather clever for the stupid, hairy, suicidal beastie.   They run out in front of cars and trucks. The question isn't "Why did the chicken cross the road?" It is "Why did the deer cross the road?" There's grass on their side. They don't need to go to the other side to get food.   And, why is it peo

Thoughts of mortality

Sorry in advance for anyone creeped out by this entry.   Lately I've been thinking a lot about dying. Not wanting to die, but just dying in general. I guess more to the point, it's been consuming all of my thoughts and even my dreams at night. I just get the feeling that death might be right around the corner for me, and I can't shake it. Last night I woke up in a cold sweat from a dream that I was being murdered, and a couple of nights before, I actually woke up kneeling at my bedside, and I

If you thought my voice was sexy before...

Just kidding about the title. Actually, Dan is quite possibly the first person to say something positive about my voice. More often, I get made fun of for it, not least because I have a greater degree of control over it. I can pitch it high falsetto, properly, so even that can be easily heard, or I can pitch it low so that it carries through doors and walls. Usually I mumble, which makes those two tricks all the more startling the first time someone hears them. This last week I've been sick, and

Saying Goodbye to a Friend

Today, I took my friend, Lori, to the bus stop. I have known her for over six years now, and she has decided to move to California. She had been in a relationship with my cousin for a while. Anyway, it was not going well and she decided it was time to pack her bags and move for good. Personally, I don't hold it against her, though some might think I would. She is doing what she had to do for herself. It seems that she has had enough of being miserable. In her situations, I'm sure I would have do

A new day, a new story

I posted a new story in eFiction today entitled Truthfully and so far I've gotten 2 review (at the time of the posting). I really hope I get more reviews or PM's from the members here that tell me how my writing is and where I can improve.   I'm also happy on another level because I'm signed up for classes this Fall and i got the two I really wanted (the other two are required for me degree and are two i'm not really looking forward to lol). But I am really excited for my American Sign Languag

Maid of Honor, ebay, hell.

I really kind of regret not going away to college, or at the very least moving out of this house.   I graduated from High School this month. I graduated with honors. My report card came in the mail today. My parents have been bitching at me all night about it. Damn! I graduated with honors! Yes, my grades were not as good as they have been, but I had honors! Isn't that good enough for them? No! Nothing is ever good enough for them! Whatever...   I need to start saving lots of money, because

Apple Pie Alamode Ice Cream and Squirt Guns!

Well spending the past few days resting (and a few more in the future doing the same) with limited activity, all I can say is that I'm enjoying the time I'm spending with my friends who are coming over to visit me, and watching people interact on GA. Seriously, I've never been more entertained then I was last night   Oh, the reason for my blog title is simple, my friend stopped by yesterday night and hung out with me for a little bit. She brought my favorite cold stone ice cream and brought m
