methodwriter85 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Here's a pretty interesting map that shows what sport each state would play were they restricted to one sport. My home state, Delaware, got the Punkin Chunkin. It's basically this competition where people try and see how far they can launch a pumpkin. It's apparenty spreading to other states now, which is cool. Other states that I've lived in were assigned to these sports:Louisiana- Bass fishing (I haven't been there since 1989 so I can't vouch for the veracity.)New Jersey- Youth soccer (I can see that.)Texas- High school football. (No-brainer.)Maryland- Lacrosse. (Again, a big "Duh.")Pennsylvania - Field hockey. Kinda weird to me, but okay. So for you Americans out there, what sport did your state get, and did you agree?
Bill W Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Not sure how Kansas ended up with college basketball, seeing there are several other states that I feel have a stronger claim, and I'm not sure why Georgia got tennis. Trust me, I don't see a lot of rackets or tennis courts in the area, unless I'm looking in the wrong places. 1
Rizan Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Spring training baseball?!? That's not even a sport. And it has nothing to do with Arizona or Arizonans, it's a bunch of out-of-state baseball teams practicing here. Like, WHAT THE HELL?!
JamesSavik Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Mississippi is deer hunting. So that's why we've all got rifles.
kryshim Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I can agree with giving Louisiana bass fishing though I might argue harder for football or baseball
TetRefine Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) My home state of New Hampshire got cross-country skiing. That seems pretty fitting, as we have a ton of alpine/XC ski mountains around up there. I don't understand Pennsylvania getting field hockey. Around the city here I don't think its that popular. But maybe its more a suburban thing or more popular in the central and western part of the state? Edited October 9, 2013 by TetRefine
Lugh Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 what exactly is steeplechase? hell if ohio can have cornhole I want sandcastle building or bungee jumping.... sky diving? something that at least sounds interesting.
Site Administrator wildone Posted October 10, 2013 Site Administrator Posted October 10, 2013 Hmmm, they could have made it the Sports of North America, Wonder what the different sports would be for the 9 provinces and 3 territories for Canada would be?
Y_B Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) High school football?? Doesn't sound right at all. I didn't even know high school HAD football Edited October 10, 2013 by Y_B
Krista Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Shew, Kentucky had something nice. Horse Racing, I knew it would be something like that.. because of the Kentucky Derby. I did squint to make sure I didn't see something like, Red Neck Log Rolling or Hillbilly Hand Fishin' something like that.. 2
Sasha Distan Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 based on this map, i shall be moving to South Dakota.
Aditus Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) Me you would find in Washington. Cool, I could visit my cousin in Vancouver more often. I wonder what NRW would get... Edited October 10, 2013 by aditus
Bill W Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Hmmm, they could have made it the Sports of North America, Wonder what the different sports would be for the 9 provinces and 3 territories for Canada would be? Let's see, there would be ice fishing, dog sleding, lacrosse, Canadian football, curling, snowshoeing, hockey, x-country skiing, St. Bernard training for rescue missions, Salmon fishing, Polar Bear hunting, figure skating. There's 12 sports, now you match them up for us. lol
K.C. Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 West Virginia got rock climbing. That's appropriate with the big blue mountain I live on top of
joann414 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) Yep, I'm a gun carrier too. Mississippi. Deer Hunting. Though, I'm kinda like Krista, I was afraid they might have designated beer can crushing or tobacco spitting as a sport Edited October 10, 2013 by joann414

Site Moderator TalonRider Posted October 10, 2013 Site Moderator Posted October 10, 2013 As Indiana is where I was born and raised, it's no surprise to find High School Basketball listed. The state is big on basketball.
Mann Ramblings Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Michigan - Ice Hockey. That is actually appropriate, it's the one sport that seems to be fairly consistent in its success. Go Wings!
Ron Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 If you were to combine where I grew up with where I live now, you would get a: Cornhole Marathon! <- well that's something 2
mickey1952 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Absolutely agree that wrestling should be the official state sport in Iowa. How could it be anything else?!
