November CSR Discussion Day: Hustle by Talo Segura

    By Cia

Wow, November already. With the year almost over, I wanted to keep featuring things that kept readers guessing and challenge the idea of the traditional reading genres and stories. What did you think of Hustle? Share your thoughts below, but first, the interview!! Chocolate or Vanilla? I have to cheat... both! What's your favorite room in your home? Do you plot or write there? I don't have a favourite room and I write where ever I find myself alone and not being disturbed, of

I'm in the Dog House Now

Yeah, I've managed to make my way back to the disciplinary house of idiots. I'm almost embarassed to say. I broke two rules that go unsaid at my house. Don't pour oil or grease in the garbage, and don't bother my stuff! Nuff said.   I fried catfish filets Tuesday evening for dinner. I never re-use oil. My hubby always takes it out because he says I don't take it far enough away to keep the pets out of it. So, he was busy that evening and I thought, "The garbage guys run tomorrow. He'll

Social Skills audiobook

After many false starts, I can finally say that the Social Skills audiobook is now available on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes. My first audiobook! \o/   Awesome Cover Art by Dani Alexander   A few samples: Opening credits Retail sample from Chapter 1   My narrator (Andrew Eiden) did an amazing job, and really went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied with every line of his reading. He’s an actor and an experienced narrator, and luckily for me he took an interest in my tit

Internet Sleuths Find Philly Gay Bashers

Internet sleuths help police find the people who were involved with a Philadelphia gay bashing.   It's absolutely baffling to me that this happened in Philadelphia in 2014. In any event, I'm glad that these people got caught pretty quickly.   Although I'm pissed off to learn that they can't be charged with hate crimes because Pennsylvania doesn't have sexual orientation as a bias for hate crime law. Seriously, why is it that there is so much focus on getting same-sex marriage when this shit

Scotland votes for Independence this week

Just 33 hours to go now to Thursday's referendum - Britain only ever votes on Thursdays.   You'll have read / watched the arguments ad nauseam - or not, in which case you won't be reading this - so I won't rehash them. And I won't repeat posts in the two earlier blogs: http://www.gayauthors.org/forums/blog/504/entry-14328-scotland-nearer-to-independence/ http://www.gayauthors.org/forums/blog/504/entry-13245-scottish-independence/   What's emerged in the final weeks of campaigning is the u

The Illusion of Choice

School.   For those of you who do not: A) have children or grandchildren teach children C) work in academia ... September is any other time of year. Sad because it is the end of summer, but generally the same as any other month. For those of us in the second category, it marks the start of the new school year (at least, in the Northern Hemisphere) and a rollar coaster of emotions, frustrations, delights and horrors.   We have now lived, survived, a full teaching week. I have met all of

The 9/11 Media Coverage

Does it bother anyone else that every single year there has to be massive media coverage about 9/11? Every single year they have to bring out the 9/11 footage, show off the memorials at Ground Zero, etc etc. I can understand for the big anniversaries- like the 10th in 2011 was a big deal, and there's the 15th in 2016. But really, for the 13th it has to be a big leading new story?   There's this deep cynical part of me that doesn't think it's about honoring the memory of the dead- that it's a m

After the boys of summer are gone

Sometimes words are wasted when music is the correct language for a mood.   Sit back, turn it up and burn one if you feel like it.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi3OnJT4Qjw   Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac A little voice inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back" I thought I knew what love was What did I know? Those days are gone forever I should just let them go but-   I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You

When Things Don't Work Out- Post-Script

So you guys have heard all about my internship that went incredibly south, and the incredibly humiliating way I was released from the internship.   As a bit of a post-script, I had to fill out a survey. I vented out some of my anger at the situation, but I managed to keep it from going too over the top After mentioning my points that I think my supervisor needed to be more direct with constructive criticism and not engage her interns in so many private conversations, I was able to suggest this

Life Goes Swimmingly Along

Well, it's like this. In the beginning of Hercules III I said the story is for "everyone". I've tried to keep to that commitment, but now in the start I'm faced with this sentence: There was a holographic image slowly rotating in front of them showing two naked young men in a close, slow dance barely mimicking sexual intimacy. Okay! Okay. . . Yes, there is implied sex, but is it too much sex, considering "everyone" might say visual sex is still sex. Does futuristic pornography meet the require

Sooooo, Now What's Next?

As some of you know I’ve been crazy-crazy-stressed with several big changes at work ((which now requires a new certification in Anesthesia.)) It’s required to keep my job in surgery. The exam for the certification was brutal…but I passed!!!! Today, I found out that I’ve gotten the highest score out of all my co-workers. So glad, I don’t have to worry about that again, at least not for another 5 years when it’s time to re-certify   I had put everything on hold to study and now that it’s d

Super Clusters

I posted the following entry in the forum for my story Abel III and unless someone was interested in my story most probably did not see it. In laymen's language the video describes the latest theories about galactic super clusters. It is very well done and I recommend everyone to take a look if they haven't already seen it. DDK   Posted 03 September 2014 - 11:21 PM   I just saw a great video that came out today explaining galactic super clusters and the most recent and best understanding o

Life and other adventures

Life never goes as planned. I've learned that lesson a few times the hard way. This is just basically a note to say I'm here, I'm alive, I'm doing the best I can, and yeah I still have a ways to go.   I've had a rather interesting year so far. I've learned things about myself I don't like, and done things I could to change. I know I am a work in progress and probably will be til I die.   Sometimes lately I just keep quiet. It is how I handle things. I am being sent back to have new testing d

Thinking about Coming Out?

One of our newer members was discussing coming out.   I put together a post that I think addresses the topic rationally and succinctly.   This is my response:   ______________________________     Coming out is a very much an individual thing. It can be very tricky but it is something that you get to decide for yourself.   You owe it to YOURSELF to do it right.   You DO NOT owe it to the mythological "gay community" to come out at all costs and injure yourself and your future in the

Some may ask

I'm sure many of you know how much I love poetry. But after watching this video this is what came to my mind. I absolutely love slam poetry and the way it expresses ones deepest of pains or desires. I'm not saying this poem above is an epic tale, but it's what my heart spoke from the other side. Hope you liked it.

Winter Food

It has become winter here. All of a sudden, overnight on Sunday just past, it has become winter. We seem to have run out of seasons and are down to just two: winter (which is wet: containing mists and drips, slithers and chills but isn't particularly cold) and summer (which was short and absolutely sweltering).   Yesterday, there seemed like nothing better to do than make the house smell warm and full of food. I made bread, a big loaf for us and a miniature one for my father, and while is was

Queer As Folk

Back in 2005 the US version of Queer As Folk went off the air. It had characters Ben and Michael getting married in Canada as it was the only place in North America to legally get married if you were same sex. Melanie and Lindsey moved to Toronto where they legally could be married and raise their son Gus, who would be 16 now I think. Also, Debbie and Carl were left unwed as Debbie swore never to get married until her son and friends legally could at home.   Fast forward 10 years and it is now

Better late than never!

Well, after 15 years a story of mine is finally being brought out to the forefront, dusted off, and is being edited for publication (hopefully by year end or Q1 of 2015)!   That said, I've hit the wall with another story that even I am struggling with next steps on. How does one overcome a boring section or huge brick wall in your story?

No Politics. Well, okay. (?)

I don't know what it is about politics that makes us all foam at the mouth. Sometimes--like the people who rubberneck at terrible auto accidents on the highway they're traveling--I can't keep myself from looking at the comments to political essays posted to the Internet, but most of the time it just depresses me. People are mean, hateful, and ignorant on matters of politics, and they seem to be enjoying being those things and beating up other people with those things!   We had a politics-place

And When I Die

Writer's die a lot.   Death, that thing that cannot be known beforehand: writers can be said to experience it often. They are often little deaths, small hard moments of pain which pass soon, but in the moment they are with us, they are all to real. We die when he kill off a character, we die softly and quietly inside when they say goodbye to us, we ache with pain when our muses refuse to release them to our waiting fingertips. Depending on how much one writes, and on how long those stories las

Let's Predict the Near Future: uncensored edition

We had a Let's Predict the Near Future thread. It was killed because unless your were joking, you couldn't help address political issues.   Politics comes from a Greek root word that means "of, for, or relating to citizens".   It's everywhere and it's difficult to have a substantial conversation without touching on it to some extent.   I find it very, very disquieting that politics has such a dirty, divisive word that we have to censor any tangential mention of it. That is something we nee

Welcome

Dear all (or to the few who will read this ;-),   Thanks for joining me on my odd journey of writing about not so topsy wolf shifters ... While I'm stuck at MetaWolf Book IV I am following the old tradition of procrastination by doing something else which promises quick gratification.   In this case, I was admiring a photo which shows my perfect CE (see character in MetaWolf): http://www.pinterest.com/pin/221591244139597694/ ...   And before I will attack chapter 12, I will continue to mu

New Beginnings

With apologies to Bleu, from whom I stole the title of this blog shamelessly from one of his comments....   So it has been three weeks in the new job. There are good things, there are bad things. Let's start with the bad things, because it is by far the smaller list. The main thing is, that however much more money and status this job has, it is considerably less challenging than my last one. While some people might relish the idea of a better paid job that is considerably easier, for me it

Over One Year

Can you believe it?   It’s been over a year since I posted Chapter 6 to Hercules III.   Well, Chapter 7 is coming out soon. It’s out of the laptop and ready to stand on its own. Other than extreme bipolar type 1 issues, the drugs for that have pretty well shot the shit out of my creative being. So, it takes time, a lot of time, but one year is too much.   I can’t make any promises for Chapter 8, except to say it will have a thorough going over before it’s sent out, much the same as Chapter
