Popular Post Mikiesboy Posted June 6 Author Popular Post Posted June 6 (edited) It's cooled off a bit, and the humidity went from 90% to 64% which has helped a lot. It's still super windy so i don't need to vacuum in the bedroom though.. lol. Many dust bunnies died for the cause today. Also, i felt cool enough to make refried beans to have with our nachos. I love refried beans. Could i find an edible avocado at the store, no. So meat, cheese and bean nachos it is. And iced tea. i'm thinking about buying some hair clippers and learning to cut my own hair. i got it very short the other day, but it's a bit pricey...women's is even worse. Even for the same haircut! That's terrible. So, YouTube has some good videos about it. And mostly i wear a baseball cap when out and about, so if I mess it up, i can hide for a bit till it grows back. Oh and dogo, his bed, a hedgehog and his food/treats have arrived. SMy last haircut in Toni and Guy in London 25 years ago was £60 plus tip. Here at Toni and Guy Valencia my last cut was €30. I shudder to think what they charge in London today! 1 5

I've cut my own hair for years and I buzzed hubby and the boys for many years. I still do the husbands but the kids are on their own. (Unless the younger one decides he doesn't want long hair anymore lol). Mine is pretty long right now. I need to trim the back but it's at an awkward length for me to do it myself. So it'll keep growing until I decide to chop it all off. Which I've done before. Our humidity ticked up today. I was inside all day "working". (Yeah, got some writing done and managed 9400 steps pacing while listening to an audiobook). Its pizza for us for dinner as I did not take anything out of the freezer. Enjoy the rest of your weekend y'all! 8
Popular Post Kitt Posted June 6 Popular Post Posted June 6 I can recommend the Whal brand clippers. They have 2 sizes of battery powered, and at least 2 sizes of plug ins. All are durable and do nice clips provided you keep them sharp and don't try and use the tiny ones for a big job. Yes, I know someone who tried to use the tiny AA battery size meant for little jobs like cleaning up whiskers and ears to attempt a full body clip on a draft ( read HUGE) horse. 3 sets of batteries later they quit working, and the dingbat tried to return them for a refund because " they should have lasted more than one day". 1 6 1 1

I bought a heavy duty Whal steel hair clipper over 20 years ago, and still use them today. I doubt they make them as good now as they did then, but they have probably saved me thousands, over the many years. This was a plug in (I hate constantly replacing batteries in anything)! I have had to replace many trimmers over the years, so no such luck with them ☹️ Edited June 7 by Flip-Flop 5 2
Popular Post Mikiesboy Posted June 7 Author Popular Post Posted June 7 Good morning, children! The house smells like butter, apples and cinnamon... someone said i should bake two pans of apple brownies, so since the dog had us up at 8am... i've done just that. Oh, it smells so good. One pan will join some date squares in the freezer. Michael and i will devour the rest. LOL.. So i don't have much to do today. I made breakfast, baked, trimmed the dog's paw pads... he wasn't a fan but maybe now he'll be a bit cooler and have more traction. He's heading toward 14 years of age and has a bit of trouble with his back legs.. can't jump so well. Except when he wants to get on the bed. LOL. Anyway, i'm going to just do a lot of nothing.. maybe look at some writing and do a bit of knitting. See you all later. Have a good day!! 7

Ive added apples to my shopping list. I will be baking either today or tomorrow. There's just too much stuff to do around this house. That's what happens when nobody else wants to step up and help out their 91 year old mother. Some of these issues have been issues for years. Enjoy your apple brownies tim! Have a good day everyone! 7

That is two big apples or 3 medium... i've been using Red Prince, but any good cooking or tasty apple will do. I cut it up into smallish pieces and grate the other. That's me, of course you can put them in how you like them. I've made it with nuts per the recipe but also put in raisins instead. It's good. Do not over bake. My only changes are to use half whole wheat flour and half white, and i use Splenda brown sugar. Enjoy. Edited June 7 by Mikiesboy 5

Warm water, fruit juice, one of my friends soaked them in coffee(which I thought was weird, but to each their own), most types of alcohol, although rum is used most often. You only need to soak them for 15-30 minutes for most recipes but if you use alcohol it should be overnight. Rum raisins are great for fruitcakes. 2 5

Back in the day, people used to soak golden raisins in gin to relieve arthritis pain. I don't know if it's still a thing or not. You'd eat 9 or 10 of the raisins each day, and it allegedly helped with the pain. My mother jumped on that bandwagon, and she swore that it worked. She used to eat them in the morning before her coffee was ready. I just shook my head and told her "when you're having a fruit martini for breakfast, you're not going to feel any pain from your arthritis." You know that angry look you get from your parents when you bust them on their BS? Yep, I got that look on that day. LOL 1 6

Neither of my parents hit alcoholic raisins first thing in the morning, but on Sunday afternoons during Nascar season, my dad would settle on his recliner and I'd get the command "make me a drink." I made a mean whisky sour by the age of 6 LOL. Mom got one too. Later on they graduated to a Black Russian for Dad and a White Russian for mom. I should've been a bar tender. My first job in high school was with Carvel and we would make rum raisin ice cream. It was rum flavored ice cream (fake of course) with raisins that had been soaked in simple syrup. That was some good stuff. 2 4
Popular Post Mikiesboy Posted June 8 Author Popular Post Posted June 8 Happy Monday. It's not the best so far... have a headache from you know where. I will get my shepherd's crook out and see if i can resolve it. Otherwise, drugs it is. I take so many pills, what's one more. On the other hand, today is World Ocean's Day. "The sea, the great unifier, is man's only hope." — Jacques Yves Cousteau To help our oceans, you can cut down on single-use plastics, choose sustainable seafood, and lower your carbon footprint. Making a chopped salad for lunch today...recipe for it is in our Recipe topic. Have a good one. 6

Popular Post kbois Posted June 9 Popular Post Posted June 9 OMFG. Answer me this ... knowing how messed up the US is, especially when it comes to immigration, if you were here on a student visa and it needed to be renewed, and the application to renew had to be mailed by a certain date.....WHY TF WOULD YOU WAIT UNTIL 3PM ON THAT DAY TO COME IN TO YOUR LEASING OFFICE TO HAVE COPIES OF YOUR LEASE NOTARIZED??!!! I am NOT a notary. My manager is, and of course she left early to deal with a pool issue and won't be back until tomorrow. I told the girl point blank "you shouldn't have waited until the last minute." She said they went to their bank and they wouldn't do it. There is no fixing stupidity. Why would anyone risk their legal immigration status in this day and age? Have a nice flight back to your home country. Omg. 1 3 3

Students are often kids, and not too smart and they do not know, what they do not know. I worked a long time with international students and enjoyed the job. I felt sorry for them a lot of the time. They are from elsewhere, where they never had a credit card or bank account. I had a lot of time for them and they were often grateful someone shared information with them. I'd hear stories from them where the bank officer, just filled in forms, gave them the card and the bank account with no other information or advice. A little thoughtfulness would have saved everyone frustration. I don't think this kid was stupid, they just didn't know. If you have lots of students you could give them information.. like if you need documents to be notarized for the government, you need to do it days in advance. I know it's not your company's job to do this, but goodwill makes for happy people and happy people share that experience. Then they rent from you. Just my thoughts. I hope these guys were able to get some help. 3 3

I hope these guys were able to get some help. I hope it worked out for them too. I didn't mean to sound callous, I was just flabbergasted. They did know that they needed to have the documents notarized. They called my manager two weeks ago to ask her how to get them notarized. She told them to bring everything in and she would notarize them. She wasn't a young student either. Definitely grad student with a good grasp on English. It shouldn't astound me when these things happen, but it still does. I used to see this happen all the time when I worked in travel. Every client I spoke to who was booking an international trip I made it a point to tell them....."make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after your travel dates. You can be denied boarding at the airport." It was also in the paperwork we made them sign. Every year, at least one person calling from the airport panicking because they were denied boarding OR calling me asking me how they can get their renewal expedited because they are leaving in a week and just saw that their passport expires in two days. People just don't listen and then expect you to bend over backwards to accommodate them. If I can help someone out, I will. But there are a lot of situations where my hands are tied. I do think that people don't realize that a notary is a legal function. Even if I had access to the notary stamp, I still can't use it. Doing so is fraud and it would render whatever documents that were notarized null and void. I had the impression she thought anyone could just sign her stuff. Anyways, I gave her a few options of where to go for a notary. It was the best I could do. Edited June 9 by kbois 3 3

People are...people. We should stop flattering ourselves by saying how intelligent we are. I have seen too much, dealt with too much. Nothing applies to them, for example, oh don't drink and drive doesn't apply to me, I can hold my booze. Yeah, keep saying that as I search your bloody smashed up body for your ID, so I can go visit your family and explain why you are never coming home again. I'm sure most of us who have ever worked with people, in whatever capacity, can say the same, or similar things. It's too bad your manager was out of the office. Yeah, you don't need to be committing fraud. Sometimes, sorry nope is the only answer we can give. It was good of you to give her some info, that's great service. At some point, most of us learn (usually via the school of hard knocks) that we need to be more on top of things and to not procrastinate. Hopefully, this woman realized her mistakes and doesn't make the same ones in the future. 2 4 1
