    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

    Word Triggers

    By Valkyrie

Certain otherwise-innocuous words can be a trigger for some people.  Maybe it's a negative association with the word - a reminder of past trauma or a social faux pas.  It could be a word that becomes an inside joke - an innocent word given a not-so-innocent meaning.  These words make us cringe and avoid them and not really want to explain our reaction to other people.  For me, a certain spring-blooming flower is a word trigger.  I avoid saying the name of this flower because I have  negative ass

Dating Bi-Curious Men "X"

Relationships, what really defies one? When you meet someone you both decide to form a union between the two of you. It is a commitment that no one else will come between, but when two friends of the same sex create this what does it really mean? While growing up we are brain washed to believe it will have to be between a man and a woman, but what if those men secretly like men? You know the down low or bi-curious men. Can they truly have a relationship with another man? Maybe seeing it as a bro

Seeing the Partial Eclipse

On Monday, August 21st I got to see the solar eclipse. In my area, it was about 77 percent coverage, so just a partial one, but still incredible to watch. I got off work around 1:17, and drove over to the Glasgow County Park on Route 40. There's a little running hill where I went to the top and watched it with about 20 or so people. It was pretty cool- absolutely amazing to watch the sun turn into a little tangerine slice.   Definitely won't forget it, for sure.

Puddles and Friends

Someone gave me the advice “ don’t cross an ocean for someone who wouldn’t cross a puddle for you”.   Today I’ll paddle and you rest. Tomorrow we’ll swap. Together we’ll make down stream. I’ll hold my hand out, the choice is yours if we dance in the rain and splash in the puddles.    Love and life are not about what you get but what you give. Unless it endangers your life, cross puddles. Climb mountains, cross oceans, open doors. Love people. Love unconditionally

Just say no to Extremism

A few days ago President Trump made a statement condemning violence on both sides of the Charlottesville Charlie-Foxtrot.   A lot of people were indignant that he might call out anyone on the left. So... let's compare and contrast:   These sweethearts are Antifa.  they wear masks they throw riots set things on fire carry weapons attack people accomplish nothing positive only create resentment they deny the rights of

MW Part 2? coming soon?

Time to dust this blog thing off.... I haven't written anything since November 2015.   So over the last few months I have come to the decision that moving back to the Maryland area was the wrong decision. While it may help with my career aspirations, I really want to move away.   I pretty much have decided if I stay with Big Red (even though our colors changed the nickname sticks) I will either land up in Colorado or Minnesota. While Minnesota would be preferred I am not ruli

Thankfully

We, as humans, find it easy to find reasons to complain and criticize. It takes more effort to find reasons to be thankful. I’m thankful for all the normal things people talk about like a place to live. Food to eat.    I’m Thankful for all my friends. The past friends, who come back into my life. New friends, who I haven’t met yet. Present friends, who keep me sane. Friends in “real” life, and those I only know through the internet. And I’m thankful for the friends I’ve lost. The ones

Sixty-eight and going strong

Today I am sixty-eight. The highlight of the day my son and I went to our local Mexican-American restaurant where I had four chilled Cuervo Traditional Tequilas and two Corona Light Cervezas, an order of shredded beef Taquitos Rancheros with rice and whole pinto beans, and a Chocolate Mud Pie to celebrate my birthday. I didn’t tell them it was my birthday because I wasn’t interested in wearing the sombrero and having the servers singing “Happy Birthday” in Spanish.   My writing is focu

You don’t see good in yourself, and you don’t have any hope. Your thinking about suicide, you have a plan; you just need a reason not to do it.    But   you’ve come over to me, and said, “HEY! Not Lost, Not Wondering, Just Not Sure Where I Am

Back in March, I got a new job. I was excited and eager to start. However, within the first month, I ended up being transferred to the sister company doing basically the same job. The lateral transfer was not officially executed. There was no paperwork ever signed or submitted or anything like that. The original company I was hired for continued paying my salary. I was given my healthcare benefits through the original company after two and half months.  I was working for a compounding pharmacy.

August is upon us, and this month is the end of a season--most of us are looking forward to a reversal of our local weather (I know I'm desperate for some cooling!) but, meanwhile, we can all enjoy a good story for the featured CSR blog! This month I've chosen Israfil's short story, The Transporters. At just 16.5k, everyone should be able to finish it.    The Transporters by Israfil   Length: 16,565   Description: When two dragons transporting a war criminal dr

LGBT Movie Review: Shared Rooms

Well, it's been a while since I last wrote a movie review and I got the writing bug again, so I felt like reviewing a movie I recently saw.   Shared Rooms is the gay man's answer to a hallmark movie for elderly audiences around Christmas. I know some of you will call me a whimsical fool for picking this movie out of hundreds of more deserving LGBT features from festivals to alternative media web series, but I really enjoyed this movie.   It's a narrative story of disconnected
