Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

His Casual Acquaintance (Revised)

I wrote this story awhile back, but decided to revise it and clean it up a little. Tell me what you guys think!   **** I have this friend, Greg. One day, he talked to me about a curious encounter with someone that still gives him the creeps. When Greg was a young boy in his teens, he went to high school in the South. Greg had this friend Barry. Barry was this really hot guy, so much so that, "The sidewalks just sizzled under his feet." As a popular guy, Barry would throw parties that all kinds

Gay Song Three – Love Betrayed

Gay Song Three – love betrayed   Note: for this series of postings, the term 'Gay Song' refers to music written to/for/by or about Gay men or women. A second category also deals with music identified as Gay because it speaks to the heart of the Gay Experience.   So to make this easier, I will call them Gay in the 1st Degree (to/for/by/about), or Gay in the 2nd Degree (like Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow).   ---   Will Young won the first ever Pop Idol television show in

319 Winesap Lane

My writing therapy program has come to fruition. I finished chapter 1 of 319 Winesap Lane and it came in at over 5,600 words. I suspected all I needed to do was get a good storyline and a couple characters to get this thing going, but it’s been much easier than I thought. Though I have to admit the it didn’t go without a few hesitations. It definitely didn’t help I was trying to get caught up with 18 Weeks of Twoey by skinnydragon. It’s an interesting story and I recommend it to anyone who is in

March C S R Feature: Short Stories By Renee Stevens

Who's enjoying March? Temperatures are warming for the northern hemisphere and cooling for the southern, with a lot of variations depending on where you live. Some people still have heat waves, some still have snow, but change is coming to everyone. This month we're changing it up again by not having just one story featured, but three!   Friends First   Length: 5,712   Description: Keith thought things were going great, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for him, things aren't always as

Filet Mignon And Girl Scout Cookies

'Tis the season, Girl Scout cookies are out and it's time for some serious money exchanging and pigging out on Thin Mints, which have to be the most cost effective cookie in the collection. My son likes Samoas, which are good because chocolate goes well with coconut, but not they're not as good as Thin Mints in my opinion. I'm a chocolate and mint kind of guy. Chocolate mint ice cream, creme de menthe over chocolate ice cream, grasshopper cocktail, grasshopper pie, York Peppermint Patties, Andes

"i Had A Dream I Kidnapped You And Kept You Forever" In Another Medium

Awhile back, I wrote a story about a scary occurrence that happened to my friend Jack. You can read about that here.   Anyway, the story has been read by Unit 522, a YouTuber who specializes in reading creepy stories. He did it in a collaboration with HauntingStories. Check it out here: (the story starts at the 5:24 mark)     I think he did a great job with it. Such a crazy, creepy tale.

Updates On Writing And Some Stuff

0's and 1's is coming back soon!   I have been busy for the last two months between a trip to Vegas and some other stuff at work, but I am back into writing Book 2. Currently I have 2 opening pieces edited and ready, but I want to give myself at least 8 chapters lead time just like Book 1, which worked well.   It will be a scheduled release of 1 chapter a week, with an occasional special like Memorial day or July 4th Independence Day.   As for other projects, I had an interesting thought t

C S R Discussion Day: The Holly And The Ivy By Aditus

Well it's the once in a four year event, Leap Day! For this special day, we have a special story a lot of readers on GA really like! Today we're featuring Aditus' story, The Holly and the Ivy. I hope you enjoyed reading it this month, and you're ready to share your thoughts and questions with Aditus. First, though, I'll share the interview questions I asked him.   If you were an animal, what would you be? I’d like to be a large dog: cuddly, empathic, protective, and a great companion. But I as

Is This The End?

I knew I was jeopardizing my creative abilities by increasing the amount of Depakote I take to stabilize my mental state and, happily, I am now stabilized and do not fear having a misstep leading to a fatal plunge into nothingness. Not being suicidal is much more important than writing.   But, that does little to assure me that there will ever be anything more coming out of the creative vault.   Remembering Tim has two final chapters to publish. I wrote an epilogue to finish the work because

Talia Jane- Entitled Millennial Or A Martyr For Today's Economy?

So, this Yelp employee named Talia Jane complained about her salary on a blog post. Then she got fired. Stefanie Williams, a writer and fellow Millennial with about 5 extra years of life experience, ripped into her with this invective.   To add on to this dogpile, a Gen Xer with 7 years of extra life experience ripped on Stefanie Williams for her own sense of entitlement and jumping to conclusions about someone's life. Pretty In Pink 30Th Anniversary

The classic John Hughes film Pretty in Pink is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month, and I got to see a revival of it on the big screen last week. It's not as good as The Breakfast Club, but the soundtrack just can't be denied. Anyway, some of my favorite tunes from that film:       "Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" by the Smiths   As for my personal thoughts on the movie...it's weird, but I actually feel like I got more out of it when I re-watched it. Dayne Vs Fitbit Or, A Conversation With My Glorified Pedometer

Today was my first day wearing the Fitbit. For some reason, I see myself having this discussion somewhere down the line.   Fitbit: Dude, Dayne. How are you still gaining weight?   Me: I dunno.   Fitbit: I mean, you've been doing so well lately. Been meeting your daily step goals, staying on the right side of your calories in/calories out, and getting plenty of sleep.   Me: Yeah...   Fitbit: ...but you're still a fatass.   Me: **frowns**   Fitbit: Seriously, what the fuck have
