Author Inverview: Myr

The original GA member, Myr, is mostly found behind the scenes (Don't look behind that curtain!) on the site, but he's also an author. As you'll see from his interview, that isn't always easy to do with everything else he has going on. I hope you enjoy this interview, and if you haven't had a chance, go check out his featured story and download the Signature background!   Who do you like best, Jerry or Tom? Jerry, obviously.   Do you eat your fruits and vegetables? Nope and Nope. Still don'

Should be an interesting week

This week I go from doing the job of three people down to two, as I am training the new hire tomorrow.   My Manager is coming to town to be with her new hire but she won't be doing any of the training. I don't think she actually knows how to do my job.   What she doesn't know is that she is walking into the Lions den.   Two manages (one sales and one operations) and an associate director are not happy with her.   She is planning on taking something that belongs to them and is using me to

True Crime: The Houston Mass Murders

David Brooks, an accomplice in the Houston Mass Murders of the early 1970's, is up for parole. A teenager at the time, he and fellow Houston teen Elmer Wayne Henley lured 28 teenage boys to home of Dean Corll, who raped, tortured, and murder them. At the time, it was the largest victim toll for serial killers in history.   I think it's a pretty fascinating case, because it said a lot about class politics and the mindset of the time period- all these kids were just written off as runaways, a

More neko on the way...in January

Okay, so just wanted to let those who want to see the sequel to the Tears of the Neko soon know that I have actually started writing it. I've written the first chapter and I'm in the middle of the second. I think the beginning of stories can be hard to write since you have to set things up. So it's a little slower going than others I've written.   I also just wanted to let people know that the Neko Shorts are not keeping me from writing the sequel. I know it may seem like because I am post

She doesn't get it from me...

Okay, so last night, I discovered that my daughter (13yrs, 8th grade) was supposed to have written the rough draft of a story about a painting. And it was due three days ago. Apparently, it had to be between 1500-4000 words, and my daughter was avoiding the assignment because she didn't want to write. Obviously, she doesn't take after me in that respect... (Ask her to read a 300 page book in one night, no problem, but write more than 50 words--like pulling teeth)   So after discovering on

Birthdays and Luck

It's that time of the year again, yes, I mean my birthday. I don't know about the rest of the world, but as a kid, I use to look forward to my birthday and couldn't wait to get another year older. What the hell was I thinking?   As the Earth makes another pass around the sun, the year continues to turn and the date of my birth arrives again. This year I turned 45. The age really means nothing to me. Okay, so I'm older, but nothing traumatic or anything.   This morning, my usual luck held. I

Don't Pull That

Don’t Pull That   I’ve had a very busy last few weeks. My kid is organizing a Christmas Parade which turned into the Hubby and I doing a large majority of the work. She’s a wonderful kid so we don’t mind helping out, it’s given us some extra family time (considering she’s a teenager and actually still wants us around is amazing in itself), and it has been really fun. We made this massive castle, a train, signs, got tons of candy. I was super excited…for the kids!! LOL   Get down to the

A Year Later and 29th Birthday

It's been a weird couple of days. I turned 29 yesterday, and on November 29th, I commemorated the 1st year anniversary of my close friend Steve's death. Basically, I drove over to where Steve's old dorm where he was an R.A. and I spent a shit ton of time with him, and I got out a small candle and the prayer card that I got from Steve's memorial. It was actually kind of funny- I cried on my way there, but when I actually got to the dorm, I was pretty calm.   I didn't really do much for my bi

Better Than a Kick In The Teeth

You ever have one of those days where everything goes just as it should, but all the little things irritate you? Like the rough edge of a finger nail catching on things or a tiny stone in your shoe you just can't shake loose, something tiny hangs around in your brain and puts a damper on all the stuff that went right, all the things you did well, and everything that made you feel good about what went before.   So here are the broken down bits of my day:   The good thing, the thing must first

Hiatus.

Hello all,   As any of you who follow my stories know I've been very erratic in my posting this last year. This is mainly due to the fact that I have been living with my Grandmother in order to take care of her. I am sorry to say that on Thanksgiving she had a minor fall and her mobility has been set back. Due to her difficulties getting around I've been having to assist her more than usual.   Also due to short staffing at work I've been mandated to work overtime since the last part of Nov

Writing Prompts #376 & #377

Hope everyone has had a great week so far and is looking forward to the weekend. What better way to start it off than with brand new prompts! If you've been feeling stuck, or maybe just want to do something a little different, maybe one of these prompts will jumpstart a new idea. A Change in Direction

My writing has never been what I would call really inspired. It has been fun, cathartic on occasion and sometimes I'll come up with something I'm really proud of.   In the past I've written stories with conspicuous drinking and drug use. As I was in active addiction for a lot of my life, that's my experience, I couldn't write normal kids playing baseball and living in non-dysfunctional families. I wouldn't know where to start.   The feedback that I've gotten from Redemption is one that has
