Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

Why Deny Life Saving Drugs to Children?

http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/10/health/cohen-josh/index.html?hpt=hp_c2   This is one of those really sad cases that on the surface, the evil company is holding drugs from dying kids to use, but on a deeper level, it is an issue with how our economic, social, and regulatory model is structured in a way that makes it a no-win scenario.   If this is a problem, I would also say Americans are not alone in the world:   Here's a recent article from the telegraph:   http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scie

Each month we're doing a week where both the Monday and Wednesday posts are dedicated to whichever story has been chosen as that month's Signature Background. This months choice was "Into The Deep" by Signature Author: CassieQ. If you haven't already done so, you can download your copy of the background here.   To start off Signature Week, Lisa did a wonderful review of "Into The Deep". I hope you enjoy it. Weirdest Dream Ever (or- I'm reading too damn much sci-fi)

Setting: frontier planet Evergreen. It's a Gaia world with rich volcanic soil, long growing seasons, lush jungles with many strange and dangerous animals up to and including dinosaurs.   The law enforcement on Evergreen are called Colonial Rangers. Many have territories many hundreds of kilometers across.   Scores of colonists start to go missing near the vast swamps at the mouth of the long, slow Toulon River that crosses much of the continent. This is of special concern because the city of

Wacky Wednesday: Ask An Author #14

The first Wednesday of the month, you know what that means! It's time for a visit from Dark with the ever popular, Ask an Author! Enjoy!!! Also, don't forget that today is the last day to get your stories sent to the Anthology Editing Team for inclusion in the 2014 Spring Anthology! Ask an Author #14   Welcome back to another quirky question and answer session with your favorite authors!   In AtA #13, we had questions for authors Andrew Q Gordon, Layla, and Nephylim.   In AtA #14,

From my blog - Author Jamie Lynn Miller

I interview a lot of MM Authors on my website. I'm going to try to post those interviews here in case readers on GA would like to learn about new authors that write MM fiction.   Today Jamie Lynn Miller stops by to talk a bit fan fiction, why she writes eBooks and, oh yeah, her her new book, Memory's Prisoner.     Thank you so much for hosting me here today, Andrew, I really appreciate it.   Today I'd like to talk about why I got into writing ebooks, back in 2008. Unlike some opini

Grief and the Messed Up Things It Does to People, Part 2

As an update, Ethan called me tonight. We talked for two hours- he might have been a little drunk, but not anywhere near the way he was the last time we talked.   Mainly, it was remembering our friend Steve. All these random little memories that we kept babbling about, because I think we both feel like we don't want to forget them. We don't want to forget his personality. His voice. His mannerisms. The way he wore this brown Sean John jacket and smelled of Black and Mild cigars. So many memori

This month I thought we'd feature a Promising Author. KC has been on GA for some time, posting stories and taking part in the anthologies and forum fun. Weekly Wrap Up!

It was a busy week this week. Don't forget that your anthology stories need to be to the Anthology Proof Team no later than March 5th! Now, lets get onto the look back at the week in the blog!   On Wednesday, Myr popped into the blog to share another Tech Blog, which has now become a monthly blog feature and will appear on the last Wednesday of every month. This months edition had a few different offerings. He shared some stats, talked about some ongoing projects, and also talked about some st

A Dramatic Monologue

I haven't written a monologue in a really long time (we're talking undergrad, but I thought I'd give it a shot.)   JUSTIN, late 20's, talks about the death of his good friend from college to a grief support group.   So, hi. My name is Justin. I'm here to talk about my friend, Randy. Randy died of a drug overdose three months ago, today. He was 27 and just a couple of weeks short in getting his master's degree in drug counseling. The irony, right?   It's strange. When he first died,

Let the Music Play

I don't believe I've done this before but, Let the Music Play by C James is a book written on the talent level of Tom Clancy, back when he wrote his books.   I highly recommend this book to any who loves a good thriller with gay characters and written in a non-porn way.   Let The Music Play

What were they thinking!

The Arizona state legislature recently passed a bill purportedly to help protect the religious beliefs of business owners. The following column is based on my understanding of that event, and if I've misunderstood or misinterpreted anything about the situation, I welcome any corrective responses, as well as general responses.   The way I understand it the bill is intended to protect, at least in part, businesses who wish to not do business with parties whose views or practices might conflict

New story Concepts and observation about seperate but equal

First, a new concept in my story is the ambiguous morality of need in human existence. One groups needs in order to exist may conflict with anothers group's needs. In modern fiction, we often read about good over evil, when it comes to needs. However, Eastern storytelling usually make the case that needs are essentially ambiguous where good and evil come from perspective.   Remember that as you read my chapter.   Now here is my thoughts to continue on kansas, since Arizona is starting the sa

The Bode Miller Custody Battle And What It Means for Women

I've been reading about this case, and all the strangle twists and turns it's taken, and I'm really fascinated by it. The basic gist is that Bode Miller, in 2012, had a few dates with a woman named Sarah McKenna that he met on a matchmaking service. He got her pregnant. She contends that he initially wanted nothing to do with her or the baby. In the meantime, Bode Miller met and married volleyball player Morgan Beck, in a span of a few months. At seven months, Sarah McKenna left California for N

Hey, can you lend a hand? Do you like to read?

I've been with GA for a few years now. When I first joined I would have killed to have immediately found a good beta and editor. Over time, for most things I found myself settling down and working with the same two or three incredible people over and over again. It was comfortable, and I knew I could rely on their honest opinions of my work.   Flash forward to recently. While there are some damn fine editors working on site the Betas seem to have vanished.   What is a Beta? Glad you asked.

The Dream

I heard a terrible noise. I didn't know what it was. In the distance a farm tractor moved slowly across a field, a man walking alongside.  Everything was so vivid, the sky a brilliant blue - too blue - and the hedgerows and trees impossibly green.   Looking back at the tractor I could see it had changed direction, lurching across the field towards a gap in the boundary hedge, the walking man now clinging to the tractor as if for his life.  Strange; both he and the driver seemed to
