    2025 Anthology - Creature Feature - Guidelines

    By Valkyrie

I'm super excited about this year's theme!  There are so many possibilities.... Do I go with a cute fluffy kitty?  Or maybe a fire-breathing dragon?  Or an army of Norse penguins fighting Canadian otters?   It's a good thing there's a lot of time before the deadline, although with my prowess at procrastinating, I probably won't start till the week it's due   The guidelines for this year's anthology are posted below.  So now that we know the theme and the parameters... start writing!

My Nightmares

It's 4:30am again and I haven't slept. I've got to be up in 3 hours and I'm screwed.   There's danger in writing about old times. Sometimes you wake up old demons that you wished you had left alone.   I'm going to warn you that if you go past the spoiler you're going to read something shitty. It's one of my nightmares that comes back from time to time to torment me. I try to keep it in a little box and never take it out but sometimes it escapes and it haunts me to this very day.

Writing Tip: Constructive Criticism - Part I

Many authors welcome criticism, providing it is constructive, but... What is constructive criticism? The definition can vary from person to person, so rather than just one author giving their definition, I thought it would be a good idea to get multiple perspectives. I put the question out to all authors site wide and got eleven great responses. With so many great responses, I've decided to do a part 1 and a part 2. Here's part 1, enjoy!   So there's the first 6, next week you'll get th

The Long Dark Silence

It is my understanding that my readers generally consider themselves pretty lucky - because they get 'fed' new stories and chapters on a regular and normally rather speedy basis. With yesterday marking the end of Redemption's A Bitch, and tomorrow being the end of the short five chapter Six Billion Credit Rent Boy, a bit of a wait now ensues.   I am writing. The end of Tiger Winter is in sight, and it is massive now, standing around 120K, and into my NaNoWriMo word count I have also managed t

Are they kidding me?

My refrigerator has a reasonably small freezer drawer. I am a fairly old fashioned cook who likes to purchase and preserve foods in season so I went out back in 1982 and bought a chest freezer that served me well for 30 years. When it finally passed on it didn't owe me a penny and I replaced it with a new model.   That new freezer worked well until about a week after the warranty ran out. That is when the fun began.   I understand that the warranty having run out means I need to pay for all

Premium Tuesday: Displacement

For those who are new to the GA News Blog, Tuesday's are the day when I share a little information about one of our Premium Stories. While Gay Authors is free to it's members, it's not free to run. One of the ways GA keeps the site running is by the help from members who purchase a Premium Subscription. What do you get when you purchase a Premium Subscription? You get access to the select few stories that are not available to the regular membership. One such story is "Displacement" by dkstories.

Gay Novels?

What makes a novel "gay"?   A Rainbow binding? Tiny feather Boas? Magic twinkie dust? Leather on the HARD back?   What percent of gay sex, campyness, kitchy slang, innuendo or gossip does it take?   I have a strange idea that no novels are gay. They may have gay content, they may have sex, they may even have gay characters but the novel itself isn't gay.   It should stand alone on its own merits. Like a person, a novel should have its own character, integrity and ideals. It should define

Figuring out the Happily Ever After

New story for winter anthology.   Sneaky Peek: ___________     It’s funny how life can change in an instant. One event can change everything that follows.   That moment arrived for Randy Austin Taylor, affectionately known as “Rat” by his many friends at Denton Academy, on a sunny Tuesday afternoon during his fifth period Geometry class on May 16, 1978.   He was summoned to the office by one of the girls who worked there. His anxiety was heightened by the way she spoke quietly to his t

This dawn I let me sleep my full

This dawn I let me sleep my full And found a dream reward – A place within the living day Where recall too can breathe.   Two boys came together once more And though I've not seen them For many years, still to my eye They had not changed at all.   One hand into the other slipped And off they went to be Sequestered safe within their love As if no time had passed.   How wonderful to dream like this And present meld with past – That wakes and carries what I've seen Diffuse in me a

Street Pastor Commissioning.

Halloween night (11/31/14) I was commissioned as a Hastings Street and Prayer Pastor.   The service was at Holy Trinity Church as was attended by over a hundred people. 12 street pastors and 6 prayer pastors were commissioned and after the service went out on their first official duties.   I was the first person to be commissioned for both in the same night, this did confuse martin who was calling out the names as I had already been presented with my street pastors cap and when he called m

Dumb NFL Fans

So tonight was my second and final night of Halloween weekend. I danced up a storm at Kildare's, and then walked around for a bit on Main Street.   I was walking down the street, in my cowboy outfit, when a group of guys started hassling me about dressing up as a cowboy. The reason?   They thought I was a Cowboys fan, because I was dressed like a cowboy. Like, seriously, what the fuck? I know there's drunk logic, but seriously, what the fuck?   I kind of backed away, telling them I'm just
