Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 15 - Sept. 21)

    By wildone

First thing first, I really need anyone who is thinking to enter our yearly Anthology, please see Val's Thursday blog and if you fingers haven't started typing, get them going! As you read this, I am indisposed. Read into that what you want . But I'm up by a lake in the mountains looking at the colours change for fall.  So next week in the northern hemisphere, we flip into fall, autumn, whatever you like to call it. Down under the equator, they are about to hit spring   What is y

Writing, Musing, and Valentine's Day

Alright, no one jinx me, but I've been a bit busy. Yes, my muse found me and has kicked me right in the ass. Last year I could barely get the anthologies out. This year, for whatever reason, I've been finishing one project and jumping right into another.   At the moment Last Christmas is at its mid point. People seem to be reading and enjoying it. For me that is time to do the happy dance. I'm glad when people take an interest and comment. Lets me know where I did right or where I went off the

Favor please?

Hello there! I was hoping some of the wonderful people who fell in love with Ice Fairy could help me out.   So far my story (available for sale) has no reviews   I'm not asking anyone to buy it; but to just give me your review on it that I can add to at least one site...   Thank you!

Scotland nearer to independence

It seems increasingly likely Scotland will vote for independence in September and become a separate nation state. Most people in England and Wales don't seem too bothered at the moment. Maybe that will change between now and September's ballot. Not that it will make any difference because only Scottish residents get to vote   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   A lot of people have asked why is Scotland being given this ballot, including on this site. Well, if you believe in democracy then you must also

Why I'm Not Patriotic

I'm proud to be Canadian, but I'm currently not proud to be a Canadian, at least not domestically. Why? Well:   Federal Government   1. There's the ongoing Senate scandal. Senators on suspension are having criminal charges placed against them for, effectively, stealing tax payer money. Many things have happened as a result of this:   a. The NDP want to abolish the Senate completely. They feel as if it's a complete waste of time and energy. The Senate is so muddled by party politics that no

New Year, New Look, New Things

Time is a precious commodity, you never seem to have enough. Vacations seem too short, work takes up too much time. We all long for that mythical 'someday' - you know that day when we won't have anything but free time to do all the things we want but can't squeeze into our schedule. I know I've been waiting for many years and I'm not totally sure it will ever come.   The last couple years I realized my dream to become published. It's both thrilling and exciting as well as something of a let

Yet another (narcissistic?) update

HI There. I've had quite a busy few weeks, and since you haven't been around for it (Where have you BEEN?), I thought I'd update you here.   Last time we spoke, i think I was looking at completing a major client software upgrade, and so I will start of from there. The awesome thing about this particular client is that their offices are back in my home region, which means I get to see my family. The terrible thing about this client is.... well, everything else.   Everything that could have

I Felt Guilty For Having A Future Because My Friend Doesn't

Today, I spent time putting in job applications...a whole revamp of my CV and resume and cover letters...it's the first time in awhile I put in so many applications and the like. It felt nice.   And then...something strange hit me. I felt inexplicably sad for some reason. Part of it had to be that I had just gotten through helping my mom do home loan modification papers, and that's kind of iffy and unpleasant.   But the other thing...probably the main thing...it made me think about the fact

Everyday GA

First of all, thanx to all that gave me noms for the awards. Blew me away. So sweet.   I was blown away when I read an entry from a member that had been a victim of a scam. She wasn't sure if she should have posted it here, but several came to her aid. Once again, kudos GA. You assist your members, regardless and give them priceless tips. It amazes me.   I haven't blogged lately because my life has been total chaos, but it will even out. I'm confident of that.   So much has happened here t

A challenge and a half

As many know I love to cook, and I love watching Masterchef.   I enjoy Masterchef Australia, and am looking forward to Masterchef South Africa starting next week.   One thing I've always wanted to do is create one of the amazing desserts seen on Masterchef Australia. So God help me, I'm going to be attempting one of the most intricate desserts I've ever seen - Peter Gilmore's Snow Egg (see pic below).   I’ve eaten the Snow Egg at Peter Gilmore’s Quay restaurant in Sydney before, so at lea

Great trip

Got back last night - very tired but also with a ton of great memories.   I didn't bring my nice camera on this trip and looking back, I'm glad. A lot of things were first time experiences, and I was able to use my iPhone to capture a few, without feeling obligated to lug the bigger camera around and seeing too much through the camera lens rather than in person.   We made a late start of Friday but it helped avoid traffic so - meh. We ate in Sacramento before heading down and got into San

Second Chances

We don't always get second chances nor do we always take advantage of the first one. I guess that is the theme of my 28 year on this planet. You see I don't belive in New Years Resolutions. Why let some random date dicate when you make changes in your life. (Sure we should be doing that everyday) So I chose one viatal to me, my birthday. I have made a list of things I don't want to waste any more not time doing....well for the most part, a few are just to oblige me to do things I should but don'

Oh Christmas card, oh Christmas card, I got you in February.

Well, some people on here know I enjoy mail. Not junk mail or bills, God knows everyone gets enough of that stuff, but actual mail. You know cards and postcards. Well, to be honest, I am sort of a one man army to keep the post office open and in business.   I have friends from all over the world. When I send cards they go from Connecticut to Texas, from England to South Africa, and from Germany to India.   Now let me say this, there are post offices that work and some that don't. I mail thi

calliope

If I have faith in but one thing, It's that I might be loved by the stars, And that hope might struggle to sing, Knowing in me, I know all her bars.   So like a grand calliope, The ethereal steam leaks out, And thus muses music that be Gaily festive, or sadly devout -   Yet, cold are the strokes of the stars, That strain-by-strain mete out the blows To sear inner worlds with tough scars, Or sing tuneful hope before she goes.

I swear...

I swear very rarely and rather poorly…or comically…when I do. I was reminded of this last night. My partner and I went out for pizza, and I was spouting off about the number of hours I’ve put in at the office this week and about my expectation that next week won’t be much better. I dropped a swear word somewhere in my rant which I only noticed because Reed’s eyes momentarily widened as he listened to me.   “I’m sorry work is so rough on you right now.” His comment was softly spoken and sort of

A Short Hiatus!

So, good news and bad news. Bad news is that I'm going to need a short break to be able to write, and good news is that I plan to write SO much while I am away. I wanted to at least address the people who follow my stories and wanting to know what the hold up was. The reason behind my short hiatus is mainly due to the fact of so little material that is written. I want to be able to write as much as I can without feeling like there is a deadline. I like to take my time to write and not feel rushe

Children and adults

I've just been re-reading Second Wind, by Mickey S, about a guy, Joey, who has a very young child, Connor, and a new boyfriend, Ben, who he's only known a few months: "Although I teased Ben about his ulterior motives about getting a crib for Connor, I was thrilled with the idea. I wanted some 'alone time' with Ben in his bedroom as much as he did. But I was even more pleased about what his thought meant. I had heard single parents complain about the problems of dating when you have kids. It w
