Horrific that this is just accepted as part of life. It's normal for children to be shot to death. That says it all. 11 hours ago, Wayne Gray said: It infuriates me. That this country is so paralyzed by bowing to the orange king. By "the right to bear arms." That it'd give up the right to life by those too young to even know why they're being murdered. We have the right to bear arms. Make it reasonable. Make it make sense. I grew up around guns. I had one at twelve years old. But I was taught to respect it. To take great care where it pointed, and that it was a tremendous responsibility resting in my hands. But I'd give it up. If it meant Sandy Hook never happened. I'd give it up. Totally agree with you both. I ran across something years ago that was posted on Twitter (refuse to call it X) and it was like a gut punch. Dated over 10 years ago, it is both profound and prescient. I've read that the US has more guns than people. We have a gun problem. Edited August 30, 2025 by spyke 7 1

If it doesn't affect them, it's not a problem. That's how they see things. A CEO of a rapacious corporation getting gunned down on the street DID get their attention, though. If that's what it takes? Well ... then that's what it takes. 2 2 1

It inspired a great deal of fear in evil, wealthy men. But you're right. Not enough. It was a warning from a populace that's stretched tight as a drum. When you have average people celebrating an assassination, and the terrifying deaths of five uber-wealthy people in a terribly designed submarine, you know things are about to bubble over. A reckoning is coming. And it will not treat the wealthy kindly. And you know? It's what they deserve. 3 2 1

You can't just drop this very old saying in here without saying a bit more, A. The world is very much different now. Are you saying Jefferson would have thought killing kids was okay by him? Or that this saying justifies armed resistance? Or that activism and sacrifice is necessary to keep to keep liberty alive and well? Edited August 30, 2025 by MichaelS36 2 1

The world is very much different now. Are you saying Jefferson would have thought killing kids was okay by him? Or that this saying justifies armed resistance? Or that activism and sacrifice is necessary to keep to keep liberty alive and well? In Jefferson's time, the kids would have been armed too, so no, it's not about killing kids. Different eras had different cultural norms. For instance, during the 1800s, there's a story out of the Midwest about how it was kids who drew their own weapons that stopped assailants from killing their schoolteacher at a frontier school. IIRC, this is used by some as one of the first documented school shootings in the US. Activism and sacrifice are what I would go for, up to and including armed resistance. Peaceful first, until you can no longer be peaceful. The last time that happened in the USA was in August 1946 with the Battle of Athens, TN. WWII vets took on corrupt police and the political machine that was running the city and county, and they won. I'm by far a non-violent person, and while I have my own views on gun ownership, kids being killed is never acceptable to me. Edited August 31, 2025 by Brayon 3
Brayon Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Case in point, I have one unpublished story (Freedom Station), that tim and BackwoodsBoy have helped in editing. I changed the dates and locations in one chapter; all because I came to realize that for a kidnapping to happen, it would have involved a school. That got changed pretty damn quickly, because it made my skin crawl thinking about it. 2 2

Site Administrator wildone Posted August 31, 2025 Site Administrator Posted August 31, 2025 Good Morning Everyone I just wanted to remind everyone that there is NO discussion allowed anywhere on the site regarding politics, political influenced topics, politicians by name or by other reference, besides in the Pitt and you're own personal blogs. I can see how being in a club so to speak, the urge to bring things up naturally day to day topic can happen. Just need everyone to realize by the sites terms of service, political content is not allowed. Unfortunately going forward, anything deemed political or controversial that should be moved to the Pitt and personal blogs will have to be addressed on a one on one basis. The Drop In Centre has been here for years!!! This is just a reminder to keep it non political. Although I may agree with many of the comments, and disagree with many as well, to keep site harmony, we do need to each watch out for this. Thanks everyone for your ongoing and future cooperation. Brayon Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 I feel the voices talking to me again, and it started with this movie quote: “This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi: trust in the Force. Do not return to the temple; that time has passed and our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged- our trust, our faith, our friendships, but we must persevere, and in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you, always." The Force is strong with this idea. 2 2

Failing grade for Jedi 101... Oh wells It's the warning that Obi-Wan Kenobi puts out at the end of SW:III Revenge of the Sith. After the Anikan turned to the Darkside, the Jedi Temple was destroyed, and all surviving Jedis were scattered. The story is plotting out to where it can fit in one of three Eras. Old Republic, Rebelian Era, or Legacy from SW:Legends. In both Legends and Canon, more than Obi-Wan and Yoda survived. So, I think it would be a nice to tell of a survivor. But, Old Republic is rich with it's own lore, and of course no Skywalkers. Legacy era is SW:Legends now, but it's set in the distant future. Seems the galaxy never fully recovered after Palpatine. Steve Hi, I totally accept the above comments but the use of a colour font seems, at least to me, as something I instinctively don’t like. Although I am severely colour blind so the font might be green or purple for all I know. I would be interested in knowing why it was used, though…. 3

I spent most of the weekend at my Grandma's. She is 92 years old. I always make sure to bring her large print Harlequin novels and we played Skip-Bo. Also had a cookout for one of my cousins who is about to be deployed to Djibouti for a year. I love my family but I'm also extremely happy to be home with just me and the cats today. 2 6
