Popular Post Cane23 Posted January 1 Popular Post Posted January 1 Happy New Year, dear friends! I’m just watching, as is tradition with my family, the Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert on TV from the Musikverein. The conductor is Canadian - Yannick Nézet-Séguin, an openly gay conductor leading this historic event. Thinking that not so long ago women were not even allowed to be members of this orchestra, it’s a reminder that not everything in this world is moving backwards. 6 1

Popular Post Mikiesboy Posted January 5 Author Popular Post Posted January 5 i hope everyone is doing well ... just watched a YT video about research from the Mayo Clinic saying people who use their hands to knit, crochet, make nets, build or model things, lower their risk of cognitive decline 30 to 50%. My own experience is that it helps with mental health too. i think i will start on a campaign of knitting 'little' scarves for people. i wear one in when i feel cold in the house. Here's a picture of one you can buy for $50 ... really? I need to sell stuff, that is simple to make. This one is a wool, nylon and acrylic blend. That's not terribly expensive to buy and that one is simple garter stitch so, very basic and simple to do. Anyway, hope everyone is doing okay. 7

Have you seen Tom Daley the uk diver who took up knitting as a way to chill during competitions and is now doing well as a second career? Tomorrow our dearest friend with stage 4 pancreatic cancer is cooking lunch for a load of friends for the feast day of The Three Kings as they call it here, Epiphany elsewhere. She is truly my inspiration. gx meanwhile, I’m busy on volume 2 of my story about love in Franco’s Spain, it’s taking over my life! 7

In case it's the first option, it really is $50. A skein of yarn which would make 2 of those is $12. I wouldn't buy one for that price, either. I made one for myself from silk wool blend, and it wasn't $50. Maybe i should sell some. lol Edited January 6 by Mikiesboy 1 3

Popular Post Cane23 Posted January 6 Popular Post Posted January 6 Today marks Christmas Eve according to the old Julian calendar, which is still followed by our Orthodox Church. It's a day of fasting, so fish is traditionally served at the table. In the afternoon, we take a branch from an oak tree and burn it on a stake in the churchyard. As the sparks fly, people share blessings like, 'More sparks, more sheep,' 'More sparks, more coins,' or 'More sparks, more happiness.' Tomorrow, on Christmas Day, the table must feature pork and a special bread with a coin baked inside. The person who finds the coin is believed to be blessed with good luck in the coming year. Instead of saying "Merry Christmas," we greet each other with, 'Christ is born.' Wishing everyone a joyful holiday (as celebrated by the Julian calendar). 😘🎄 7

Years ago a friend of mine was expecting her first baby after years of trying with no success. I told her that it would be great if he turned out to be a Christmas baby. She giggled and said "absolutely not!" Anyways, he was born on Jan 7th and when I next saw her I congratulated her and said "well you got a Christmas baby." She said, "you better go back to school and learn how to read a calendar, Christmas was last month." I just started laughing and said "Old Christmas." The look on her face was priceless! 7
