Back to the Beginning

Well, I've had it.   I tried being a hostler. Honest, I tried, but 58 year old bodies cannot pretend they're only 35, which is bad.   I tried delivering groceries, but that was just as physical, plus the joys of pulling doubles through a city, which is bad.   So, starting Thursday I'm back to long haul; or, as they call it in my new company, line haul, which is good.   Up and down the I-5 corridor, which is kinda good.   Supposedly, I'll be home every week, which is good. Back in the groove of things

Wow, what a last couple of weeks. (stops and catches breath) I guess I just wasn't as ready for school as I thought I was, and it was pretty hard to get caught up. So last night I did what I've wanted to do metaphorically in a literal way. I ran. And Ran. And kept right on running. It was pouring rain out. I went anyway. Lightning striking all over the place. Rewrites, rewrites, rewrites

And more rewrites.   I'm not dead, but you'd never know it from the postings, would you? When Real Life hasn't been getting in the way, I've been beating up the draft of Busted, trying to get it in shape to shop around for publication.   It's been a !@$! pain in the ass getting it ready, too.   I thought the worst part about this would be throwing out scenes. I've already tossed 30K words, the last third of the book. Not that it isn't bad; some of the stuff I tossed I really, really like.

Okay, this was my last night as hostler on the Perishible Dock. That was a given.   Part of my job, the first part, has to be accomplished by 19:00 every night because that is when the Grocery Dock shuts down, is to move the combination trailers, those that have perishible and grocery, from the perishible dock to the grocery dock. New Story Update!

Well ... some good news ...   Chapter 1 of the new story is ready to go (it's called "When I See You Again" -- same title as a previous effort I made, but totally different story, characters, etc. ... What'd you learn in school today?

Finally, I Get to Use Them in a Story

I finished the short story I will probably submit for the Fall Anthology. Worked on it all night. Actually, I went a bit beyond all night, but I felt I needed to finish it so I could submit it. Nearly Two Years Later...

So it's a bit silly to be posting this particular blog entry right now, but I was sitting here wondering just how long it's been since I first got a blog here. Turns out it's been nearly two years! My first entry was on November 17th 2005! Since then I've posted 117 entries (counting this one), which comes out to about one per week, but which of course in practice is more like 2 or 3 one week, then 2 or 3 the next month (if that many in some months).   It seems that I posted the most entrie
