    2025 Anthology - Creature Feature - Guidelines

    By Valkyrie

I'm super excited about this year's theme!  There are so many possibilities.... Do I go with a cute fluffy kitty?  Or maybe a fire-breathing dragon?  Or an army of Norse penguins fighting Canadian otters?   It's a good thing there's a lot of time before the deadline, although with my prowess at procrastinating, I probably won't start till the week it's due   The guidelines for this year's anthology are posted below.  So now that we know the theme and the parameters... start writing!

Fragments

Good stories never end. They just begin a new chapter. Fragments were our destiny. Our fate doomed the first time I saw you smile. Your eyes were filled with the moist heat of the mid summer mango grove's shady effervescent infrangible delight. Your movements took shape in the delicate prowess of a mountain leopard. Your form undulating to the beats that broke down the unyielding barrier of disaffection. And your gentle grace that stoked the hopes of an arid wanderer. But it wasn't to last forev

Update

A lot has been going on and it's been a while since I've been as active as I was before. Listing down the changes in my life seems easier than having to write it down in paragraphs.   1. Just finishing my 1st year degree program in uni. Had 2 papers to resit by the end of the semester, but I nailed it.   2. Finally signed up for a license at the DMV near uni, convenient since the goal is to drive to and from school. ( I should've done this ages ago but money was tight back then.)

Grannies And Australian Penguins

Weird combo right, but the old ladies did save a group of Australian penguins.   How did they do it?   Why they knit little sweaters for those penguins after an oil spill   http://parade.com/217117/ashleighschmitz/how-knitting-sweaters-can-help-save-penguins-lives/   Thought I'd share funny, cute, and interesting factoid

August Signature Excerpt: Reece's Choice By Renee Stevens

Monday we featured Renee Steven's story, Reece's Choice, with a few of her favorite reviews. There's also a signature graphic you can download if you want to share your love of her story. Didn't see it? Don't worry you can still get it here.   Renee says... I chose this scene because it's honestly my favorite scene in the entire story. I've actually had the spider thing happen to me, except I didn't have anyone else there at the time. I love putting some of my personal experiences into stories

On Being 67

Yesterday was my sixty-seventh birthday. I got a free B-52 at the Ixtapa in Sultan; plus, I had two shots of Oban single malt Scotch. As birthdays go, it was tolerable.   For all that happened yesterday, I’m bored with life; due to changes in my meds I’ve gained over 30 lbs. in the past year; my cataracts are worsening to the point where I get a new prescription every six months; I've got skin cancer on my ear; I can’t drive more than a couple miles to the grocery store and definitely not out

Current Writing Projects

I wanted to give an update to let everyone know what writing projects I have in the works. Chapter 19 of "The Hollow Hills" is almost complete and will be sent to my team soon. I hope to have it posted within the next couple of weeks. I am very appreciative of all the support I've received for this story. I know my posting speed is excruciatingly slow, but it's very important to me that I focus on producing the best story possible vs. cranking out chapters quickly and not being happy with th

Returning Sunshine

You kept telling me how I took up all the space in our relationship. How you needed to get away To get a way around the things in your head... Blasphemy. I believe I was still in your head. And stuck in the chambers of your heart, Your entrails shackling me to the walls of inferiority.   Understanding your grudging affection Took up most of my daylight, yet you kept Asking for more... more space in your head. More air to breath, you sought out the nearest Island of wasted youth. More experienc

Fun Story Nothing Serious Feel Free To Continue

As I doze out of bed still unaware of the time. I take a look at my alarm only to discover that it is 7:45 AM. "Shit" I said to myself. Swiftly change my pj to my student uniform. No time to shower I thought. Dashing down the stair like a wild stallion try to step up my pace with a bread in my mouth ( ) . I turn the doorknob and open the door only to discover that today is not a normal day .........

Why Do I Write What I Do?

A month or so ago (time is elastic when you age) someone in chat asked me why I write the subjects I do, especially with respect to teen characters. At the time I gave a standard answer which more or less boiled down to when I was in school I didn't get to have those kinds of relationships and now I can experience them.   While that is true, it may not be the whole thing so I've been thinking about that question. My mother asked me that, or something similar once, because I had so many coming

I Feel . . .

The ellipses fits my frame of mind right now. It's as if my mind can't complete any of its thoughts properly. I'm constantly locked in this never-ending battle with my wayward brain. It's complicated, and it's starting to screw with me in ways I never thought would happen to me.   I can't write like this. At least, I can't write novels. I can probably still do a short story, possibly even a novella, but novels? It just isn't happening. I sit down, maybe get through a chapter, and then the thou
