It took him a while, after his brother's death, to get to the point those internal fears fell away enough to become manageable for him. He was forced to examine all his fears and what they cost him. I loved writing this chapter and finally showing us this Coy... the one he is meant to be. Early on, I decided I was going to keep the location fictional. I did research and poured through lots of territorial maps, but I didn't want to make a mistake, so I took the safer route. Great chapter Mark. Even though his isn't getting a ship any time soon, Calvert seems to have landed at a safe spot for now. It would be great if Carmella and Sofia turned out to be lovers, and Granger could work out a very nice arrangement with them so he does have a beard. By the description of her carriage she may be tight on money. Being a successful opera singer is one thing, but making enough to support her, Sophia, a maid and two footmen and all their expenses has got to be pretty expensive. Carmella being associated with George could really boost her star power and status. I bet George would make sure she could travel in style in a plush carriage too. Sophia might be good as a beard for Cavendish or maybe Calvert if the Royal Princesses tires of him. Hey Granger could fall into a pile of shit and still come up smelling like apple pie. The initial description of the party at Chateau Heyward had me reminiscing of the parties at Jay Gatsby's, even though it appeared to bear little resemblance to the ultra-extravagance at Gatsby's. Unlike the euphemistic and kind descriptions of the less attractive humans who populate your stories @Robert Hugill, your description of Chateau Heyward pulled no punches. "Seen for real, and up close, the house was as hideous as I’d expected, the neo-classical gestures all seeming to clamour for attention individually rather than hanging together. And its huge size didn’t help. It evidently had all the extras a modern house needed, indoor swimming pool, gym, cinema, the lot." I had a great laugh reading this, the nouveau riche are invariably "guilty" of tasteless ostentatiousness and signor Heyward apparently possesses it in spades. And it appears he may be a size queen too. I got the impression that signor Heyward's actions are carefully planned to maximise benefit for himself. The analogy of a Bond villain as commented by @Carybr a very good one. One of Vaughan's statements filled me with trepidation when I read it. He may not have meant it literally, but I bristled when I read "But no, he was not wearing it to the party, we’d found him a suitably colourful shirt and I’d allowed him to pair it with chinos in the make that he liked". The statement of a pompous and superior know-it-all to a less sophisticated charlatan. I certainly hope not.

I assumed Billy was deliberately pressing Crusty's buttons and I believe Diego, Steve and particularly Bryan and Caleb are probably better off not knowing why. It is clearly a strategy, one which if known may influence Bryan and Caleb's responses when they are cross-examined by Billy. I also still think Charlie uncovered something unsavoury about Crusty, something which may not be illegal, but could be very embarrassing for Crusty if it were to become public knowledge. Bryan's admission of depression is not surprising. I just hope it does not become known to Clarke as I am certain he will use it against Diego, he will try to level blame at Diego for this to have him stripped of his custody of Bryan and Caleb. I am also very concerned about Caleb's mental health. I vaguely recall expressing this concern in comments on an earlier chapter. He is very timid, easily frightened and easily manipulated as we have witnessed on a number of occasions. We have already witnessed Calvin and the human smoking fleshlight's reaction to this timidity in a recent chapter. If Calvin is successful in his bid to have has parental rights reinstated I believe the lives of both boys could be in danger, even if only by their own hands. And we learned Diego likes bears as well as daddies. Steve's dating profile read, 6 foot 8 Sasquatch.

I didn't expect the Chalmers letter to be dealt with so quickly and with the finality of a grave for Chalmers' career. Being made equerry is a blessing and double curse for Calvert; reputation saved, but separated from the sea and Granger. Will this opera singer become George's new beard?

Good News--A great solution developed through Royal action. Calvert and Granger are rehabilatated by the King and possibly the Queen. St Vincent gave the King the letter. The King was aghast at the charges and destroyed the letter. The sodomite issue is ended. Calvert is made an equerry to the King with likely duties attending to the Princesses--especally Amelia The man making the charges has destroyed his naval career and will likely remain in the West Indies. Perhaps, George's grandfather might keep an eye on him and note if he makes any trouble. Peace is near. The navy will be reduced and captains and men will be sent ashore. George and Calvert must not expect a command for a while. Granger and Calvert maybe spending time in London in different locations and might be able to meet if they are careful. Cavendish has shown up at court and talked with George. He could take any confidential messages or private letters from George Meanwhile George has arranged by paying a great amount for a famous opera singer to present on his ship in order to give a performance for the King when he arrives on the ship. George knows the King loves opera music. The King should be surprised and very pleased.Let us hope the efforts goes forward without problems. George would be pleased if the opera singer becomes interested in George in a romantic way--at some pont after she visits the ship. This would help him since he has no close female friends.
