Here Kitty, Kitty - 9. Chapter 4.2
“We go,” Fran stated, jerking Kitryn from his half doze.
He sat up straight and felt Simon doing the same. “What’s wrong, Fran?”
“We go, now!” she repeated and seemed to be getting frustrated. “Bad come soon.”
“Bad?” Simon asked. “Bad what? Weather? Person?” When Fran looked ready to cry Simon pulled her to him. “Shhh, little one. I’m not questioning what you're saying. I’m asking because if it is bad weather, moving would be a bad idea. We could get stuck out on the mountain. But, if it’s bad people we need more information to know where to go.”
Fran frowned and then nodded. “Bad man coming up mountain there.” She pointed off to the left of the cave entrance. “We go.”
Kitryn stood and moved quickly to the back of the cave to gather their clothes and pack. Simon followed picking up things as he went.
“Only take what you can carry,” Kitryn instructed and continued to pack his and the kits bag.
“This won’t be the first time I’ve had to move in a hurry. I did have a life before I was turned, remember. How do you think that vamp found me alone on the road in the first place?”
Kitryn paused in his packing. “Why were you alone on the road?”
“I’ll tell you once we’re on the road. We need to find alternative shelter within the next few hours or you’ll be carrying me and my pack, as well as your pack. Plus, you’ll need to keep me out of the sunlight.”
“Shit, I hadn’t thought of that.” Kitryn returned to packing and within a short period of time, they were ushering the shifted kits along the forest path.
Kitryn hurried as fast as he could, leaving Simon to use his vamp speed to keep up. They’d been moving for at least half an hour when a rumbling shook the mountain.
“Huddle in,” Kitryn yelled.
They all hugged the wall of the mountain and clung to each other as rocks cascaded down around them.
When the noise finally stopped and the kits all shifted in a rush.
“What happened?” Peter asked.
“Noisy Kitty,” Nelson cried.
“Bad man make cave go boom,” Fran stated causing everyone to swing their attention to her.
Kitryn picked up Nelson, while Simon grabbed Peter and Fran.
“What do you mean, sweetheart?” Simon asked Fran as he tried to pull clothes for the kits from the pack on Kitryn’s back.
“Cave go boom. Bad man done it.”
Kitryn puzzled out the statements. “You’re saying the bad man that was coming to the cave made it blow up somehow?”
Fran nodded and allowed Simon to pull a t-shirt over her head.
“Do you know who he was after?” Simon asked out of the blue.
Fran frowned and Kitryn used the time to pull a top on Nelson. It was far too cold for the kits to be naked in human form.
“Bad man want vamps dead. He want us dead too.” Frans face screwed up as though she couldn’t put together what she wanted to say.
Kitryn thought fast. “The bad man wanted to hurt Simon?”
“No, hurt all vamps and shifters.”
“A hunter?” Kitryn breathed. How had a hunter found them all in that cave? Hunters hunted all paranormals. They needed help. Fast.
Kitryn finished helping Nelson dress and shifted the pack to a more comfortable position on his back. “We need to move and find shelter. Then we can make a plan.”
They began moving again, both Simon and Kitryn deep in thought.
